36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/19/2017

Vehicle was in motion in the middle of a very busy intersection, thank god it was at night. The car started violently shaking and the display put up the warning "low engine power" and "service traction control". Has happened numerous times before when the car was parked but never while driving. Check engine light comes on for a little bit but then usually goes away after a day or so.

37 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/22/2017

While driving the traction control light came on as well as the check engine light then reduced power so that I was driving at about 5 miles in traffic. Car then stopped and there was no power at all. I put on my hazard lights and turned the car off waited a few minutes and it started and only check engine light remained on. I was fortunate to be almost at a red light when this happened in midtown manhattan so that there was only blaring horns when I couldn't move the car. My mechanic said I need to bring the car in when the lights are on so that he can read the error messages. The check engine light doesn't give him enough information. I haven't driven since as I'm afraid but will drive locally and bring the car to the mechanic as soon as those lights come on again. It has happened before but not when I could bring it to the mechanic.

38 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/08/2017

For the last two days, I have driven my vehicle. Every time I would drive over 40 mph, the engine would lock up. The vehicle would jerk and shake back and forth. The car would do this every time I went over 40 mph, no matter if I was driving on a highway or road or coming to a stop at a red traffic light. Whenever this happened, the check engine light and the traction control light would stay on. This problem started weeks after I had an auto accident.

39 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/08/2017

For the last two days, I have driven my vehicle. Every time I would drive over 40 mph, the engine would lock up. The vehicle would jerk back and forth. The car would do this every time I would try and drive over 40 mph, no matter the roadway or stop at an intersection. Whenever this happened, the check engine light would stay on. A month before this problem started, my father had been driving the car and had an auto accident.

40 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

I would like to place a complaint about my 2016 chevy Impala ltz that I purchased from car max in glencoe, IL on November 11 2016. I am a frequent traveler to central michigan and on my return trip to chicago on January 6, 2017, I was traveling south on highway 127 just south of mt. Pleasant michigan when all of sudden, the car lost power and it slowed down rapidly, there was a car behind me who almost rear-ended me, my wife and I were terrified. I pulled over to the side of the highway and put on my flashers. I looked at the dash and the following error lights were on (service engine soon, check engine light, reduced engine power, and stablitrack light). I looked at the owner's manual and it suggested that I turn the vehicle off and that it would reset. I followed instructions, turned on vehicle and all lights were cleared except check engine light. I got back on the highway and started to drive towards graff Chevrolet in mt. Pleasant. In route, it happened again. Car lost power again, and all previous lights returned. I somehow made it to the dealership. Please see attached invoice, customer number 213805 for work done. From what I see, all that was done was all codes were cleared. I did some research on the internet and it seems to have happened to other chevy owners. I think that it's extremely dangerous and my wife and I now literally afraid to drive this car. What is being done to address this problem, in my opinion, these types of errors should not be happening to a one year old car.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 12/16/2016

While driving my Impala, with no warning, my car lost power. The dash beeped at me and said reduced engine power, service stalinktrak, service traction control. I had to turn my car off, I waited a few minutes then turned car back on. The car was able to run and drive after this, but my check engine light was on. I had vehicle computer scanned and had a code for throttle position sensor. After further research, I have learned I will need to replace the whole throttle body. My car has now lost power several times and my rpm gauge 'bounces'. I will be parking my car until the part comes in. This was very dangerous as you lose all power with no warning going down the expressway.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 10/30/2016

My car's engine power was severely reduced suddenly when I was driving on interstate highway 275 north in tampa, FL. A message showed on the dash: " reduced engine power, service traction control" and the check engine light was on. This happened today around 7 pm on oct 30, 2016. My car is a chevy Impala 2009. I searched online and found thousands of messages about the same error message of reduced engine power on many models of gm cars including Impala, malibu, trailblazer, silverado. This worries me very much as so many same error messages and engine problems happened on so many gm cars. My research shows that gm has done nothing to resolve this problem yet. So this irresponsibility of gm on this specific issue put the lives of hundreds of thousands of drivers in danger. I hope NHTSA looks into this problem and pressure gm to issue a recall if possible to take care of this serious problem. Thank you!.

43 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/19/2016

The check engine light comes on and it says service stabilitrak reduced power engine. Then the car slows, it may jerk, or stall. This has been an ongoing issue. I've taken it to be looked at least 2 or 3 times. I've been told they don't see anything and I should bring the car in to get serviced the light comes on. It usually last a few days but it will come back on. I've also received a letter from Chevrolet about fixing it but when I took it to get serviced I was told that it had to be under a certain amount of miles. This is a safety hazard and could cause a potential car accident or even death if traveling at high speeds and then all of a sudden your car engine reduces power. I know this because I've almost been in an accident twice due to this issue.

44 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/05/2016

Major safety issue! while driving on the expressway hours from home reduced engine power/service traction control/check engine lights came on. Cruise control disabled as well. Car stopped on the expressway, steering wheel locked up. Luckily we were able to coast to the side otherwise this could have been a disaster! vehicle was towed to a nearby service station where it is currently located. There are several complaints out there like this. Gm needs to recall and fix this problem!.

45 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/04/2016

Car is currently at 134k miles and just gave me a "reduced power engine", "check traction control", and a check engine light. I googled around and came across a lot of chevy Impalas around the same year (07-10) are having the same problem. It seems to be something with the "accelerator pedal positioner pedal sensor. Also reading into it, it claims that this problem can cause the car to suddenly stop from 60mph all the way down to 20 or zero. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be looked into before someone is hurt or killed.

47 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Reduced engine power appeared followed by check traction control. Then symbol for check traction control and engine completely in passing lane on interstate 80. 48 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/12/2016

While driving the check engine light and traction control light comes on and reduce engine power reads across the screen. Car slows to 45 miles an hour and turns off. I have had the throttle replaced and the throttle body replaced. The problem still on going. . . . ?.

49 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Got a message on my dash a few months ago about "service traction control" while driving. Traction control light lit up also. Parked car and turned car off then on. . . Message gone. Took it into service. . . Showed no error codes. Today (5/2/16), it did it again with the traction control light and the check engine light simultaneously lighting up. "service stabilitrak", service traction control", and "engine power is recuded" are the messages I got today along with the check engine light and the traction control light being on. I had just gotten off the highway so I wasn't going fast when this happened. I was close to work so I parked it at work. Turned the car off then on again and the messages were gone and traction control light was off but check engine light stayed on. Turned car on again at lunch 1. 5 hours later and the check engine light is off now so I doubt anyone will be able to diagnose or fix anything today. Taking it to service to see if it threw any error codes a little later today. I've researched this issue and found that this has happened to a lot of people while on the highway. If it happens to me and I'm in an accident because of this, I will sue the s**t out of gm. I have two small children and if any of us gets hurt or killed, there will be h**l to pay. This issue should absolutely be recalled. It is not due to my key/ignition issue. Already handled that recall. Losing power in the middle of the highway randomly is absolutely dangerous and I'm now very afraid to drive this vehicle. Will never buy another Impala again.

This could be deadly. This has happened alot.

51 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala

Car would not accelerate. Turned off, touched brake a couple times, sat a few mins, restarted, ck engine light still on, but engine power warning not on, was able to get into moving traffic and took to dealier 4/27 apprx 7pm, with gm rental given to me. As of 1:12pm, no call yet, not sure what the issue is, but could have been fatal!!!! bad, bad bad!!! took a pic, blurry though, frightening! told dealer of sudden surges, but intake rep said it would all be related and didnt write it down.

52 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/06/2016

I begin noticing issues when taking off from a complete stop where the vehicle would lunge forward like it couldn't shift into first gear. I had that checked and nothing showed as an issue, so the mechanic said it had to be electrical. This weekend I am driving it and after 25 minutes in the car the check engine light comes on, as does the notice that my engine power has been reduced, and to service the stability traction control system. I was coming to a stop light when it came on and I pulled off to turn off the car and restart it as that would work when it failed before to reset the system. It didn't reset and I had to drive it with reduced power the rest of the way to my destination. I had this fixed a couple years ago. I did get a notice from gm about the issue and the ability to be reimbursed or getting it fixed if there was a current issue and I was able to get reimbursed for it. Now it is happening again, but my mileage is too high to get it fixed under this repair notice because the letter says that the mileage coverage is only up to 120,000. If this is a known issue and I have already dealt with it before, why should I have to pay for it to continually fail when it has nothing to do with normal wear and tear, which I would have no issue fixing as a part of maintaining the vehicle?! this should be something that gm would fix every time it goes out because it is clear the issue is a malfunction of the overall system and not linked to anything that the driver does or doesn't do to maintain the vehicle properly. In addition what if it has to be replaced multiple times as is the case with mine. I have always been a devoted gm customer, but honestly I am not sure I will ever buy another gm after this issue. It is unsafe and provides anxiety when driving, because it might fail at the worst time and could need fixed again even if I fix it this time.

53 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

Service traction control and check engine lights came on this morning. Then a message saying my engine power is reducing. I just bought this car 3 weeks ago. I called gm customer service and they told me there was nothing they could do, even though there was a recall regarding this because it was over the 120000 mile warranty (but I just bought this car 3 weeks ago!!!).

61 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I was driving on the highway and all of the sudden check engine light and traction control light come on. Warnings service traction control and reduced engine power are displayed and all but shuts my car off in the middle of the highway causing cars to slam on their brakes and swerve barely missing me. I get over to the side of the road and turn the car off. Then turn the car back on same messages and won't go no where. Do the same thing again only waiting longer and no messages but check engine light still on. I drive home. Next day no warnings or lights. Couple weeks go by does the whole warnings and lights and slows car down again but doesn't completely shut it down. I was in regular street traffic this time about 35mph. And now it's more frequent sometimes a couple times a day to once every day or two. This needs to be looked at. I'm reading about this problem on a lot of Impalas causing major problems and wrecks.

62 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/02/2015

Driving on interstate vehicle suddenly lost all power and would not accelerate & quickly decelerated with any prior warning. 18 wheeler almost rear ended me. Instrument panel displayed “engine power reduced”, “service traction control,” “service stabilitrak”, and “check engine light. ” finally exited interstate safely and shut down engine thinking it was going to blow up and after 2-3 tries to restart messages disappeared and vehicle seemed to be ok. Took vehicle to mechanic & found codes evidencing the loss of communication between the tac and or the app units causing vehicle to go into limp mode but could not get the condition to reoccur. Mechanic had to remove codes to permit to duplicate problem, could not duplicate and told me to wait until reoccurred. While looking for repair shop was scared it would happen again received letter from gm stating if the above condition had occurred they would fix. Called gm dealer mentioned letter they refused to repair unless the messages were present on panel, refused to look at the vehicle. Called gm customer service referencing letter, explained gm dealer refused to repair. Was told by angela issue was safety related problem but gm would not admit to safety issue. Gm agreed to pay for one hour of diagnostic time to determine if vehicle qualified for repair, dealer was unable to duplicate problem, refused to repair. Called gm and was told no repair would be made even though the problem had occurred as stated in the letter and to wait until situation occured again then not to start engine and tow to gm dealer. Was told gm would not pay for tow or inconvenience and if they could see codes they might repair problem. This is definitely a safety issue since when this occurs the vehicle loses all power and basically shuts down and will not accelerate beyond 5 mph if at all. Leo nelson 937-554-9778 noslenlsn@gmail. Had purchased vehicle from dealer in ashland va back in September 2014. Had no concerns about the vehicle until first trip not driving vehicle for a week and upon return vehicle would not start. Had jumped started vehicle and got check engine light which was on for three days then cut off. In February 2015 had not driven vehicle for two week period and upon return vehicle would not start again. Checked battery and had replaced along with cleaning positive battery post for corrosion. Check engine light was on for two to three days then cut off - check code at firestone dealership showed code p2135 - dealership could not determine where possible power drainage could be coming from and recommended to take vehicle to chevy dealership and have them test for power drainage. As long as the vehicle is started/used without prolonged period of inactivity, vehicle operation for this model year is acceptable.
