8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

On Dec, 12, our 2001 Impala was sitting in the driveway. It had not been driven for a few days and since the weather was cold, my husband wanted to make sure it would start. When he turned the key, there was an explosion in the injector system. Flames shot out and the system was blown apart. Fortunately, the car was not in our garage at the time and he was not injured. We called vermilion Chevrolet in danville, illinois and the person who answered said it was a defective fuel regulator that had caused the problem. He seemed to be aware of the problem. We had recently received a recall for possible under the hood fires, but he told us that was for a leaky valve cover gasket, not the fuel regulator. We have comprehensive insurance, but they are balking at covering the damage. We have not had any estimates on getting it repaired yet. We are still waiting on the insurance. Meanwhile we have a car we cannot drive. We did some research on the internet and it appears that this is a known defect, but that the 2001 models were not included in any recall. Why not? help!!.

I have to messing with cable cord on the battery to get the car to start. Just so happened today my alternator. Was on fire. The fire department had to cut all the wiring off that was connected to the battery just to stop the fire from burning .

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/04/2016

For awhile my car has been having starting problems, at random times it does not start and it takes ten minutes from the first time I turn the key to start. Recently it started shutting down (as far as dashboard functions and the motor kills) bounty for a brief moment as I am driving I noticed it does it whenever I used the turn signals and it also makes a buzzing type noise when I use the turn signals then it goes away. Now my car won¿t start at all, ive had my battery and alternator both tested and they both came back fine.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/30/2016

My car is trying to kill me. At a complete stop when I hit the gas the traction control comes on. My dash says service stabilitrak , traction control and abs. I must turn off the traction control to drive my vehicle. With all that, if I drive up hill it turns the traction control on, the abs and traction control light up and the lights stay on. When the car is restarted all the lights go away. Twice I was pulling onto the highway from a stop. That situation happened and my car didnt move. Luckily the car was able to move or else I would have severly injured. This happens with my vehicle daily. I took my car in because my alternator failed. I told the dealership about a TSB for the issue and they did nothing. It also happens a lot if im accelerating while turning a corner. The dash lights up like christmas lights.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Security passlock not allowing car to start. Fuel regulator faulty not getting fuel to start car. Once I get vehicle started I can cut car off and try to restart, car will not start. Issue needs to be resloved.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/24/2015

The vehicle was in motion about 45 miles an hr when it began to suddenly lose speed once it stopped I was able to coast it to the light. I cut the car off an it started back up. I didn't understand why it did that so I proceeded to find a near gas station. . It started to run again and I proceeded to go home when it did it again (lost speed while the engine was running) still don't know what the problem is had the alternator and battery checked and both are fine. . This was very dangerous!.

14 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/19/2015

The only recall I was able to find out was for the ignition,. My transmission just went out 11/19/2015, it will not switch into gear, it starts just fine no check engine light but left me stranded. Turned the car off and when I started it again it drove just fine, so I slowly drove it home. I don't get on the highway no more because it lacks power the get up is not there mind you yes I have 225k miles on it but I have had about 10 trouble codes and I managed to get rid of them all when I cleaned the tps, aic, and map sensor new egr valve, oil change tune up transmission flush all has been done this year and still on the highway it struggles, I did have one code that popped up 0420 so at this point I have been thinkin to just replace the catalytic converter when I get my taxes, but the problem is just getting worse and worse, so then I am thinking its the fuel pump, I mean my alternator is fine, I know I am sick of the security light always coming on, my left blinker only works in the day time at night never which is the weirdest thing, my windshield blades only work on the fastest setting, in the winter when it rains or snows my doors when we get inside to lock them the lock and unlock and the panel says door ajar when there is no door ajar,it will drive just fine as it nothing was ever wrong. Inconsistent and whats even weird is now the check engine light wont even come on after my transmission failed me in the middle of the road you would think the computer was able to record something. Once tranny fixd I will get the ignition recall fixed originally a loud noise was coming from engine like a screeching noise so I figured it was the alternator now that noise is gone but the minute I felt it wasn't the tranny, my car at the light would not go at all until I turned it off and back on. Please help me.

15 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

Head lights will not turn on, blinkers will not turn on, traction control turns itself of and you cannot turn it back on. The following dash lights illuminate. Check engine, battery and abs. This has been happening for about a year on and off. Started at about 80,000 miles. Sometimes only one of the above conditions occur and sometimes all at once. Problems happen day and night, damp or dry, usually only occur during engine start up, but occasionally has occurred while driving. I found a trick to make the head lights come on (turning on and off my hazard lights). My fog lights are not affected by these issues. I have had the battery and alternator tested multiple times because that is the direction everyone points me too. Both are good. I see others having the same issues. I hope this gets look into.

16 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/16/2012

For the past 2-3 years the security light will come on and flash about 10 minutes. During that time I have to sit with the key in the ignition and the ignition switched back until the security light stops, which then the care will start. About a month ago same constant problem except now after the security light stops flashing car won't start at all. I've gotten new battery and had alternator checked and both are good. The security pass code dealing with the keys or some mess I was told which will cost $500. -$600. Omg!!!!! really. Is there a recall or something for this. GMC please do better. Last american made car that I will purchase.

17 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/10/2012

Service battery charging system is showing on dashboard. Battery and alternator have been replaced and it still appears on dashboard. I dont know what else to do.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/04/2012

When to start car and would not start. Lights and radio would come on. Had a new battery put in and the alternator checked. 2 weeks later when to pick up niece from the baby sitter, was inside for 3 minutes came back out car would not start again. After 45 minutes of trying to start it finally started. Yesterday, went out to my car to drive to a meeting and once again it would not start. About 40 minutes later I went back out to try it again and it started right up. I did research online and found several complaints. Apparently this is a pass code issue. I do not feel I should have to go and get all this work done when there is no real solution. The code will not always come up so nobody knows what exactly is wrong with the car. In summary, the security system thinks that I am trying to steel my own car. This has left me stranded in the cold 3 different times. I am a 25 year old lady. That is totally unsafe and as there is no real solution to the problem that anyone can find how and I supposed to get it fixed. I have a child on the way. This is not the only year that does it either. All Impalas have this issue from the years 2003-2005. How can a recall not be issued. I called chevy and they basically said to go to a dealer but that is not an acceptable answer when I read that several people have spent thousands of dollars at their dealer on the same issue and are still having issues. . 19 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/12/2011

Whenever it is raining or I drive through a puddle of water on the ground, the steering wheel locks up for about 10-15 seconds and the car seems to lose power. I've concluded that this must be some sort of serpentine belt issue as a lot of components are affected at once such as alternator, power steering etc. This is extremely dangerous in my opinion as onset is unpredictable especially in hazardous conditions such as raining and for this reason I dread driving my car when it rains. Please someone acknowledge this as a legitimate concern!!!.

20 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

For the third time a power window "regulator cable" has broken in my car, twice in the driver door (9/29/04 and 5/15/11) and once in the passenger door (09/15/09), each time while driving the vehicle on a street or highway. Nothing noticeable before windows dropped. Had to drive it to a dealer (once for several hundred miles). Cost of repairs were as high as $433. I have owned this car since 11/2001.

21 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/09/2010

Have had a instrument panel cluster I have dealt with for along time why? the car will not start at times due to the malfunctioning security system, wait ten minutes and hope it starts, come on american made g. M. Stand up to your ownings. Now fuel pressure regulator is leaking, have heard of numerous after market recalls not g. M. Related parts once again own up to your product, especially when it concerns life and death of people especially children, for what money? profit? somebody with some power over these issues do something please.

22 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

2003 chevy Impala will not start. The dealership states it is a bcm problem. The remote installed on the car fob does not work and has never worked. Doors will not lock and the trunk will spring open when traveling down the road. Since the doors and trunk do not lock, there is no security on this vehicle. And again the car will not start. I have replaced the battery and alternator and the car still does not start.

23 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

My 2003 Impala will occasionally not start. Had batter, alt and generator checked all ok. After sitting about 10 minutes car starts fine. Seems it's the passlock system and is a known problem to gm. A recall should be made.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/25/2010

I purchased the vehicle used from another dealer in 2003. I started experiencing problems with the security system in November 2005, it would not start sometimes light would flash and after 20 minutes it starts. The problem went away until last November, and then it would do it about 2-3x a week. In February 2009 I had to replace my lower intake manifold gasket, water pump and battery. The summer 09 I had to replace the radiator due to a hairline crack in it. The security system starts to intermittently not start the vehicle again in late Sep. 09 about 2-3x per week. In Jan. 2010 the vehicle doesn't start for me one day after coming out of the grocery store for 25 minutes. Since then it does it every morning when I go to take my child to school and I have to wait 10-20 minutes. I took the vehicle to the gm dealer and was told they weren't familiar with this problem and I needed $950 for parts and labor to replace the ignition switch and the bcm. I had the ignition switch replaced by another mechanic and that was not the problem and the vehicle is still doing the same thing. It's frustrating for me and my child. It's scary and dangerous. I'm so afraid that one day or night it may not start and I'm stranded in the streets and may be subjected to a crime or death. I don't drive it at night unless it's an extreme emergency now and this is such an inconvenience. I have to pay for rides at times to get my child to and from school when this car decides not to start so my child won't be late for school or getting picked up from school. I've also had to replace my windshield wiper motor and my driver's side door window regulator.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/07/2010

Security light intermittently coming on. Vehicle will not start for 10 minutes after initial attempt to drive. Transmission kicks terribly when attempting to accelerate. Brake light, battery light, and airbag light intermittently flash when braking. Alternator and battery check fine at service. All signs point to bcm and gauge cluster.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/07/2009

Problem starting 2001 chevy Impala in extremely warm weather. All lights on dashboard light up and car will not start. Replaced the battery the first time it happened in fall. Replaced the alternator. Replaced the wires to the battery. Researched and found that it was the passlock security system, for which numerous people are having similar problems. Have been stuck at work parking lot in evening, at gas station after filling up and other locations, usually when I'm alone. Will not allow my son or daughter to drive vehicle. Definitely a safety issue.

27 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/11/2008

My wife was driving home from work when the engine stopped running and caused her to have to pull off the road. It took several minutes before car would restart. Since the first time she had this happen at least 3 times a year since. I've driven the car several times after she has told me it happened again and had our mechanic look at it also. Also have had the instrument panel gauges not working properly for 2 years now and haven't been able to figure out why, we think there is a short somewhere in the electrical system but have not been able to pin point it. The chrome plate aluminum alloy rims the chrome has been flaking off since the car was 2 years old and we now have to keep refilling the tires with air at least once a week. Have gone to the dealer a couple of times but get a run around that its not a problem with the car. I have talked to a gentleman who also has the only other 2004 Impala ss in our town and he has the same problems as we have had and gotten same response from our local dealer where we both bought our cars from. My Impala ss at this time has just over 80,000 miles on it and in addition to problems mentioned above we had to have power steering pump, rack in pinion and alternator replaced and looking like the rack in pinion is going out again as I write this. I've become very disappointed with Chevrolet over this car.

28 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/16/2008

On a 2002 Chevrolet Impala, the security light comes on while driving. Following this event various electrical abnormalities occur. Dashboard warning lights all flash together, dash goes dark. Sometimes when you start the car the security light comes on and the headlights flash as if they were icc flashers. There are numerous complaints about this on the internet. Chevrolet doesn't seem to have any finite fix for this and randomly replaces the bcm and ignition switch as possible causes. Most people report having the exact same problem over again several days later??? due to this erroneous reporting I thought I had a battery problem and the garage changed my alternator. At a cost of $306 dollars. Which I now believe was totally un-necessary.

29 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/17/2007

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Impala. When the contact's wife attempted to start the vehicle before jumping the dead battery, the fuel system bypassed through a regulator and created an explosion. Although the vehicle caught fire, it was not destroyed and was capable of being repaired. The dealer stated that nothing could be done because the VIN was not included in the recall. The purchase date and recall number were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 131,000.

30 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

The speedometer started getting stuck about six months ago. For about eight months I have noticed that when I turn the steering wheel I hear a noise in the front of the car, like a knock or something. Also within the last couple of months I have also smelled gas when I first start the car , my husband could not see any leakage or anything until last week. It was leaking from the fuel regulator valve. Now the transmission is starting to shift hard sometimes. I haven't had the money to get it all checked out by the manufacturer but I was wondering if there have been any complaints on any of these things. Also I can hear a whistling sound when I press the accelerator. And my husband just informed me that he bought a regulator valve for it and some o rings because something is leaking antifreeze slightly. Can you help please!!!!!!!!.

31 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/21/2006

Car would not start. Thought it was the battery or possibly the alternator, but it turned out to be a failed body control module (bcm). Our car had only 46,000 miles when this occurred. There should be an official recall on the bcm given the numerous bulletins and complaints concerning the bcm before someone's loses his or her life as a direct or indirect result of its failure.

32 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/22/2005

Engine shuts down for no apparent reason. Almost like someone turned the ignition switch off. I purchased this 2000 chev. Impala LS in may 2005. On may 30, the engine coughed once but continued running smoothly, so I didn't consider it a problem. Then June 29 it coughed again but continued running smoothly. That evening on the way home from work with no warning, the engine just quit running. After it sat on the side of the road for a few minutes, I was able to start it and continue on my drive home. Since then, between July 5 and August 10, the engine shut down 7 times. 3 of those were on August 10. Each time, after a few minutes, I was able to restart it. I took it to a dealer for repair(power Chevrolet, irvine, CA),on August 12, after a short diagnosis, the complaint was signed off as" road test 5 miles unable to duplicate customer concern. Throttle body dirty, cleaned throttle body" since there had been a recall on a fuel pressure regulator the service rep. Had it replaced. I didn't receive the old regulator, but it didn't cure the problem of the engine shutting down for no apparent reason, because on August 22 it did it again (twice). Someone at gm needs to determine the cause of this problem and inform the service personnel of the fix. An inexperienced driver could be in real trouble if this happened.

33 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/13/2002

Customer states dash lights and headlights are dim, especially when driving at night. Dealer test drove and found that the lights flicker, however dealer stated this was normal due to the drop in the voltage regulator, and should not cause lights or electrical system to fail.

34 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/01/2002

My 2002 chevy Impala LS has had a problem, since buying it in may 2002, with the headlights dimming to the point of cutoff then coming back to full intensity in a rapid fashion. I have had the alternator, battery, belts, cables/wires checked but to no avail. I do notice that if I accelerate sharply, over 3000 rpm, the problem goes away for a while, suggesting there is a charging problem. This problem is intermittent, but is increasing in frenquency as my odo reaches 23,000 miles.

35 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/22/1999

Alternator suddently stopped working. Dash board light doesn't allow consumer to see the speed. He doesn't know how fast he is going. Also, when applying brake and gas pedals headlights go dim. When he releases gas and brake pedals, headlights are full force.
