36 Equipment problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/07/2024

Recently, on multiple occasions, have not been able to move console shift handle into park position to remove ignition key. This results in vehicle remaining in accessories mode. I can turn radio off, but driving lights as well as any accessory remain powered on. Searched NHTSA for any recalls and found nothing related to my 2022 Chevrolet Colorado.

The traction control light and stability turn on then the power steering turns off then the vehicle starts running oddly and wasting gas the seats went down on their own the rear view camera turned off multiple problems.

38 Equipment problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/06/2024

After making a right turn, when you bring the steering wheel back it will turn on the left turn signal for 3+ flashes instead of just canceling out the right turn. So after most right turns, the left blinker will come on when straightening back out. This is a bigger safety issue than gm is leading on. I have had two "close calls" because of it. People will pull out on frontage roads because they think I am immediately making a left turn after a right turn. This issue is tracked all the way back to early 2023. There are forums all over and I would guess there are thousands of people dealing with this issue now. All I have seen is a bulletin issued by gm but none of the fixes actually fix the problem.

39 Equipment problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The power steering will suddenly go out while a “stabilitrak” warning comes up on the display. There are many reports of this problem documented online in this year and model, and the 2015 had a recall for this known issue that was evidently not resolved or recalled for the 2016 model. Suddenly losing power steering when traveling at highway speed or making a turn is a tremendous crash risk as it is very difficult to turn the wheel and the responsiveness and ability to turn quickly is greatly diminished. I and my wife have both almost crashed when this has happened. Most of the time turning the vehicle off and then on again will reset and reactivate power steering, other times it does not. I have called two chevy dealerships who acknowledged an awareness of this problem, but difficult to replicate the problem on demand, and not always the same repair but almost always related to the steering rack and cable bundle. As I understand it, replacing the entire rack is about a $2000+ repair that based on anecdotal information online seems to resolve the problem. I am shocked chevy/GMC is willing to assume this liability and not issue a recall or at least offer some kind of reimbursement option for doing the right thing and getting the repair done rather than place others at risk on the roads. This problem has been going on and off for the past year.

40 Equipment problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

Steering column cover was rattling and felt coming apart. When right side turn signal was activated and the turn was completed, automatically left side turn signal was activated. Both of the above concerns were addressed by the gm Chevrolet authorized dealer on 8/26/2024. Again the turn signal started malfunctioning as stated above, and the vehicle is now at the same gm authorized dealer for service with additional ac compressor failure. Date: 5/28/2025.

41 Equipment problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

Key stays stuck in the ignition and won't let shut the truck off.

42 Equipment problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

When driving my steering freezes up and I don’t have control over my vehicle. I get a stability track alert. I have to shut my vehicle off and restart it in order to regain control.

44 Equipment problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/03/2024

2021 Chevrolet Colorado shifter would not work properly when put into park it would not allow me to turn the key all the way to the left and therefore would not allow me to remove the key. So my truck is only 3 years old, I keep up with preventative maintenance and this should not have happened. It just cost me $518. 97 to get repaired. My husband and a friend both have Chevrolet (malibu and blazer) and both also have shift problems. Seems to me that Chevrolet has issues with their shifts.

45 Equipment problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 03/17/2024

If you review the Chevrolet Colorado for the last number of years, one will find that there is an issue with the key not removing when turning the vehicle off. I am experiencing this problem with a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado. In some of the previous years the issue was referenced to a issue where the shifter needed repaired or replaced. My point is that it has been an ongoing problems for years which the NHTSA should demand that gm fix it without cost to the consumer. In my case, as a result of not being able to get the key out, it caused the battery to drain. It could easily leave someone stranded.

46 Equipment problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

The key is getting stuck in the ignition switch. I researched online and it appears to be a common defect with many of the chevy trucks. This is a big safety concern.

47 Equipment problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/20/2024

Ignition switch/steering/transmission??? when I went to start my truck the key would not turn. I tried to jiggle the steering wheel but it was locked up tight. I checked to make sure that it was fully in park and it was. As a last resort I kicked the front tire as the wheel was turned slightly. I tried again to jiggle wheel and turn key, after several attempts key finally turned and started. I moved truck forward straightening wheels then shut truck off and went inside to gather my things to run errands. When I came back out the ignition once again locked up on me. After numerous attempts I was finally able to get the key to engage. When I ran my errands I left the keys in the ignition and in the accessory position instead of fully shutting the engine off. This is my safety concern 1) my battery could run down leaving me stranded, 2) my truck could be stolen 3) I could have removed the keys and taken the chance that I may or may not have gotten the key to engage again, potentially leaving me stranded with groceries, etc. Dealership cannot get me in for more than a week from now, 9 days actually. It will be a Friday. . . Who knows if they will even get it repaired in one day.

48 Equipment problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/19/2024

Gm had sent a letter regarding recall on 2020 chevy Colorado's cam shaft in 2/2024. In 11/2023, I had my check engine light on and had the cam shaft issue fixed by my mechanic, before it was a known recall. By law, gm should pay me for the work done on the truck, but gm for the last 2 months have been, what I feel, playing with me and have not paid me. I have sent the required paperwork several times, been on the phone to confirm receipt of the paperwork, and how it looks; each time the customer service representative told me it looks great. Now, for the 3rd time, I had gotten email saying "we never received your paperwork". This is not right for a car manufacture to treat their customers this way and illegally not pay for their recalls.

49 Equipment problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/02/2024

I live in a hands free phone state while driving. My vehicle constantly looses contact between my phone and the vehicle.

50 Equipment problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 12/19/2023

After completing a right turn with a right turn signal, the vehicle will sometimes signal a left turn for 3 blinks. I believe this is because the turn signal stalk 'bounces' down to the left turn signal area when returning back to normal position from a right turn. ? ? this is a safety issue because the vehicle is signaling a left turn when no turn is intended. This could cause confusion to other drivers on the road. ? I have taken it to my dealer who attempted 3 times to fix with no success. It's a common issue that gm has not addressed for a long time now.

51 Equipment problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/29/2023

The check engine light came on because the coolant fan runs for a while after vehicle is shut off. This ended up being due to a thermostat failure. I did have this repaired in novemver 2023 but what is interesting is that one of my sisters, who also owns a chevy captiva had this same thing repaired earlier in 2023 and now my other sister who owns a chevy equinox has this same issue now, 2/5/24, and will look into having it repaired. Is this just a coincidence or is this a defective problem that the manufacturers should address?.

52 Equipment problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

The power steering and stabilitrak went out while I was driving on the freeway, again!.

53 Equipment problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

The truck has only 40k miles on it. I was checking under the hood when without notice the heed dropped hitting me in the head and pinning my hand under the hood thus trapping me there. A rescuer released the hood release lever so I could escape. I had a lump on my head and my hand was /wrist was bruised. I am on blood thinners so I consider myself lucky. The stanchions that hold the hood open suddenly failed and will not hold the hood open.

54 Equipment problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/06/2023

The beginning of November my driver side door would not open. There was no warning, and nothing happened to cause this. I took it to the dealership. For $161. 00 they told me I would need $980. 00 worth for parts, which I had to pay upfront, so they would order them. Needless to say there is only one mechanic that is able to do this repair, so I’m still waiting. My appointment is on January 31. I feel this has been a big hazard, do to no fault of my own. I’m just grateful that at 57 I can climb through to still use the truck.

55 Equipment problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/04/2023

At the beginning of November I was out shopping, when I returned to my vehicle, the driver side door would not open. Luckily I was fit enough to crawl through from the passenger side. I promptly called the chevy dealership for an inspection/ repair. I feel this was an emergency situation. I didn’t even want to think about what would happen if I were in a vehicle accident, and couldn’t get out, or, no one could get in. I was able to get an appointment at the dealership for November 16, 2023. My chevy is always parked in covered garage, there was no warning sign of anything going wrong. They checked it at my appointment, but because they couldn’t open it, they decided to order all the assembly parts, which I had to pay for ahead of time. My next appointment for the repair wasn’t set till January 31, 2024. I never knew how important a functional door would be. Very inconvenient, and dangerous.

56 Equipment problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/27/2023

Once again the power steering and the stabilitrak went out while I was driving on the dang freeway!.

57 Equipment problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/10/2023

I was sitting at a traffic light stopped when all of a sudden the truck tried to accelerate, I stood on the brakes to get it to stop then all of a sudden it was like I was giving it gas again and I hit the car in front of me again but harder the second time.

58 Equipment problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

The backup camera on the vehicle continually gets moisture in it resulting in a very blurry image on the display to the point of the backup camera being unusable at times, especially when it is dark. This creates a safety risk and an increased risk of hitting a moving vehicle or pedestrian when backing up as the vehicle is a pickup truck and has a very large blind spot behind it. We have run over toys in the driveway due to not being able to see them, fortunately no one has been injured as of the time of this writing. I have contacted cheverolet extensively about the issue since July 2020 and they have been of no assistance. They acknowledged the issue and merely extended my warranty to 2025. A local dealership has replaced the camera a number of times and the issue remains unresolved; it has been replaced by the dealership nine times since 09/30/2020. The issue was first observed in July 2020 and the vehicle was purchased new from cheverolet in may 2020. The vehicle does not go off-road, is parked in a garage, and replacing the camera has not corrected it. The vehicle was dropped off at the local dealership for approximately one week in may 2023 and the dealer reported that they were unable to replicate the issue. I subsequently reached out to the local dealership again in July and August with photos and videos showing the moisture on the inside of the camera lens and have yet to receive a response.

59 Equipment problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/23/2023

Battery dies repeatedly after multiple service visits and replacements.

60 Equipment problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/22/2023

While the vehicle is in motion, and listening to xm radio, every commercial that comes on generates a banner flag across the speedometer screen. This is very distracting. It tends to draw the drivers’ eye from the road to the screen. Only problems with the vehicles operation should warrant such an action. This is an unnessasary action being that the radio screen displays the same information 10” away, out of the direct eye line of the driver, not to mention that I can hear the said commercial, I don’t need a visual que of the fact flashed on the speedometer. I was told there was a setting to turn off the “rds”, which I was told was on page 114 of the owner’s manual ( not included in the vehicle), available for download to my phone. Problem: I don’t carry a cell phone. I had to pay $65 plus shipping to obtain one, after paying over $40k for the vehicle. The instructions sent me many screens deep on the center screen, only to find the setting only on the fm band and not on the xm band, which I listen to primarily. Fm band is limited where I live and the issue wasn’t a nusense until I had to go down to ann arbor and getting caught in exit traffic on us23 in a construction zone going back home. It became a major distraction. I though it was illegal to have any motion that is in the sight of the driver while the vehicle is in motion. I am exhausted of calling gm and being connected to someone halfway around the world, that I can’t understand (with a shakey connection) to only be transferred to someone back here in michigan who doesn’t really help. I want this turned off before I have to return to the u of m cancer center on Jan. 7, 2024, and I feel I have done all I can with gm.

61 Equipment problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/17/2023

When I put the truck in park it goes into park fine. I can turn the engine off but I can't remove the key because the ignition switch won't go all the way forward. The lights stay on and also the radio. I had to repeatedly start and stop the truck and move the gear shift selector to remove key. I had the same problem in February 2022. The dealer fixed it by replacing gear shift selector while under warranty. The problem was remedied. Said this was happening and there was a TSB about this problem. This problem was never consistent. Now in Aug. 2023 I am having the same problem. The truck is no longer under warranty and the dealer says that I must pay to have it diagnosed and fixed. Chevrolet is aware they have this problem with several different models and don't want to acknowledge it and take responsibility. There are several class action lawsuits filed about this. This is a safety issue because I just can't leave the truck with the key in the ignition. I looked online and have seen that Chevrolet has this problem with several models of different years. They should find a solution and have a recall to address this problem. The dealer also told me my truck was actually worth less if I were to trade it in because of this problem. Should have said something in 2019 as they knew about this problem since at least 2016. They fix the problem by replacing faulty parts with the same faulty parts.

62 Equipment problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/12/2023

2020 Chevrolet Colorado: purchased truck in February 2023 w/25000 miles. Since purchasing truck, key would get stuck in ignition. Key gets stuck in ignition frequently and would take several minutes to release, very frustrating. Was told I was not pushing key in to release. After several months and repeated key release issues, I called dealership and was told problem was due to shifter assembly(connection issue). Appointment made(August 12,2023) and issue confirmed and replacement of shifter assembly done. Was told the Chevrolet Colorado has issues with this problem. Gm/Chevrolet should warrant this consistent issue. Out of pocket $471. 00. . . Mileage at time of replacement 39,859. . . .

63 Equipment problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/03/2023

I am having issues with my key getting stuck in my 2022 Colorado. It will turn enough for the engine to shut off but will go all the way back to where the key will release. This is well known issue will many forums documenting this on multiple chevy vehicles of different makes and models. The safety concerns are if this happens somewhere unsafe to remain parked or to remain with your vehicle. You cannot leave the vehicle unattended and while you can start it, you are stuck with the vehicle until the gas runs out or you have someone come fix/tow you. If you are for example camping or in an unsafe area you cannot leave or lock your vehichle. If you don't have cell service, gas. Or money you could be in a real bind. Chevy is definitely aware of this issue and has not issued a recall. This is despite previous recalls and scandal over ignition failure problems.

65 Equipment problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

I recently purchased a certified 2019 chevy Colorado z71 on June 26, 2023 from healey Chevrolet in poughkeepsie n. Y. While test driving the vehicle I brought to the attention of the sales person that there was a vibration in front left wheel at which time the dealer rotated tires and realigned the vehicle, shortly after picking the vehicle up while driving home the vibration started again and progressively got worse the more I drove as well as the steering becoming very stiff and took effort to turn wheel. I contacted dealer took vehicle back at which time the salesperson test drove it and agreed there was a problem the dealer then replaced the rack and realigned shortly after picking vehicle up while driving the problem started again and got worse the further I drove now vehicle has a mild vibration in front left when driving between 40-50 mph contacted dealer spoke to service manager who stated he wasnt aware of any vibration I explained it was coming back on Monday July 17, 2023 for paint touch up to please see whats going on, later same day took truck to go to store while driving the steering again became very tight as I was turning into parking lot power steering went out almost causing me to hit another car contacted dealer vehicle towed to dealer. Was contacted by ray from service who told me no codes were found and could not duplicate issue said tech drove it and found no vibration he asked for permission to drive home to check it I explained to him I have 2010 silverado 1500 with 200,000 miles that I plow with that steers better than this I also explained my brother owns exact truck same year every except his more miles and steers perfect, I also mentioned that a friend that is a gm tech said theres tsbs on these trucks for this issue he stated he had no knowledge of such which is strange since I clearly see them online. I am afraid to drive it. Something isnt right. I love truck otherwise just want it fixed.

66 Equipment problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/07/2023

We purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado December 2022. Beginning in January 2023 to current month July 2023 the vehicle has been at the dealership 4 times for the same occurrence: service stabilitrak and engine power is reduced a warning “ding” sounds (the same noise as seatbelt, door ajar, etc) simultaneously with the messages “service stabilitrak” and “engine power is reduced” the vehicle immediately is jerking or lurching, the engine no longer runs smoothly and is misfiring. The engine power reduced does not allow safe acceleration, and the vehicle is unstable (as it moves it feels like driving over a thousand speed bumps over and over), the engine misfiring is heard from the exhaust and the vehicle is visibly vibrating, on acceleration the maximum speed is 20 mph. All 4 times this has happened while driving the vehicle on highways in traffic. We are left unable to get out of the way of moving traffic, unable to accelerate, change lanes or make turns safely. Three of the four times we had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The last time the vehicle did this fortunately I was near our local dealership and drove it less than a mile so the service people could “witness” what I had been trying to explain what’s been happening with this vehicle. This is a very serious issue! my husband is 75 and very ill. I have to drive him 100+ miles for treatments on a regular basis. We cannot continue to be put in danger because of this vehicle default. We need this problem fixed not only for ourselves but for the safety of others, including unsuspecting drivers and innocent passengers, young, elderly, disabled, some simply misunderstanding our vehicles “failures to perform” in traffic on the roads. A trusted vehicle is very important. A stabile vehicle with sufficient engine power is a must if we are going to put it on the roads. “service stabilitrak” and “engine power is reduced” is not new. General motors needs to take action to correct this problem and educate dealers.

67 Equipment problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/04/2023

The power steering keeps failing and this is dangerous once the vehicle is in motion. The most recent incident was July 4th 2023. We have taken the truck to lawley Chevrolet sierra vista az (mando flores-service advisor)several times within the last year and they claim they can't find anything wrong. We can't drive it until the steering is properly fixed. It's impossible to drive. We have to constantly pull over and turn off vehicle for the electrical system to reset . Then we drive for about 1/8 miles then the issue starts all over again. Once the power steer light comes on to include the stabilitrak warning lights then the vehicle is almost impossible to steer. My wife drives the truck most of the time and it's very dangerous and it's not easy for her to steer this vehicle once the power steering goes out. I'm disabled and not able to drive the vehicle in case the power steering goes out. Please thoroughly investigate this vulnerability & issue a recall to fix this issue.

68 Equipment problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/29/2023

69 Equipment problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/24/2023

The first day of driving a brand new, 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, my turn signal shifter started to fail. When I move my turn signal left down (left turn position) then back to the neutral position, the left turn signal stays active. The turn signal shifters also binds and gets stuck in the neutral position and will not allow me to move the turn signal shifter upwards (right turn position). To fix this, I have to move the turn signal shifter back to the left turn position to get the shifter unstuck then it will allow me to move the turn signal shifter back upwards to the right turn position. I have been on the highway and unable to use my right turn signal to change lanes which is extremely dangerous. I am worried that it will cause an accident or that I will get a ticket for not using my turn signal. I have a video of the issue occuring, but the video is 25 mb. The issue occurs every time I drive but not 100% of the time when I try to use the right turn signal. When the issue does occur, it's always due to shifting the turn signal shifter into the left turn position and becomes mechanically stuck in the neutral position.
