Steering Problems of Chevrolet Cruze - part 1

The 3rd brake light is known to leak on chevy cars, which I found out when searching up the issues, which allows water inside trunk without your knowledge and does water damage to the battery and other electrical components that are located in the trunk that controls the dashboard, a/c, radio, power steering and probably even more. Safety risk: makes your dashboard stop working along with the power steering, while driving. There is another vehicle at the same dealer as mine right now with water in the trunk, it’s an impala. When you search up on the internet about dashboard not working along with radio and a/c there are quite a few different people pointing to the leaking 3rd brake light and water in the trunk damaging the electrical components in the trunk. The vehicle is at a Chevrolet dealer right now being fixed. No warning messages before it happened. I have only owned the car for 1 year bought it used June 2024. The bill I included is so far what they are saying needs to be fixed but I’m sure more to come as they get some components working.

The steering wheel keeps locking up while driving fast/slow or turning. Everything shuts off, then back on and all codes flash. My car literally locks up, it’s really unsafe when I can’t control the vehicle. Almost hit another car, due to steering wheel locking up. Only thing I was told at the chevy dealer house was there were no recalls. So they wouldn’t look unless they got to charge me. This issue started happening about five months ago. And I drive like a grandma.

Purchased new in 2019 – 32k miles - oil changes every 6 months. Lightly driven, no modifications, all original engine components and tune. Engine developed a significant miss. Several warnings on stabilitrak, abs, and p0300. Significant oil leak at front of engine, oil is splashed all over the passenger side of the engine compartment. There is significant ‘chugging’ of air and oil from the dipstick tube and from the oil filler cap. This condition indicates excessive pressure leakage to the crankcase that is caused by a crack or failure to the #1 piston which is a very, very, very common failure with an extensive and indisputably documented history with the 1. 4 engine throughout the history of the Chevrolet Cruze since its introduction. Compression test shows cylinder #1 at about 80 psi while cylinders 2, 3, and 4 are at 190 psi. This proves that there is a catastrophic compression leak down into the engine crankcase causing the misfire p0300 and the resulting excessive crankcase pressure causing the oil leak at the front of the engine and the expelling of air and oil from the dipstick tube and from the oil filler cap. This needs to be a warranty repair and the cost covered 100% by gm as it is a known defect with this engine since it has been first been used in their cars. Refer gm bulletin: 18-na-171 - [xxx] gm bulletin: pip5490d - [xxx] gm bulletin: pip5421 - [xxx] reading through the extensive volume of posts on the #1 piston failure, gm/Chevrolet should have acknowledged this and a recall should have been issued and the warranty extended to cover an piston and/or piston ring failures with the 1. 4 engine no matter what year or what vehicle it was installed in. 9/28/2024 abs light and traction control light came on my 2018 chevy Cruze lt along with steering assist reduced while driving home making car hard to steer above 50 mph and coming into curves Chevrolet needs to be made to recall and repair this problem, I have noticed a lot of Cruze owners having the same problem could be dangerous while driving without some previous indication or prior warranting.

I have been up there date for fixing this vehicle for the last 4 years when I bought it with 60k miles , I have replaced multiple parts so far from foil pump , wheel, coolant pipes and the container many times from constant leaking in the fuel pump, I have replaced the alternater twice by 70k miles , abs system failed many times and no one can fix it , lastly , my daughter was driving to school and while she was driving on the roundabout in the outer lane . She tried to turn the steering wheel t take the exit and everything got locked on her immediately from steering wheel and the break paddle caused he car shift to the curb and hit the side walk because it went out if control because the tire split out the wheel along with another piece from wheel behind the tire , almost killed my daughter on the seen . I had spent in this at least $10k and now it barely passed &100k just unbelievable. This car is piece of trash no safety in this car now I parked the car and I’m trying to think what to do with it. I will take it back to the gm and the chevy dealers and I’m complain because even the dealers for the gm and chevy are the worst people to deal with and the worst customer service. They’re not helpful at all. I have went to local shops. They do better job but the thing is this car is piece of crap replacing and go back. I am not spending any more penny on this car now I have to get a brand new car for my daughter to go to college she needs it better or don’t sell more cars. This has to be a trust immediately as my daughter career relying on transportation, and I am not claiming my insurance to fix the damage on my vehicle because my insurance will raise my premiums and there was no other car involved because she was on the roundabout on the side lane and she had to hit the curb because the car kept going and has no control but luckily she wasn’t going on the inside lane on the roundabout otherwise she’ll be hitting another vehicles from losing control.

Car caught on fire under hood.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while making a turn, the vehicle went in another direction. While her son was driving at 2–3 mph, making a turn, the vehicle went in another direction. The frame was rusted and secured with chicken wire. While her son was  driving at 20 mph and driving up the parking garage, the steering wheel was straight, but the wheel went towards the left, and he  crashed into a pole. The vehicle was drivable. The air bags deployed and went to the floorboard. The abs and stability track control. There were no reported injuries, police reports, or fire. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 105, 000.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the steering wheel pulled to the left forcibly. The contact also stated that the vehicle was oversteered, and the wheel made the vehicle move in a straight line. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the inner tie rod had separated from the steering gear and both inner tie rods and tires needed to be replaced. The cars first started telling me randomly that it needed service to the stabilitrak and the. Would disappear, the next component was the anti theft activated and after turning car off. . Next time I tried to turn on, it acted as if battery was dead and locked my key in ignition. Fixed itself a couple hours later. Next time it gave me issues all of these components started to come on at same time while also causing power steering to come on and go out in the middle of driving which could have caused a horrible wreck (didn’t thank god) and also started flickering lights inside and outside of car, and the radio turned on and off as well…the car now will not turn on and acts as if battery is dead unless I use cables and have someone jump start my car…it definitely seems to be shorting out like the wiring isn’t working the way it should…I have now taken it to auto one and they tested battery and altinater and said both were in great condition, so I researched and have seen that my car make and model years from 2011-2015 have a recall on the negative battery cable not being crimped right enough but my car specifically isn’t included because it is past its warranty…which I’m sorry is ridiculous in every way no matter any warranty this was a mistake made by the manufacturer and it should be corrected on every car that is included in the years they specifically stated themselves they failed to do correctly when made…my car behaving this way and putting me and my family in danger is nothing that is our fault but the manufacturers and it should 100% be covered…I’m currently waiting to have it looked at by mechanic to reconfirm what I already know, and will know shortly that it is indeed the negative battery cable. . I need this covered and corrected by dealer near me.

Traction control warning pops up and steering stops, even while driving. Motor shuts down and smells like fuel in water res.

Power steering warning keeps coming and going, replaced battery didn't fix saw a lot of complaints about negative battery cable so replaced that and it fixed the issue. Cruze's up to 2015 recalled this the 2016 obviously needs it too.

The electrical power steering goes in and out while driving. This issue is intermittent. Fuses and ground on electrical system have been check with no issues found.

I purchased 2013 chevy Cruze in 2021. Starting with steering going out, all electrical power is affected. Radio comes on and off. Light comes on to check stab trak. Engine started while key in ignition but I wasn't in car. I can't afford to get a different car now a days. I'm disabled and need this car to get to my dr appts but I'm afraid the vehicle will kill me, someone or worse. This vehicle needs a very very serious recall to fix this before someone is killed. That won't work!! fix it please I beg you!!!.

The steering wheel will intermittently "stick" requiring a slight tug to release.

Loss of steering cause to side collision into bridge at 70mph no air bags deployed and no seat belts locked cause bodily injuries.

My car often loses power unexpectedly in the middle of a turn in an intersection and once while exiting a busy road. Twice it has died upon arrival at destinations and yet the battery has indicated when tested as fully charged. The key indicator is the radio system turns off for a second or two and then automatically restarts and the car with it. When this occurs the car is unable to be driven as the wheel will not turn. I have informed the local chevy dealership near me and test was done with no error codes reported. What I have had to do is remove the battery cable and replace it and it seems to make the car work for a little longer until it starts the process again with the radio. I had work done to repair the window motor and that is when I first notified chevy (I will have to locate the date). I have given permission for my friend to drive the car and he has seen this occur with the radio but did not notice if the car shut down.

When I turn left or right stereo shuts off all my warning lights come on and steering gos out. And sometimes it shuts down. Almost got hit a cause it did this . This is a serious safety issue. Nobody can pin point the problem. Then a code says open and close drivers window. If I get killed cause this car does this . And getting worse . Chevy will be sued . Can you get chevy to repair this possible faulty . Problem. May a recall in electric system.

I purchased a car on 8-11& I didn’t pick it up until 8/13 of this year . On 8/14 the electrical went out of my middle consol starting with the radio and then down to the heating and air-conditioning buttons along with the fact that the windows would not roll down or up . When you use the bluetooth in the car the ac shuts down and I hear a roaring sound coming from the engine as well as whenever I stop the car just jumps. There is also a sound in the steering wheel whatever it’s turned right to left.

I purchased this vehicle almost three weeks ago…I’m assuming it’s out of warranty…j am spending out of pocket expenses to have this car repaired…. It has a faulty leakage in transmission that mechanics seem to can’t fix…. I need my car for transportation…. Atp I’m assuming the car is a lemon.

For about a year now my 2014 chevy Cruze’s steering wheel will lock up for a few seconds while I am driving (at speeds up to 80mph) - which is extremely dangerous. When this happens, several lights will then pop up on my dashboard and messages are shown saying “service power steering” “service traction control”. The radio turns off, the lights inside the car turn off, and the back up camera stops working. The engine light has been on and will not go off. I have already replaced the transmission and the starter as well as the fuel pump. I was told by my mechanic to just get rid of the car as it has way too many issues to even attempt repairing. I once ran over a curb and popped a tire when the steering wheel locked up. Every time I start my car there is a message that say “roll down driver window and roll back up” which I do not understand. This seems to be happening to several people. I am very disappointed and scared to be driving this car.

Steering fades , blinkers go out, stability trac goes in and out. Radio goes on and off. Radio sometimes stays on after car is shut off.

Without warning, the mylink display first went black as I was making a left turn and disconnected from bluetooth. Within seconds the steering wheel got really stiff and it almost felt like the whole power shut off from the car but came back to normal within seconds and kept doing this for 3 more times, each lasting maybe 5 seconds. Very scary.

I was pulling out of a parking lot and all of a sudden my steering wheel locked up. I was able to move it but it took a lot of force to turn it. I was 1/2 a mile from my house so I attempted to make it. I almost ran off the road trying to turn left at a red light and when I turned on my street. I almost drove into my gutter at the end of my driveway too. The next day it worked again. I do not know if it was a one time glitch or something more serious.

Additionally, the contact stated that there were electrical failures with the vehicle and the doors failed to lock as needed. The contact also stated that the steering wheel had locked up on several occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Driving the car and suddenly it began to stall, next engine light came on, stability light came on, engine overheating waring came on, radio turned off, ac stopped working, smelling antifreeze, car shakes, power stalls when accellerating, smoke exited the engine, oil leaked and finally car stopped. Aaa got car took it to a mechanic and rebuilt whole cylinder head. Now I received a letter from gm stating something wrong with pcv valve, and same thing is happening again same senerio just 4 months after getting fixed.

Several times the steering wheel mechanism locked up while driving and I was unable to steer it momentarily. During that time several warning lamp indicators intermittently illuminated, and the radio shorted, and the instrument panel flashed or blacked out. Also, there is a coolant leak. I have the vehicle at the dealership repair center and they haven’t reproduced the above problems, but did find a problem with a engine coolant leak from the water pump and a radiator hose in which they are repairing.

Service bulletin number: 14311b, date: June 2015, service bulletin: sb-10057574-8899 condition on certain 2011–2015 model year Chevrolet Cruze vehicles, the negative battery cable terminal clamp may have an insufficient crimp at the battery negative terminal. Over time, the internal resistance increases and vehicle electrical systems do not receive adequate power. With this condition, the following effects are possible: the radio/hvac display may turn off and on; the antilock brake system, service traction system, service stabilitrac and steering vehicle messages may come on and off; the turn signal sound may not be heard; “battery saver active” and “service steering” may display in the driver information center (dic); and the interior and exterior lighting may flicker. Power steering assist may also be lost, and greater effort may be needed to turn the steering wheel at low speeds or while the vehicle is stopped. It's in the service bulletin provided below. I am not sure if my 2012 chevy Cruze eco is included in this service bulletin (below), but this service bulletin is the closest thing I could find that describes what is going on with my vehicle. Lights blinking, steering hard to turn, steering warning light coming on (stabilitrac), and other things as well described in the service bulletin. Again, I am not sure if my car's VIN number, is included in the service bulletin, I would like to know if it is? or not?, before taking it in to the dealer ship, for repairs/service, because it is unsafe to drive at this point forward.

I've had this car for less than 2 months I've already spent $3,500 I've had to replace the thermostat the resvoir tank most oxygen sensors lower stream and upper stream now has a blown head gasket and a possible fuel pump.

This morning, I was making a right turn into a neighborhood when I hit a small hole in the road and the car turned off. It alerted me that it was power steering and airbags. Now when I drive into my driveway it may turn off because of the curb, when I turn into work it may turn off because there is a small area where the road has small holes.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, several unknown warning lights illuminated and the vehicle intermittently stalled. The contact also stated that the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road; then drove the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not determine the cause of the failure since the unknown warning lights were no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis once the warning lights were again illuminated. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

At random times, my stereo will go blank, no sound, no blinker sounds, nothing. At the same time, the service traction control, service stabitrax will start flashing on and off. My power steering will cut off as well. This will happen a few times while driving then it will not happen again. Then randomly on a different day, it will happen again.
