2 Automatic Transmission Park/neutral Start Switch problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 03/08/2002

The vehicle was parked, the transmission was in park, before the car could be shut off. The car took off spinning the rear wheels, jumped over a concrete parking stop and over a small hedge into a tree, when the car hit the tree the car continued to spin the rear tires (while in park) until the key was shut off. The air bags did not inflate, the car has extensive damage, the computer showed to service vehicle soon when started, previous day the vehicle was filled with gas and the guage went crazy and the dash lights blinked off and on while beeing driven on the freeway. The vehilce has been recalled for the steering locking twice, once by mail, once the steering did lock up and had to be towed into the dealership for 72hrs of repair, sounds like a lie, but this really happened, I am afraid the car has a malfunction in the computer and it will kill someone if fixed and driven again. Ref. In ea02-031.
