Shortly after purchasing car, the car started and lights started flashing by itself more than 10 minutes after exiting the car. Then heat stopped working in 0 degree weather. While driving notification said "ac off due to hight engine temp". While driving car shut down and wouldn't start saying "service stabili track" took to mechanic and they said I need a new water pump and head gasket. Mind you heat stopped working as well again. They confirmed there was no antifreeze because its leaking. Now thank goodness I was just getting home, could barely get into the driveway because now I'm getting a notification "service power steering". From everything I've read there have been recalls due to all of these issues but my VIN isn't listed. I still owe almost 5000. 00 on this crappy car and I'm completely over it. . . Worst car ever.
Engine coolant stench and loss of coolant since day one! I now have just over 45,600 miles and per the dealer a need a temp sensor housing and thermostat. While driving I got a message on the dash reading "ac off due to high engine temp" and the coolant temp read - - - and the needle on the temp gauge dropped to low from a prior midway point and coolant temp of 218 degrees. Back in 2014 I suddenly had black smoke coming from tailpipe and the "dealer replaced the water pump assembly with new base and thermostat. " I also had a "service stabilitrac" notice and sudden loss of power while driving back in 2015 and the dealer said they couldn't duplicate the issue but that I needed a new coil pack which I had to pay for and repair on my own even though car was still under warranty!! this vehicle has smelled like antifreeze since the day I bought it, brand new, from the dealer that was performing all the services. In addition, the back window leaked from day one and I had 2" of standing water in my trunk and I had to pay, out of my own pocket!!, to replace the rear window = twice!!! this car is a piece of junk and has been nothing but problems and the dealer has forced me to do repairs that should have been covered by the warranty. I am sick and tired of the stench of antifreeze and the fact that I now have to repair the thermostat housing and thermostat due to engine overheating!!!.
When starting my car, my windshield wipers start going along with windshield wiper fluid coming out, my four ways start blinking, and my trunk opens up and will not shut. I have not touched anything that would cause any of this to happen. This has happened multiple times and it puts me in a huge inconvenience. I was driving today and it's 14 degrees outside, yet my car started to overheat and a warning came up on my dash saying something about the a/c being shut off due to overheating. . . . Why would I be using my a/c at all?.
Engine does not maintain engine temperature and consequently does not have consistent heat. It will go from 170 degrees to 100 in less than 3 blocks. This will cause the windows to frost over and limit visibility. It has become unsafe to drive in the winter. It has been in for repairs about 8 times in two years with no success. I also contacted Chevrolet customer care. They told me not to turn the heater fan in past level 2 until the engine reaches operating temperature. The problem is that it rarely does or holds it very long. This winter in mn has ranged all the way to -20. Regardless of temperature it does the same thing. My research indicates this has been an issue with the Cruze at least since 2011.
I just want to start off by saying we purchased this car brand new from kocourek Chevrolet in wausau, WI. Dec 2012 or Jan 2013 bumper fell off within 3 months of purchase while driving. Yes, fell off. The dealership where we purchased the car hesitantly replaced it as the clips were broke off. Dec 2012 trunk button does not work properly - has been replaced multiple times (by kocourek). And not it has recently once it opens, it will not close despite being slammed shut 8 to 10 times. Oct 2012 had an antifreeze leak from day one - dealership tells us they can't find anything even when pointed out. I go though a gallon of dexos antifreeze every 2 weeks. But as the dealership says, that's fine and normal. . . . Um. . . Not to me!!!! Jan 2018 - the car stalls out constantly - reduced engine power, while driving on the highway, in the city or even just parked in the driveway. I have been very nearly rear ended multiple times because of this. We have yet to find the source of this. Jan 2018 codes for throttle position sensor issues even though it has been replaced multiple times. Still can't find the source of this. Dec 2018 after being started, the car will shut itself off or die off. Still cant find the source. Aug 2018 recently, the car has dash warnings that state "ac off due to high engine temp" even when it is 30 degrees out. The temp gauge will also drop to cold. We have also changed the thermostat multiple times as well. This car is beyond a lemon. We have had issues with this car from day 1. And what is more ridiculous is that the dealership will not stand behind it. I have service records documenting the complaints of the issues and the dealership "not finding anything wrong" or "unable to duplicate issues". We have given up with chevy and also with kocourek Chevrolet in wausau. These issues have been ongoing since we purchased the car September 2012.
I don't believe the current resolution to gm's recall on the chevy Cruze concerning the engine splash pan is adequate as it only addresses safety and not customer satisfaction. As this part directly affects the fuel mileage as advertised as well as the degradation of underwood parts due to water encroachment, I don't believe butchering the existing pan is fair to the consumer. At the least, the redesigned pan on the 2013 and any or all updates made to the 2013 model regarding this safety issue are what should have been completed. I am not satisfied with the current solution in that I no longer have what I paid for due to said recall and its poor solution.
