Service vehicle active handling system warning is on in vehicle. After reading online that the brakes can activate on their own without brake lights I no longer feel safe driving the car. A case number hase been generated with gm customer service.

When turning at slow speeds, the active suspension will either activate or force a dic message "service active handling system. " sometimes, this occurs simultaneously with abs activation of the brakes. This has caused me to drive into head- on lanes, or forced me to stop in moving traffic without brake lights. It seems worse in cold or wet weather. Restarting the car will reset the display.
My 2005 Chevrolet Corvette is having the same issues listed in campaign 10v172000 on 04/26/2010. Yet when I enter my VIN number it says no recalls. The "service active handling system" message appears with loss of the feature and loss of brakes lights. The brakes lights come on spontaneously while driving and turn off when the brakes are actually applied. Obviously a dangerous situation. 02.

My brake lights stay on without my foot on the brake. When I put my foot on the brake the brake lights go off.
Causes the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'park' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
The hazard switch is faulty. All of the wiring for the brake and turn signals goes through the hazard switch. Every Corvette forum details the faulty hazard switch. Because of the poor quality of the part, and the poor design of the electrical system, if the hazard switch malfunctions, there are no brake lights, and/or no turn signals or hazard lights. There is no indication that the switch is malfunctioning until another motorist notifies you verbally or by crashing into you, or perhaps if law enforcement pulls you over for it.

I am having the exact same issues as described in NHTSA campaign number: 14v251000. Brake lights are staying on when not depressing the brake pedal.
I and other Corvette owners are having the same issue as the most recent recall of other gm models. My brake lights will constantly be on. The active handling warning light will continue to show on dash and cruise control will disengaged and reengage on its own. The fix seems to be replacing the body control module. I have replaced the brake sensor and that did not fix the issue. After reading blogs I located other Corvette owners experiencing the same issues as I. . Read more...

Brake issue: brakes would stay on until pressed. Cruise control would also not function while the brake lights were engaged. Pressing the brakes would cause the brake lights to turn off. Taking foot off brakes would cause brake lights to turn on. Repaired by Chevrolet for $450. Electrical: starter has been replaced 11 times by firestone & Chevrolet. Starter repeatedly stops working after 6 months of use (using original oem parts installed at full price by Chevrolet).
Service active handling light came on the dash and brakes lights were stuck on and after a while they stopped turning on, which almost caused a truck to crash into my car on the highway, the braking system still worked however the lights are erratic, which also caused the car to be stuck in park every time I turn it on now.
My 2008 Chevrolet Corvette just started a new issue that your dept is currently investigating. The "service active handling" came up on the display and the front right brake locked up for a few seconds at highway speed. After pulling over, a concerned driver behind me said that my brake lights had been and still are illuminated the whole time she was behind me (at least 5 miles) and do not go off until I turn the car off. I bought this car the end of March at mall Chevrolet in cherry hill NJ, and my primary local Chevrolet dealer is reedman-toll in langhorne PA. There is nothing listed in the carfax or autocheck history for any recall work done or even any open recalls. This is obviously a quite common issue with serious safety repercussions. . Read more...
This is a recurring but intermittent problem with the exact same symptoms as described for non-corvette gm models in NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 "the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'park' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features. " I have noticed that the problem often initiates when driving over a bump, suggesting an intermittent open or short wiring issue. Then later things will return to normal for days or weeks. Chevy dealer first recalibrated the "brake pedal position sensor" then later replaced and recalibrated it; both non-warranty repairs. The problem continues with the next recommended action to replace the bcm at $700+ cost.
Steering jerked, brakes appied for a second, cruse control turned off, no brake lights, and service active handling message appeared. Happend more than once.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette. While driving 45 mph, the service brake light illuminated periodically on the instrument panel. A mechanic stated that the brake pressure modulator valve had a short, which caused the brake control modulator to fail. The current and failure mileages were 55,200.
