Roughly 38k miles on vehicle, went on a road trip and about 80 miles into the trip, was slowing down for traffic and breaks went out, the master cylinder. It was incredibly hard to press down on the breaks taking all my effort to stop the car.

At 64,000 miles the master cylinder starting leaking into the brake booster. This is a $900 repair being passed onto the consumer and is not "normal wear and tear" there are hundreds of online complaints about the 2008 chevy Equinox doing this at around 65,000 miles. There should be a recall.

My son was driving his 2007 chevy Equinox around 50 mph and noticed a smell coming from the brakes. He got home and told me they were dragging. I checked them after they cooled down. My initial thought was worn pads. I pulled the wheels and calipers and pads were good. However I could not compress the dual pistons back into the housing on either side until I loosened the bleeder screw. Being careful to not get air in the system, I was able to get the pistons back into the housing to make sure they were not stuck. I reassembled the brake system and tires. I tried to put the brakes to force the front pistons back out, but I had no pressure. I started the vehicle to see if the brakes were working, no they aren't. Now I have no breakes, front or rear! fluid will not flow back to master cylinder nor will fluid flow to calipers. My question is, master cylinder or abs module.

While driving the chevy 2007 Equinox, the brake pedal felt spongie, so I took it in to chevy thorobred for a sfety check. I was told by service that it was my master cylinder going out and that it needed to be replaced. I asked if this item was covered under pwer train warrenty; it was not. Could this be due to poor materials/ or something he could not say. I said that my auto had 58833 miles is that kinda early for such a part to brake down? I will look on the internet to see if there was a recall notice.
2007 chevy Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to brakes malfunction. The consumer stated while driving, the vehicle started braking on its own and then came to a complete stop. The traction control and stabiltrak lights blinked on and off. The consumer stated it happened several more times. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The dealer informed the consumer it would cost $4,000 to correct the problem. The vehicle was taken back to the first repair shop, where the brake master cylinder, brake boosters and brake hoses were replaced at a cost of $ 1215. 31. The vehicle performed well, for three weeks, until a heavy rain caused the traction control and stabiltrak light to flicker and the vehicle began to brake again without driver activation.
