Check engine light came on throwing 4 codes. Took it to the dealership can't determine the problem with vehicle. Dealership did contact us to inform us the water pump is leaking bad. Charge to fix 835. 00. I have seen several recalls regarding waterpumps however my VIN does not show a recall.
I have a 2012 chevy Cruze 1. 4 turbo engine the issue is over heating . . This issue is reoccurring. . I was driving for approximately 10 to 20 minutes when the indicator on the dash reads that the car is to hot yo drive and will shut down left me stranded on the road side. I take it to chevy dealer to learn there has been a thermostat problem I get the issue repaird it runs ok for a while then again same problem (over heated) one again. Take again to chevy dealer they tell me it's the water pump. I have the water pump repaired. All is ok for a short while. Again the same issue I call chevy dealer again to bring my car back for the 4th time. They schedule my appt. To look at my car one again and on my way to the dealer car over heats turns its self off and will not start back after cooling down. Finally I get the car to the deal to learn that it blew the head gasket and now because it' over headed so many times I now need an engine!!! there has been extend warranty on all of the cooling parts of the engine and this issue should also be covered however the dealer will not fix the caused problem from the faulty parts !!!!!! ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 3 - VIN corrected, error in one position (assuming check digit is correct); 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.
Since November 2016 at 56,000 miles the car has been constantly overheating. The engine coolant flange, water pump, and thermostat have been replaced 2xs. When this happens the car flashes sporadic messages such as a/c off high engine heat, service stabilitrak, change oil, etc. The car also has started leaking oil. Finally on February 10th, 2018 the car had these same issues again and this time the engine went entirely. The car had total engine failure at 83,500 miles and now requires a new engine. This is the worst car I have ever owned and I would never recommend it to anyone. Upon going online everyone has these same exact issues so I have no idea why massive recalls have not been made.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. While driving, the vehicle overheated and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle shut down and was towed to champion Chevrolet Cadillac (36006 bristol hwy, johnson city, TN 37601) where it was diagnosed that head gasket needed to be replaced. It would cost an additional $500 for additional diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: 8-356-5888446. The manufacturer stated that the water pump was replaced in 2014 and referred the contact to NHTSA. No further assistance was provided. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 138,000.
I have a 2012 chevy Cruze lt, it doesn't even have 75k and I've only had it for 2 years. Driving through north little rock on the interstate my temperature gage shot from cool to red, my car dinged and posted a message a/c off due to high engine temps. My a/c was not on, as I was pulling over another message dinged and my engine power was reduced. I let the car idle as the next message instructed me to do, the temp would not go down. I turned the car off and called for a ride. Thankfully a nlr police officer sat with me until my boyfriend came as I was broke down on a bad side of town. That being said, we had the car towed to our ase independent mechanic to have it diagnosed as we thought it was just the thermostat sticking. Nope! blown head gasket! all because of a faulty water inlet. It is a known problem all across the forums. My mechanic had replaced numerous inlets on these cars and chevy had yet to do a recall. I contacted gm and filed a complaint. They are only replacing faulty water pumps, even though the water pump replacement parts include the water inlet. I was told I had to have it diagnosed by their dealership and after much back and forth finally got the diagnostic fee waived. I received a call today from the dealer informing me that I have a cracked head, warped gasket, and need to replace the engine. This is all due to a defect the manufacturer knows about. To too it off the power train warranty expired in March and my extended warranty expired 5k miles ago. Chevy wants me to pay out of pocket to replace all the damage that occurred from their defect. I am contacting the bbb, my attorney general, and any news outlet I can to get this issue brought to light. With a vehicle just over 5 years old and not even 100,000 miles on it to have to replace an engine is ludicrous.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that an abnormal burning odor emitted from the vehicle and it overheated. In addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated to respond and the brakes made an abnormal noise. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the thermostat and water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Over heating. 3 times in 3 years. I have had to have water pump replaced and thermometer. Mechanic has told me he doesn't understand this issue. Car doesn't cool down in idle. Directed me to dealership. 1 st time occurred I took it to closed shop. Dealership said it's not covered cause they didn't do the work. It wasn't like I could get it to them the car was shutting down. Next time I got it back to same mechanic as it was still warranty. This time they replaced same items no charge said take it to dealer they don't know what cause is. I know of other people that had a chevy cruz with same issues and they traded it in. This has been a terrible car. These kind of problems occurred in the 80s not the 2000s.
Strong smell of antifreeze while driving, strong smell of antifreeze under the hood, antifreeze leaking on serpentine belt and sprayed around engine compartment. Dealer replaced water pump.
Failure of water pump. On the morning after normal work commute of 60 miles, found spilled coolant under vehicle. Gm service replaced the water pump under warranty. Vehicle only had 25k miles and the water pump failed-unacceptable.
Took vehicle in for oil change, had to do "heavy engine repair" per technician, replaced water pump and seal as it was found leaking. Refilled with coolant.
Strong odor of coolant entering the interior of car when heater is used. Becomes stronger if window is open while driving . Odor is not present when at standstill. Open opening hood with engine off odor can be sensed near the water pump area. Dealer replaced water pump a week ago to remedy the problem. The vehicle has 28 k on it.
2012 Chevrolet Cruze. Consumer writes in regards to coolant smell in vehicle. According to the invoice, the surge tank and heater core outlet and water pump were leaking. The consumer has since traded the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that the temperature warning indicator illuminated. The contact also noticed an abnormal odor coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact found an antifreeze leak. The vehicle was taken to campbell Chevrolet (2151 scottsville rd, bowling green, ky) where it was diagnosed that the water pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred a year later. The same dealer diagnosed that there was a crack in the coolant outlet flange and recommended it be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
Noxious coolant smell inside vehicle when heater is on. Coolant smell coming from engine compartment when it is warm. The water pump has been changed, next repair was re routing coolant reservoir, next repair was mold found in heater core compartment/cleaned and deoderizer was used, last repair was heater core case replaced. This problem started with a leaking water pump and has not been addressed. Seems gm is trying different repairs in hopes it will be fixed. The problem doesn't,t seem to be diagnosed. Only happens in cold weather months with the heater on. Heated air from the vents smell like burned coolant. Very irritating to the eyes and throat, eyes are watery and swollen, very difficult to see and drive. Then severe coughing. We can not safely drive longer than 20 minutes. My dealer tells me they never heard of this problem yet is quick search of the internet shows many documented cases. The smell of coolant is in our clothes and the fabric of the interior of the car.
12/13/12 check engine light is on and vehicle hesitates on acceleration from a stop. They replaced the failed turbo charger assembly. Replaced valves inside head. 03/21/2013 - error message "a/c off due to high engine temp" . Replaced a/c compressor. 12/13/13- water pump leaking replaced water pump and coolant. 08/29/2014 - "engine overheated - idle engine" error message "a/c off due to high engine temp" dealer fixed recall low coolant level. 10/15/14- car having power issues needs to be jump-started. After looking at the car they made me pay $89. 95 to replace battery. 11/03/14 - "engine oveheated-idle engine" "a/c off due to high engine temp" "service traction control" "reduced engine power" . The car was shaking and losing power had to be towed to dealership.
Coolant odor in passenger compartment from day one. Water pump replaced twice in the previous 8 months. Still leaks coolant. Vehicle is unsafe because you never know when or where you will become disabled and need to be towed highway location, night, bad neighborhood etc. . My wife no longer wants to drive this vehicle. Also have had the braking recall done twice now, so far so good, but for how long?.
Coolant smell inside vehicle cabin and outside of vehicle. Noticed when I first purchased the car during the winter. This occurs after extended drives, typically more than 30 minutes, during cold weather when using the heat. Problem has progressively gotten worse. Gm has looked into it approximately 8 times. 4 repair attempts (coolant reservoir cap replacement, water pump, coolant reservoir modification and hvac assembly replacement). Problem has not been resolved. Internet search has revealed many owners experiencing the same condition, as well as a class action law suit due to the coolant smell inside the vehicle cabin. This is a health risk to all occupants. Further research revealed affected models include the: Cruze, malibu and sonic.
