2 Brake Sensor problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 04/08/2021

My abs and stabilitrack light would come on intermittently was told it's a bad sensor and replace when possible. On the way to take my kids to school, (no warning lights presented) I was traveling about 25 mph through the neighborhood when approaching a stop sign I depressed my brakes. Immediately the abs and stabilitrack lights came on and the brake pedal would not depress more than 1/2 and made a gear locking sound. I was able to come to a stop using manual downshift and pumping the brakes. When presenting to mechanic, I was advised to attempt to replicate. Read that again. I was advised to attempt to replicate a brake failure.

3 Brake Sensor problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Driving down the road my power engine lite comes on and acts like it is going to cut off , some times it does. My abs lite comes on at anytime, when coming to a stop my brakes slip and acts like it does not want to catch, brakes are new! also the 2010 uses about 4 to 5 qt in between oil changes and there is no leaks. Defogger does not work at all. And know having engine problems. Have changed the O2 sensor still says they need to be changed, have changed the manifold and says that still needs o be changed, engine light stays on. Stabilliy track light comes on all the time as well. This has been happening for over 6 years!.

Engine light goes off again immediately followed by significant return to lurching and then car stalls out . New terrible engine noise. Waiting for mechanic to have availability.

7 Brake Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 01/14/2016

Mileage= 110,000 miles. . . . . . . . . . . . . First of all I just got the brakes done, when I first pull the car out of the garage in the morning, as I approach the first stop sign, I press the brakes, then it feels like there's air in the brake line, makes a sound as if some of the electronics are trying to reset or something, all while that's happening, I have to keep pumping the brakes for like just a few minutes, ultimately it goes away, totally scary because I live in a school zone, and on more than one occasion there were children at the crosswalk when the fault occurred, I don't know if gm is aware of this problem, think we're going to be switching to Ford vehicles from now on, this is totally not good! then on another occasion I missed the stop sign and had to drive over the curb because the brakes gave out, couldn't avoid it, had to go on the curb to stop, going about 20 miles an hour! it's been like this for about 4 months already, got the front driver side wheel hub/sensor replaced, but after a few days, the fault recurred, the abs and the t/c light turn on, after reading similar stories I'm reluctant to put any more money into this problem, apparently, the " the pig-tail harness" fix seems to be the go-to method for the fix, will be doing that soon myself! please gm corporation do something before someone get's hurt!.

I have taken my car to tow different gm dealers regarding abs/traction control issues. I have spent $1000. 00 and the gm technicians cannot correct the issue. They have replaced the wheel sensor & the hub on the front passenger side and nothing seems to work. The abs system is constantly activating during normal braking/driving and some times interferes with stopping. 13 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

We have had repetitive problems with the abs brakes kicking in and the vehicle not wanting to stop. Have had it serviced 3 times in 4 months. (have only owned the car for 6 months). Replaced both front wheel abs sensors and the last time the abs control module was replaced and now it is doing the same thing again. It is a persistent problem but the sensor lights only come on intermittently. We have not even put 3000 miles on the vehicle since we have owned it. From looking online we have found that we are one of many people that have had the same issue. When it is dealing with a brake issue I cannot believe that chevy has not issued a recall. We also have an issue with the ignition when you turn it over it continues to try to start after it is running. The only way to make is stop is to step on the gas. Again by looking online I see that this too is a consistent problem. I really like the car but at this point I am so frustrated with taking it into the shop all of the time and having them not be able to tell me what needs done to fix it.

14 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

One day I noticed the brakes were harder than normal to push to stop the car and then my abs/traction control lights would come on, when they did the car would brake fine. This now happens on a daily basis. Sometimes the lights come on as soon as I start the car and sometimes it takes a few minutes of driving for the lights to come on, until they do, braking is scary. Both front hubs, both front sensors, rotors and pads have been replaced and still abs/traction control light coming on. Also had all four tires air pressure checked. All of this work has been performed by a licensed mechanic and he is now stumped. I have been reading other complaints on different sites with the same problem and no resolution.

15 Brake Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 10/05/2013

Experienced abs brakes kicking in at very low speeds (10 miles or less). Brought into dealer who replaced front two wheel sensors. Worked fine for 2 months and it started to happen again. Only this time, the truck was not stopping suddenly and almost caused numerous accidents. Brought into dealer a second time who had the truck for 3 days only to tell me they found nothing wrong. I brought the truck to another mechanic who replaced my front drivers side wheel bearing. Drove home from there with the same problem. Truck was brought to a 3rd and 4th mechanic who both admitted that there was a problem but nothing was being identified when scanned. Called chevy who contacted the original dealer. We played phone tag for several days with no final response. The truck has not been driven for 2 months as I'm concerned for my safety and others after many near misses. Was even pulled over by an officer who escorted me home. I cant continue to dump money into this vehicle that is almost 10 years old. I also cant understand why this has not been investigated when there are numerous complaints for the same thing through your website and a number of others. Literally thousands of complaints. Funny though that the recent malibu recall is having somewhat similar issues as I started to lose my taillights on a regular basis at the same time the abs system started acting up. Could just be a coincidence but should still be investigated just based on the number of complaints and the trial and error fixes we are all receiving.

17 Brake Sensor problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Me and my wife own a 2013 chevy Equinox. We have had this vehicle for about 18months and purchased this brand new. While driving at various speeds, the foward collision sensor activated independently without any other vehicle within close proximity. Myself and my wife have both had this problem. It happens to her all the time since she is the primary driver. She has had this happen to her over 20 times in the past 1. 5 yrs. Forward collision warning will go off with no vehicle in front of her and then the brakes will momentarily engage. I have drove the vehicle and had this happen twice. I have been in the vehicle as a passenger on (3) occassions when this happened. We have had this SUV for 18months and she has taken it to (2) dealerships. Both stated they have no idea what is causing this and told us to DE-activate the system. Why have this safety feature and you are told to turn it off by dealership because they have no idea on how to fix it?? I dont even know if they have contacted Chevrolet to inquire. Dealerships we utilized were john jones from corydon, in and coyle Chevrolet located in clarksville, in. This is a safety feature but has become a safety issue. I have done research online and have found countless other owners that are having the same problem.

18 Brake Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 05/02/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph over a speed bump, the brake pedal was depressed and the brakes began to pulsate with the illumination of the abs and traction control warning indicators. The vehicle failed to slow down after repeatedly applying the brakes. The emergency brake was engaged in order for the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was able to resume normally and had been taken to four independent mechanics for diagnosis and they were unable to locate the cause of failure. The front brakes, both abs sensors and abs module were replaced. The problem persisted after the repair was performed. The most recent technician informed that problem could possibly be an electrical issue. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000. Js.

19 Brake Sensor problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

Abs brake sensors on both the left and right front tires failed causing the vehicle braking system to vibrate and make stopping difficult. Advised by dealer that both sensors had to be replaced. Extreme safety hazard if having to stop at high speeds.

20 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 03/02/2012

Just bought this vehicle, 1 day after owning it abs and no traction control light comes on and there's a rumble in the brake pedal. My husband is a mechanic, so he put new brakes and rotors on and cleaned wheel sensors. Took it to sears and had new tires put on and wheel alignment and balance done. 2 days later I've got the same lights on and rumble in pedal. Ran fine for those 2 days. I've read way to many complaints of the same problems and no solutions to be comfortable about purchasing this vehicle and now I'm stuck with it! when is chevy gonna wake up and take notice of this problem? they have recalls for reflector and console latches, but they don't find faulty brake systems important enough to address? why is it gonna take accidents or possibly deaths before someone does something about these faulty vehicles? I see post that say we need so many people to send in complaints or sign petitions to get something done. . . . . . . . . . . Really? why. . . . . . . . Can't chevy read forums and posts about the vehicles they are putting out there? or can't someone in charge of safety and wellbeing see how many hundreds of posts there are about this issue? my husband has always been a chevy man, I'm not sure I'm with him one this one! why would a company with such a great reputation chance throwing it down the crapper! come on chevy stand behind what you're selling and make it right!.

21 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

I took the vehicle to the shop to get it checked on 11-21-11. We took the vehicle thinking that a piston was bad, because that was the way it felt, like not getting the right pressure from the piston once the brakes were activated/pressed. Once we got the call back from mechanic, he stated that we needed new rotors due to both being warped. I thought that that will take the problem away but once we got the truck back, immediately within days the problem came back. We took the vehicle back to the shop and they stated it was a tire the one causing the noise and rattle once the brakes were pressed. At the shop, they replaced the front brake pads as well as the disc brake rotors, they applied lug nut torque 100, inflation 35/35, cleaned and adjusted rear brakes. After all of this was done, I still get engine lights on the dash board. I took the truck to get it tested at autozone for free and got this code on their machine oem number to cross: p0171 definition: fuel trim bank one condition explanation: the power train control module uses the oxygen sensor to calculate the air/fuel ratio of the engine. The computer has recognized a rich or lean condition on one bank only. Probable cause: a1. If bank one and two set together suspect fuel pressure or maf (mass air flow) sensor a2. Oxygen sensor defective. A3. Ignition misfire-repair. A4. Fuel injector problem. I have not used my truck for the past 2 and a half months for fear of having an accident if breaks fail to do their job or lock up while braking. It is stressful enough if computers/mechanics nor dealers make up their mind about what the codes are or mean. I also notice the the button for the all wheel drive does not work anymore and that is being in that stage since the problem started. If anyone has a solution to this issue, please let me know. Thank you.

22 Brake Sensor problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

My abs brakes were locking while driving and made it very difficult to stop car which required repeated stomping on brake pedal. Dealer repaired front hub bearings and sensors to correct problem. Dealer or gm does not consider this a safety issue even though this made it difficult to stop vehicle and also common problem with this vehicle. Cost to repair was at owners expense.

23 Brake Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Front and back windows fog up and defrost does nothing. Visibility is severely limited and this creates very dangerous driving conditions. Nothing helps to alleviate the issue. I have tried wiping the windshield, cleaning it, alcohol, rain x, defrost, hot air, cold air, windows down, windows up, sunroof halfway open, doing back flips and nothing helps. Been happening for years. Had numerous repairs under warranty starting 3 months, 3,500 miles after I drove it off the lot in 2005 and have spent close to $8,500 on repairs after warranty expired at 50,000. Transmission dropped, a/c repaired 2x, solenoids & sensors replaced, windshield wiper leak, radiator replaced 2x, struts, calipers, now, amongst all the other issues I've had with this vehicle, the a/c-heat knob no longer turns, glove box lid just fell down one day b/c the latch suddenly broke, have to get my brake calipers & another wheel hub replaced for the 4th time, water still leaks through the map lights, I could go on.
