1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Impala. When making a left turn, the abs, traction control, service brake assist, service traction control, and service stabilitrak indicators illuminated. In addition, an abnormal grinding sound was heard. Once the vehicle was shut off and restarted, all of the messages and warning indicators turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the speed control sensor in the front driver's side wheel bearing was faulty. The entire wheel bearing was replaced, but the failures continued. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for the failure. Jack mcnerney Chevrolet (363 NY-281, tully, NY 13159, (315) 238-5110) was contacted and wanted to charge the contact over $100 to perform the same diagnostic test as the independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 35,000.

3 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Frequently, the abs activates the brakes while in motion and no pressure is placed on the brake pedal. Usually the abs light and traction control turn on afterwards and indicate they are now disabled. Sometimes the lights turn on when the engine is started. The dealer said the speed sensor was defective, so they were replaced twice, but this did not fix the problem. This portable had been ongoing for over 6 months.

4 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

I have been experiencing a traction control problem. When I make sharp turns the service traction system light comes on, after this light comes on it pulls to the right and makes it hard to stop and even slides sometimes. I have replaced all speed sensors and replaced the wires and the problem is still reoccuring.

5 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/25/2015

Grinding noise from front and abs engages the brakes and low traction light flashes on when accelerating from a stop and turning left at the same time, does not matter if you accelerate slow or fast and this is happening on dry pavement. If I turn off the traction control it will not do it, so I assume the problem must exist in a speed sensor or something with the traction control sensors or wiring. Of course mechanics cannot duplicate this. Waiting for gm to step up to the plate and fix.

6 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 5 mph, the service traction control, service brakes, abs, and stability warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the brakes made a grinding noise when the brake pedal was depressed. The failures occurred several times. The dealer stated that the front driver side wheel sensor wire harness and the front passenger side wheel bearing needed to be replaced. The passenger side wheel bearing was replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.

7 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

We bought this car with approximately 98,000 miles - gas gauge hasn't worked from beginning. Back in may had wheel bearings changed and ever since abs comes on constantly while applying brake and slowing down. Abs light comes on at times. Abs will kick in about 3 times after applying brakes. Nephew scanned it to see codes and they were: c1221 lf wheel speed sensor input signal is 0 c1222 rf wheel speed sensor input signal is 0. Is there a recall for this issue???.

8 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

The traction control, stability track and abs lights all came on. The engine power reduced light came on and engine power was lower. I had the left speed sensor replaced and the accelerator sensor replace on August 8th after the dealership had fixed this problem in April and again in June. I was told they changed sensors then also, but I am not sure of which ones at that time. I am now having the same problem for the forth time. Replacing the sensors every few months is getting expensive. Also not very safe. I contacted gm and the woman told me to take it back to the dealership to be fixed again. I have fixed the same issue three times already. They were of no help at all.

9 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

Dec 2013 vehicle hit pot hole while braking at approaching intersection, after that warning lights started flashing abs brakes/tract control/stab control, I was unable to brake, then shut down. Since then temp gauge went bad n was replaced. The 3 above dash warning lights continued intermittently, worse when it rained. At take offs n turns car would jar n abs brake system would pulsate(grabs). Hub/speed sensor was replaced, this did not help. Accessory outlets, when contained w a charger, doesn't maintain contact w power source (such as disconnection/loose connection), causing power surge resulting in 2 iphones to have bad aux ports. May 2014 blower motor started intermittently not working for seconds, then minutes until today sept 6th, 2014 when something under-dash (near blower motor) overheated filling car with smoke, then car shut down while moving once again, car smells awful from the burning! car has been a lemon and not covered under power train! seems like auxiliary elect fuse box(passenger rt foot board), and harness is shot as well as whichever harness is sending power to speed sensor, among many other things I could not mention (problems/defects) due to so many other issues w this 2011 Impala which is now worth 7000 as trade at chevy, I paid 13500 on oct14, 2014! I've checked several ground connects n they seem okay.

10 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

The antilock braking system started malfunctioning at about 89000 miles. It appeared to be a faulty wheel hub. After replacing the passenger side front, it went away for about 3 days. Then it was the driver's side front that needed replaced. (both threw out codes for excessive wheel speed variation, as wheel as wheel speed sensor output 0. ) two weeks to the day after replacing the passenger side front, it "went bad" again. We changed it again, just to be sure, and at this point, it appears to be in the wiring harness. After inspecting everything within about 2 feet of the wheels, it looks like it's farther up the line. The abs unit will cycle a few times before the abs light kicks on to say there's a problem. Until this happens (once the light is on, the abs system stops kicking in) braking is almost unresponsive, and at best, intermittent. From everything we can tell, this is a serious and all too common problem with these cars. Again, I believe the problem is either farther up the harness, or where it splices into the rest of the harness. Neither of which can be accessed without taking off pretty much the front of the car. I should also ad that this vehicle only has 4 wheel anti-lock brakes, not the additional traction control unit.

11 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

For several months now, more often when slippery winter conditions exist but this can happen even on perfectly dry road conditions. When I back out of my driveway and put my Impala into drive and start to accelerate the dashboard warning light for traction control and abs braking systems. This happens with a noticably loud grinding noise in the front end. Automatically I release the accelerator and the systems half the time seems to reset itself as the grinding noise stops, the traction control light goes out and the abs warning light goes out as well. I begin to accelerate with no problem at that point. The other half of the time the lights all stay on for the length of my drive, with the grinding subsiding when I release the accelerator. I took the car to a Chevrolet dealer, explained the situation and they told me it may be a speed sensor going bad. They would have to diganoise it and possibily replace the sensor and quite a large cost. I argued that if my brakes are not working properly than this may well be a safety issue and Chevrolet should repair the problem for free. No chance. I took my car to another dealer with the same result. Pay for the repair.

12 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/17/2012

I have not had an incidence but very concerned about the malfunction that is going on with my vehicle at this time. . I noticed a scrubbing/grumbling noise when I would turn the wheel either way left or right. After vehicle being put on machine for testing it was discovered that the upper strut mounts and bearing were worn and noisy on front struts. . . . . . Also my abs and traction control light both came on at the same time and would not go off, the information system in vehicle recommended brakes be service. . . . . The results from car being tested showed both front hubs have slack and both front wheel speed sensor harness are coming apart inside wire installation. The codes for abs/traction control is. . . C0040 00. C0040.

13 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/21/2012

Anti-locking braking system, traction control, and vsa light comes on under normal driving conditions. Anti-lock system engages and pulsates when the brakes are applied at various speeds and also the vehicle doesn't' accelerate if depressing the accelerator. This could or will cause a serious accident if the system is not fixed immediately. Suspect the wheel speed sensor which is built into the wheel hub. I am requesting this issue be repaired and the factory expense since this is a safety issue and a very well know documented case.

14 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Intermittent warning "service traction system" which shut off both the traction system and the four wheel abs system (the safety issue). Regular braking still worked. Diagnosed at the shop as a faulty right rear wheel speed sensor, and the fault has apparently been corrected.

15 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/12/2005

- I have a 2001 Impala LS 3. 8l with traction control - service traction control light came on. Abs brakes would engage when making a right hand turn (loose or tight turn) and when acceleration from a stop. There was no reason for the abs to engage when making these turns, road conditions were perfect. - I took the car to the shop and they said the speed sensor has failed due to environmental conditions (please reference NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 for a recall on gm pickup trucks and SUV's). My car is not covered under this campaign but the problem describe in the campaign is exactly what has failed in my situation. - the shop replaced the right front hub bearing and wiring harness using hub kit 6. 307 and sensor kit 4. 720 -problem was fixed - I would like to know why cars are not covered under the capaign like trucks and SUV's that have the same speed sensor.
