Uses oil lots had to replace timing chain at only 67000 miles now back in shop for another gm known issue but they won't cover it had the pvc freeze up which created extra pressure in crank case and blew out my main rear seal lost all oil in engine and while it had no oil no warning lights came on I knew to shut off engine with some knocking noise I have two small kids and this is a live and death issue that gm won't take care of they published bulletin on this for my make and year of car but I put in my VIN and it's not covered even tho it's the same part and design that's in question I don't know how gm can get away with this the car is a death trap after this repair I'll put in over $4000 in repairs I think they need to replace this engine with a different type people are gonna be killed by this.

2 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

2012 chevy Equinox was making a knocking noise took it to my mechanic. It was out of oil before my oil change was due. I had 1000 miles left before my oil change. This is the second time this has happened within 6 months. Contacted GMC today got s case number but have to wait for it to happen again and take it to a GMC dealer for a diagnostic test. Then today during a snow storm my windshield wipers just stopped working it was a mess trying to get home making frequent stops because of visibility. GMC said there are no recall for that or the oil consumption but I see so many complaints online about all these issues. Not to add the paint in the inside of the car doors and trunk doors are rusting. This is my last GMC car going back to Honda.

3 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

I have tried contacting gm multiple times to no avail. I have contacted you all previously to no avail. This is my last hope. I'm going to keep complaining until something is done. My vehicle has an excessive oil consumption issue. It started around 60k miles and has just rolled over the 80k mile mark this week. In the beginning, my vehicle began making this knocking sound so I took it to a local shop to have it checked out. It was completely dry of oil. It was no yet due an oil change and I had had the vehicle for just over a year prior to this. I am now putting a quart of oil in my vehicle per week. I've been told that gm are called years 2010 and 2011 and "some" 2012's unfortunately mine was not one of the "some. " - this is a gm manufacturing issue that needs to be addressed. How is it even remotely possible to issue a recall for some and not all. I've been told that if I pay $2000 to have the issue fixed, someday if there is a recall, I'll be reimbursed. As the mother of a child with multiple medical bills, shelling out $2000 for their crappy manufacting is unacceptable for me and it's totally unacceptable. My next step is better business bureau. Please give me some insight. I'm at the end of my rope. I have to keep oil in my vehicle at all times, and I'm terrified that my engine will blow while I'm out with my son in it.

4 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Around the time frame of may, 2016 I began to notice that my 2012 Chevrolet Equinox with a 2. 4l ecotec started having a knocking noise from the engine while idling. The mileage at this point in time was around 99k miles. At the same time that the knocking began, I noticed the check engine light came on. I went to an auto zone to check my oil levels, and realized that the dip stick showed the oil was much lower than it should have been. I went inside and purchased dexos 5w30 oil per the owner's manual and added 1 qt to it. Additionally, I noticed after I took the oil cap off that there was smoke coming from inside. Per the owner's manual, the gm oil life monitor system uses an algorithm that analyzes your driving activity, temperature outside, and several other factors to determine when the oil needs changed. According to this system I was at roughly 70% oil life. The system states that the oil only needs to be changed within 600 miles of the low oil life alert coming on, this doesn't happen until you get around 15%. At this point I began monitoring my oil consumption much more closely and carried oil on me at all times. As time has gone by, I've noticed the car is burning oil quicker, and as of my most recent oil change in February of this year, we began doing oil consumption tests per gm TSB # 13-06-01-003h that explains this issue. The TSB notes that it covers my make and model, but my VIN does not come up as being covered up to 120k miles for this repair. I have had a dealer tell me that the fix listed in the TSB is what needs to be done, but that it will cost $3. 4k. Many other models with the same engine are covered but mine isn't. My car has since started stalling when it is idling at low rpm's, specifically on 3/22/17 it stalled twice while in a drive-through. Current mileage today is 118. 6k and the 2 oil consumption tests show burning up to 1 qt per 1k miles.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving various speeds, a knocking noise was heard coming from the engine without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a failure with the piston ring, which caused excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received an extended warranty notification for the engine. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty due to excessive mileage. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
