Air Bag On-off Switch Problems of Chevrolet Equinox

I have had a 2005 and a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox both were in accidents and the airbags did not deploy . The 2005 was a rear end crash the car that hit me was traveling approximately 60 mph. The second accident was a frontal crash I swerved to miss hitting a dog and children going on the road. The steering wheel locked up and hit a tree. I have had 3 Equinox all have ignition switch problems. The one I have now has major transmission problems. It has been in the shop now for 8 weeks.

Takata recall" for a 2007 chevy Equinox igniition switch my key gets stuck in the ignition I have broken my key trying to get my key out the ignition had it replace by a locksmith who jacked my key up the key has no smooth touch it's very had when it go into the ignition it's very hard to turn, this is a emergency someone please recall this part of thees,cars it's very dangerous I have kids I see where other cars are being recalled , can GMC, chevy recall all the chevy from 2005-2010 for ignition switch help!!!! this problem had been on for 8months I thought it was going to stop never had these kinda of problem with any car in the past.

Passenger side airbag sensor doesn't go on or goes on and then turns off while in car driving or stationary. Moving around on seat makes it switch back and forth. Looks like this is the same issue from the 2007 recall, but not extended to 2008. Haven't taken to dealership yet, but seems to be a common problem. Was sold to me last month from a used car dealer.

Airbag warning light on - took to mechanic yesterday and they found the following "b0074 & b0081 set. Diagnosed and found passenger presence module internally failed". They told me it's a 800+ repair. Called dealer priority cheverolet in chesapeake virginia and they said to check connections below seat as they sometimes come loose. As an engineer I find it hard to believe that such a vital life saving device would have such an easy single point failure to be so easy to come loose as by simple moving the seat. When you observe the switch module below the seat it is just there dangling! this needs to get rolled up as a recall.

While I was driving the light on my dash told me to check air bags. It would nutmeg off. I took it to rydell Chevrolet and they told me that the "switch" was not working and my air bags were inoperable. They also told me that the repair was not covered and would cost me over $900. 00. In was furious and spoke to Chevrolet customer service . They told me that they would talk to the dealer. They gave me $70. 00 off. I will never purchase another gm product again. I still think that they should have fixed it at no charge because of the mileage on the SUV.

Vehicle was hit on the driver's side at the front door. Vehicle went right after impact at full throttle into a 12 ft ditch. Turned 90 degrees out of the ditch,came out of the ditch, across a 4 lane road. Front left wheel caught on a curb, vehicle still a full throttle with driver trying to brake. Veered to the left, jumped a 2 ft ditch, went to the right, hit a 3 ft rock, knocked the rock into the ditch and car ended up on top of the rock. Air bags did not deploy at this this. Vehicle travelled approximately 953 ft at full throttle before hitting the rock. Gm had replaced the ignition switch once under policy vehicle would not come out of gear when parked sometimes. Even after replacing ignition switch we continued to have problems removing key from ignition. Nationwide insurance has possession of the car and is paying an outside vendor to down load the data from this accident. Gm was called an we got one phone call back about this accident a week ago. Do have pictures and video from the accident scene. Also have a diagram of the distances the car traveled while changing directions after being hit. Best time to call is between 10am and 1pm as I drive a school bus and can not talk. Or after 6pm to 9pm.

Passenger side air bag doesn't work and may be because of the ingition switch which seems to be a problem with a lot of gm vehicles.

Our service airbags light came on. We were told by our local Chevrolet dealer that this could disable airbags. Unfortunately there was a 2 week backorder for new switch. We could not use the vehicle for 2 weeks, rented another vehicle and then spent $750 to repair the switch. Of note, this is the same part that has been recalled with the near identical sister vehicle, the Chevrolet traverse. I suspect the same problem and gm may need to consider recalls for the Equinox as well. They are near identical vehicles, dshes, controls, etc.

I took my 2008 chevy Equinox to the dealer because the service airbag light was on. It was determined that the roof rail module needed replacement at a cost of $1,475. I had to rent a car for $175 and leave Equinox for repair when the gm tech told me the Equinox was dangerous to drive because the airbags would not deploy in an accident. Upon completion, the service airbag light was off and the passenger airbag light displayed on as my 115lb daughter was in the passenger seat. Half way home, passenger air bag light switched to off. Would the airbag have deployed in an accident now that the sensor wasn't detecting anyone in the passenger seat? most likely not. Sometimes the passenger light is on and then it goes off. Sometimes it never senses a passenger at all. I have contacted gm corporate office and they will not rectify the problem. They want to give a $2,000 loyalty certificate to purchase a new gm vehicle within a year. I can't afford to purchase a new vehicle. Per gm corporate, this $1,475 repair is routine maintenance. This contradicts the certified gm tech who told me this shouldn't be happening. He said it had nothing to do with the mileage or maintenance of the vehicle. A quality vehicle & the safety of their customers is of no concern to gm. I've had this issue for a year now since the passenger presence module was replaced in September 2011 at a cost of $545. Bob bell chevy bel air can't replicate the problem so therefore deemed there is no problem. I can't have anyone sit in the passenger seat due to this defective airbag system. There are many complaints about the Equinox on this same issue. In fact, 2007 Equinox was recalled for similar airbag issues. I have requested a full refund from gm but they refuse. I am concerned for my safety and my children's safety. Replacing air bag modules & sensors is not routine maintenance that I should be forced to bear.

Passenger side seat airbag sometimes does not come on. Can't seem to find the problem. Kind of a nerve racking situation. Steering column does not lock when the vehicle is shut off and the key removed. Not a good feeling with all that is going on with gm ignition switch problems.

The speed odometer stopped working ,the passenger air bags on and off light was going on then off now not working at all the power searing went out and then back working after the dealer tyred to charge my wife 800 plus for parts not needed all this has been going on sense she first bout it off the dealer lot but they refused to resolve the electrical problems they replaced the speed odometer and even noted it in there paper work that there was body electrical ` problems with this Equinox and yet still refuse to ether fix it or replace the car with a equal value all these problems was going on before the warranty ever ran out and we have now been fighting with the dealers and gm over this now for over 7 years it even had the key switch that wont work some times and sometimes it will lock up and cut off when going down the road its done this twice now in the past year I don't feel like I nor my wife anita mann should pay to fix problems on this car due to the fact that it has all been happing since we bout the car new with less than a 100 miles on this car the dealers keep saying they cant make any codes come up but yet when we go in to them we show them what's going on with it scene it was new im sick of them lieing to us and not fixing there problems they know that are wrong with this truck if they new it had electrical problems with the truck when they did the work on the truck when it was new why didn't they fix it instead of lieing and covering up it and lieing to my wife iv had to take off from my work now for a week fighting these people and im sick of it and still have to pay more money out off my pocket over all this this isnt far when we have the paper work from them stating it has electrical probems from day one.

I purchased my car in Dec. 2007 and have had electrical issues since Jan. 2008. At first it was simple things like replacing the radio in Apr. 2008 (under warranty), faulty wiper switch in sept. 2009 (under warranty). Then in oct. 2010 I had to pay $175. 54 to replace a faulty spark plug and wire. But February 2011 has been the worst! on 2/10/11 I was driving down a mountain in bad weather on my way to work when my entire dashboard lit up, stabilitrack disabled, abs, traction control turned off, check engine light; I couldn't drive faster than 20 mph without my car sliding all over the place. I was terrified. The dealership said the vacuum line wasn't plugged back in during my last oil change and that's what was causing it. I drove home and the same thing happened all the lights lit up again. Back to the dealership 2/16/2011. Dirty sensor, they cleaned it. I picked up my car and all the lights were on again so they replaced the sensor costing me $174. 54. Eight days later my car is back in the shop. The check engine light came on, stabilitrack light came on and my power steering failed. The dealership says its electrical and I most likely wont have to pay for it but I don't feel safe driving my car at all anymore. I have read numerous complaints online with the exact same issues and some are worse than mine. Gm needs to take responsibility and recall this vehicle. And for years my passenger side airbag hasn't worked properly. I'm 112lbs and it doesn't turn on when I'm sitting in the passenger seat. This can't be safe!.
