Chevrolet Corvette owners have reported 10 problems related to brake sensor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Corvette based on all problems reported for the Corvette.
My Corvette as well as many others from 97-04 suffer from the active handling abs/traction control system going bad. The part is known as the ebcm. When it goes bad (if cruise is engaged) the car will disable cruise control suddenly causing car to slow down. Also, when the system fails while moving it cause cause uneven brake feeling and you loose the abs and traction control systems . Gm has discontinued the parts required to repair this and this issue has been major safety concerns for many years now affecting many 97-04 Corvettes. Also a part of this system is the steeling wheel position sensor which is also discontinued. Swps can send wrong info to the other computers and the car will make erroneous 'corrections' that can lead to brakes being applied at any moment while driving.

The ebcm traction control module , abs control modules and the steering wheel position sensor for the c5 Corvettes made from 1997 thru 2000 are no longer manufactured by general motors or licensed to an after market manufacturer for production as an after market replacement. When these modules go bad there is a risk for accidents or death while driving as the abs system that works in conjunction with these modules will lock up one or more of the brakes causing the driver to swerve into other lanes. This happened to me when my steering wheel position sensor failed. We Corvette owners are forced to drive with the traction control off because we cannot find new replacement ebcm modules, abs modules of steering wheel position sensors . Our only recourse is to buy a used unit from a totaled 1997 thru 2000 Corvette at high prices and the are also defective at times according to Corvette fprum members. General motors continues to license after market manufacturers to make replacement ebcm modules, afbs modules and steering wheel position sensors for Corvettes manufactured in 2001 thru 2004 so why can't the license an after market auto part manufacturer to make these sensors for 1997 thru 2000 Corvettes? can the us government force gm to make these parts for the 1997 thru 2000 Corvette due to fact that these parts are vital for the 1997 thru 2000 Corvette to be safe on the road??.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. While driving low speeds, the brakes felt as if they applied automatically. The service anti-lock brakes, service active handling, and service traction control warning indicators illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the rear passenger hub assembly sensor was defective and the entire assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

On this day, I was driving on the highway going about 100 mph (german autobahn) when the vehicle for no apparent reason decided to lock up the brakes. I also lost power steering. Luckily there were no cars around me. The "service active handling" sensor has been on and off since then and I am looking at getting it looked at tomorrow. I have just read forums of other 2005-2008 Corvettes having this similar problem. Is there anything I can do about getting this car serviced? I am in germany and I have yet to find a Corvette mechanic. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Service active handlibg system light came on after having new brakes installed. Had the brake pedal sensor replaced. After about 1 month the light started coming back on and shifter started locking up in park. After 1 month had shifter assyembly replaced, started to lock up again, they replaced shifter assembly saying it was a bad part. After about another month the shifter started locking up again. Going to have them check the braking sensor again as they forgot to check the other day forgeting they replaced it. I am 60, going to radiation appointments and this is very unacceptable for the calliber of a Corvette. This needs to be a recall.
While making a left hand turn from a stopped position the right front brakes started to pulse and grab not allowing me to accelerate more than a crawl. Warning light on dash traction control / active handling illuminates. I was able to limp out of the intersection and come to a stop in a parking lot. With the steering wheel and wheels straight, I again tried to accelerate but the brakes still grabbed. I put the car in park and tried turning off the traction control and active handling by pressing the button on the center arm rest area. Still showing the same message and still not driving correctly. I then shut off the car and restarted. Back to normal driving. Two days later while turning left again, but this time while going 10 mph, I felt the brakes again start to pulse and grab but it corrected itself without me having to restart the car. I do have power telescoping wheel that does retract every time I exit the car. I brought it in to van chevy today but they found no codes and did say the clip that was installed as part of a recall was still in place. Other than replacing the steering wheel position sensor they do not know what to do or what is wrong. I have had many gm cars before but this issue really scares me.
My warning lights came on indicating check anti-lock brakes and traction control. After a visit to a chevy dealer, I was told that the sensor controlling these items was bad and gm no longer produced the part. After searching the internet without success for the part, I was told by one part supplier that he had 15 people on a waiting list for the part and no idea when he would have one. In the meantime, I am driving a vehicle without anti-locks and without traction control, safety options I paid for that are now inoperable. Should an accident occur as a result of these failings, would gm accept responsibility??.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, he noticed that the service handling system and brake warning indicators illuminated continuously. In addition, the brakes engaged independently for several seconds. The failure recurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The brake sensor switch was replaced three times. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
