I've been to plenty of mechanic shops and they all have said the same thing about the motor and the engine that's in these cars they say they are not the right engines and everyone that have these cars have the same problem I have gotten everything fixed and my engine is going bad. I've been told there is a recall for my engine & or motor. For the last few weeks my check engine light gave been on then out the blue my stabilitrak comes on no one could figure it out I took it to gm they didn't find anything besides spark plugs, oil change ,fuel flush & engine top cleaner now they saying after the sparkplugs got done it cleared that code but now my engine is bad. I get oil changed every month. Which means it's getting to much oil.
As I was driving on the expressway I experienced my vehicle losing engine power. The indicator showed that there was an issue with oil pressure. I have since been informed that the engine has blown. I recently had a parts recall and took it in,within a day my check engine light came on. I went back to the dealership to let them know and was treated with confrontation. Now I have no car and still paying on the loan.
Check engine light comes on,checked it out it says evap system code,is this a common problem or is it a recall I erased code and replace gas cap, still check engine light came back on.
While driving my car stopped in the middle of the the intersection I turned car off and back on. Made it home and check engine light comes on. Since I bought my car my car rattles and more so when in reverse.
Having to add oil between oil changes, check engine light came on and had it checked. Per code low oil and can only be reset after an oil change. Brought it to the dealer and got the oil changed and a few days later the dealer called stating I need to get new piston rings because of a recall on the vehicle or I will lose oil. The dealer stated the gm will go 50/50 with me on the fix since the recall expired. I did not get a recall notice or have the 50% of the cost to fix the vehicle, I am the 2nd owner.
My vehicles check engine light came on then the stability light came on the vehicle sounded like it was choking. When we got it to the repair shop it stalled out and when the shop did shove investigation there was no oil in the vehicle. Although there was no warning about oil being low or lights on. As we were bringing vehicle to shop it smelled of burning. Vehicle started malfunctioning when stationary and became worse when in motion.
Frequent stalling when starting from a stop including at red lights and stop signs. Also trips check engine light. Have taken it in for service several times. Checked throttle body, cam sensor, other sensor, solenoids, changed oil twice, checked for recalls or service bulletins, all work done by mechanics at goodyear, they tried and tried and finally gave up after saying it was a real safety issue and they had no idea how to fix it. The dealer's position is that there is no problem, but obviously there is. The check engine light codes have been reviewed and every possible cause seems to have been explored. There are quite a number of similar complaints about stalling for the Equinox if doing a web search. Has recurred over several weeks, goodyear service typically fixes it for less than 50 miles.
Had to have both converters replaced and they replaced the upstream O2 sensor as well. November 13, 2018 the car would barely pull a hill, and would act like it was going to cut off. We replaced the downstream O2 sensor which took care of the check engine light, and then we did an oil change on November 17, 2018. We have kept up with all the maintenance as recommended with dexos oil. The car is still acting very sluggish and lurches or revs to a higher rpm while driving at times. After the oil change to December 15th, I had put an additional gallon and a half of oil in the car besides what was put in during the oil change. On December 15th, went to check the oil and noticed a slimy yellowish white substance in the oil cap of the car. Advised me to clean the cap out real good and dry it out. Do an oil change to make sure the oil looked fine and was not cloudy. We also checked the antifreeze to make sure there was no oil present. We did another oil change and did everything our dealership told us to do, found the oil looked fine, but smelled of gas. That is when we started looking online and found the other complaints. Right now don't have the thousands of extra funds to send it to the shop or replace the engine, but from other complaints that looks like what is going to have to happen. Saturday spoke with a tech at a Chevrolet dealership and he said it is a known issue with my car, and that gm sent out a bulletin in 2017 but that my car would not be covered as it is over the 140,000 miles limit since my car is currently 165,000 miles on it. We are currently checking the oil every 2-3 days and putting oil in as needed, as this week along we have added almost 2 quarts of oils and have went less than 200 miles. I refuse to drive it on the highway as I'm afraid that something is going to happen and I'm going to be in an accident, so I take all back roads.
I have a 2012 chevy Equinox with under 76,000 miles on it tell me it need a new timing chain. The cramshaft position has issues. I turned the car on one day to go to work and the check engine light can on I'm being told that's the issue. I'm not understanding how a car 6 years old needs engine work to this extent!?.
Car stalls and jerks really hard under light acceleration, the check engine light comes on and stays on when it happens, had it checked and it shows bad camshaft sensor, but it has been replaced and still have the same issue, this is all after they fixed my engine from using too much oil. It starts fine and idles fine but stalls and jerks under acceleration, but it doesn't always do this, it mainly happens when you drive a few miles stop at the store then go back out and start it up. Which it still starts just fine, then when you go to take off it does the stall/jerk when you try to accelerate. I'm not the only one with this vehicle and issue and something needs to be done.
Check engine light goes off and on. Vehicle often stalls upon stopping and at times has an extremely hard decel, which continues after the key is taken out of the ignition. Vehicle idles hard. Upon parking, vehicle has suddenly reported reduced engine power" and " check stabili trak" not allowing the vehicle to go over 40 mph.
I purchased a 2012 gm Equinox on sept. 6, 2017 sept 9 my check engine light came on and vehicle was low on oil we added oil sept 13 I had a tire claim due to tires being dry rotted per dealership. Oct 19 car started driving funny, stalling stopped in middle of road with my 18 month old son and my 8 year old disabled daughter. Had to call someone to come. When checked vehicle had almost no oil in it again. Oct 29 bringing disabled daughter to school when car stalled in middle of road. Checked and there was almost no oil in it. We have had to add oil to vehicle at least once a week since just to make sure I didn't break down taking my daughter to school. We did this every Monday just as preventative maintenance because obviously there was a problem with the motor. Feb 6 even after keeping oil in vehicle weekly my car wouldn't start this morning. Checked oil etc. It finally started up later that day and I went to get my step daughters. When we got ready to leave and tried to crank car it made a loud whiny kind of sound and it smelled like wires or something burning. Steering locked up and it wouldn't turn over again and I couldn't remove key from ignition. The vehicle wouldn't crank back. Called someone to come. They checked battery, fuses, etc. I ended up having to leave my car where it was overnight believing it was an ignition problem. Feb 7 mechanic was called to check car. Rear main sealed was busted, timing chain had broken and severely damaged entire motor. Entire engine was completely shot and had numerous broken pieces! I was told there was no warranty on this and dealership couldn't do anything about it. I decided to do some research. There are literally hundreds of complaints with details very similar to my own and end results the same as my own.
12 Jan 18 I was driving my Equinox on the highway when the stability light, check engine light and a message "reduced power" came on. The next day I took it to the dealer and they said the rear main seal failed and damaged to the engine of a tune of $5500 to $6000 (new engine requires). He stated it was caused by the extreme cold weather we are having. I am calling gm tomorrow because a vehicle with 74500 miles should not have this issue.
Car idles rough when stopped jerks during acceleration then stalls there are no check engine lights on.
My car shut down while I was driving. I have been having problems with the check engine light coming on. . I am afraid to drive it. I am having it towed to the dealership tomorrow. I am driving a rental. I will never buy another product from this company. I have been reading the complaints. Why have this SUV not been recalled. Are they waiting for someone to be killed before they do this?.
I had driven my car to work without a problem which is about 2 miles from my house. After work I went to the store again with no problem. When I backed out of the parking space my car stalled. I put it in park and restarted it, but once I put it in reverse again it shook, and stalled. I restarted it again and gave it a little more gas, then put it in gear to back up. Now the check engine light is on. It wasn't on before all the stalling. I took the car home and parked it thinking it may be bad gas. A week went by without any problems. The check engine light was off the next morning when I started the car. . I came to a light and stopped, waiting for the signal to change. When the light changed I started to accelerate and the car started jerking a little and stalled. This is a busy intersection and I didn't want to be stuck in oncoming traffi as I was in the left turn lane. I put it in park and restarted it again. Again it stalled. I restarted it giving it more acceleration then putting it in drive. . I pulled into a parking lot and shut it off. After a few minutes I started it and the check engine light is now on. The car stalled 4 more times before I left the parking lot. I drove it home and parked it. I have read several other complaints that sound exactly like mine. I do not feel safe driving this car knowing it can stall at any given moment putting me, my family, and other travelers at risk. So far I have not been on the highway with this issue. I had it checked and the code came back as p0010. This appears to be a similar problem as the 2011 Equinox had and it was recalled. I strongly feel gm should address this problem before people are killed.
My Equinox has stalled several times while at low speeds. Today it happened while turning into a park spot, it stalled once at a red light. The engine completely shuts down and I have to put the car in park and restart it. The dealership can't get me in till next week. Sometimes a check engine light comes on and sometimes it doesn't, it also using a lot of oil!!! gm needs to step up and fix this issue it is a huge safety concern. We shouldn't have to pay for this because it isn't normal wear and tear. There are thousands of complaints for this same issue out there.
Purchased with 38,000 miles. At 43,000 the check engine light came on. I went directly to dealership. Less than 5 miles away. They took it in, came out and said I was 4quarts low on oil. ??????? was told normal was 1 qt every 1000 miles. No way would I believe that. Have been doing. Excessive oil use test. Waiting fo gm now . They did do a recall on 2010 Equinox with same problem changed rings on it we will see.
Vehicle first started cutting off when placed in drive and reverse. It is now cutting off even when vehicle is being driven when pulling off from a stopped position. This has been happening now for a week. Check engine light came on and gave a p0010 code. Cam sensor was replaced and issue is still continuing to happen.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle restarted after several attempts. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
