Chevrolet Corvette owners have reported 4 problems related to trunk wiring (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Corvette based on all problems reported for the Corvette.
An instance occurred where the battery leaked acid down past the battery tray and onto the wiring harnesses below. Subsequent corrosion of wirings within the harness (of which contain approximately forty individual wires), causing breaks and shorts in several creating a hazardous situation. A no start condition occurred resulting from the affected wires leading to the ecm as well as others contained in the harness. Either the battery tray should be modified to contain or route possible acid from leaking down past it or the fabrication of a liquid tight compartment be installed to contain the wiring harness itself. Since the harness is no longer available from gm the Chevrolet service technician spliced in numerous lengths of new wires to bypass the affected areas within the harness. Labor cost of approximately $3000 for the repair. There is currently no solution to prevent future occurrences of this issue. Thus making the vehicle unsafe to drive or house in proximity to people and their property.

Following a high performance driver education event, my 2007 Corvette caught fire while traveling at low speed (approximately 10 mph) on a 2-lane county road, with the fire originating in the area surrounding the passenger rear (right rear) wheel well. As soon as I was aware of the fire, I stopped the car, shut down the engine, and observed the fire on the top of the transmission and gearbox from the rear of the car. I obtained a fire extinguisher and attempted to extinguish the fire by deploying the contents beneath the car on the area of visible flame. I was unable to extinguish the fire under the first attempt and I began to remove the rear carpeting from the vehicle in the rear hatch and trunk area as the carpet had began to smolder. A second fire extinguisher was brought to the scene and the fire was put out. The fire had consumed a 2" x 6" section of the hatch (trunk) floor, which had melted onto the rear exhaust pipe. After the car was towed home and put up on jack stands, it appears that the charcoal canister and sections of the emissions system were consumed in the fire. It is inconclusive in my observation if these components were causal to the fire or merely consumed in the flames. Much of the rear wiring surrounding the differential and transmission has been destroyed by the fire. There are also visible remnants of liquid "drips" on the right rear exhaust pipe travelling over the rear differential but no conclusive source of the liquid was found. I would like to ensure that this failure was not systemic to the vehicle design or manufacturer so that other owners may be protected from similar failures.

(1) windshield mounted rear-view mirror shakes/vibrates badly at idle and on highway, especially with convertible top down, making following vehicles appear blurry. Dealer replaced mirror once, second dealer retightened to windshield, but problem remains. (2) drive belts make growling sound at idle, a/c on, when shifting between park & reverse, or between reverse & drive. Belt & tensioner replaced per existing service advisory, but problem still occurs. (3) rear mounted cd changer does not function if vehicle is started soon after inserting cd cartridge; "err" displayed on radio. Once "err" is displayed, must remove and reinsert cd cartridge to make work again (restarting vehicle or turning radio off/on doesn't help). Voltage at cd changer drops down to about 10v when starting vehicle. Dealers clueless. (4) electric fuel pump behind driver seat makes annoying buzzing sound when vehicle stopped, at idle, esp. Noticeable with windows up. Dealer says noise is normal and existing service advisories only apply to '97 & '98 vehicles.
