My family and I were traveling from newark, NJ from the July 4th holiday back home to raleigh nc on 95 south in virginia and going at a speed of 72mph approx. And the car/engine just turned off at that rate of speed with 2 children in the back seat of the vehicle. After we sat on the side of the road for about 45min the vehicle proceeded to start and we made it home to nc. The following business day after the holiday I took it to my mechanic giao auto located on capital blvd in raleigh nc and he could not determine why the vehicle shut off the way it did. So I continued to drive just with precaution. I received a letter on 8/21/2014 regarding the recall and was livid because this has happened to my family while driving on the interstate! I believe that this may happen to my family again and do not want to risk this, so I would like to know what can be done to ensure that my children have a safe vehicle.

Goodmorning I just would like to say this is my second vehicle from chevy but this vehical has really placed me in a bad bind. First the airbag light comes on and off for the passed month, next the key becomes stuck in the ignition then it went out had to replace that. Traction control light comeson comes over board with message saying," engine power is reduced then message states car shuting down " in the middle of driving . This last time I had my new born grandbaby in the car driving on expressway going 60speed limit car just shut offcars flying pass me I was really terrified for my safty and my grand child. This has occured off and on since last year. Last yeat I had taken it back to all star chevy in miss. They stated they couldn't find anything cost me a good penny when they stated that the warrenty was out. Now the car will not start. I have been replacing alot of electrical issues with this car for the last year but this time is the last time my grand baby and myself could have lost our life" now no car to get back and forth to work I have been really patient with chevy with this car I still have all my reciepts from aaa fixing this car I refused to spend any more money on this car. I need toknow if this compay will help me because a 2010 should not have this much problem.

I was driving on the highway during rush hour traffic going approximately 65 per hour and the service traction control came on and then said that engine power was reduced. It also had the engine light come on and stayed on all the way home. I then got home safely that time and shut off the car about 20 minutes later went out and all lights had gone off and was back to normal. This has happened at least a dozen times since then. Then on 6/29/15 this happened again on the highway during rush hour traffic. However this time the car said throttle disabled and the car shut off completely in the middle of the highway and I had to try and get to the side of the road without incident. After about 10 or 15 minutes the car then started back up and the lights went out and I was able to drive again. Then later in the day I returned home and tried to leave in my car and it would not start and had no power what so ever. The key also would not come out of the ignition and I just had that recall dealt with on the key. I could have been seriously injured in this last incident. This needs to be recalled and gm needs to pay for what I am out of pocket because I now had to get a rental car to work. I have read pages upon pages of complaints just like mine, which is ridiculous that this issue has not been fixed. Does it take someone getting injured or killed for gm to do something?.

The traction control light comes on, then you get a message saying the engine power is reduced. Then you get a message saying the car is shutting down. This has been happening every once in a while, but now it's a lot more frequent. This Saturday I was driving about 60 on a three lane highway with no shoulder/break down lane. The car shut off while I was going up a hill. Cars were flying up behind me and swerving to miss me. Normally it takes about 5 minutes and you can restart the car. This time it was almost 10 minutes. I had a panic attack sitting there. Once the car finally started I drove about 50 feet and it happened again. Luckily there was a dunkin donuts there and I coasted into the parking lot. I sat there about 20 minutes so I could catch my breath, stop crying and composed myself. When I went to the dealer about 6 months ago they said it was my gas pedal, and it was going to cost $164. However when you research this on the web, you will see most people who have the gas pedal fixed it happens again. There should really be a recall on this because someone will get into an accident and perhaps get killed.

The engine shut off after hitting a large bump in the road. The engine shut off a second time again after hitting a large bump in the road. The power steering and power brakes were both affected. The car restarted. The dealer looked at the car and couldn't duplicate the condition. The problem went away after I removed all the keys from the key-ring.

Driving to work and I got a display message that said some thing similar to "stabilitrack repair, engine power reduced" and then the car shut down. No power steering, nothing. I was finally able to stop, but I wasn't able to get off the road and it caused a potentially dangerous situation. I've read online this is a common issue with Impala's and something that is a design flaw, as the shutting down of the car is not needed. Had I been in traffic, a large car pile up would have resulted.

This vehicle has a push button engine shut off button. I went to a shopping mall and forgot to shut off the engine. When I returned approx. 1 hour later, the engine was still running. I am concerned should this happen when I park the auto in my closed garge which is located directly below a bedroom. The engine will be running all night and the bedroom will be filled with carbon monoxide resulting in death to the occupants. The vehicle needs a time delay shut off should the driver forget to shut off the engine. The time delay could be set by the manufacturer and should be approximately 15 to 20 minutes otherwise the engine will run forever.

I was driving my 2009 chevy Impala traveling at about 45-50 mph when the "reduce engine power" message came up followed by "check traction control". The car then became sluggish and slowed down to about 15-20 mph. It then shut off without warning and it seems as though the power steering went out. I had my daughter in the car with me and thank god traffic was light because with that happening it was an accident waiting to happen. I am concerned because it seems like this has been a common problem with this car for a few years and there has not been a recall yet. Is gm waiting for someone to die. No one seems to be able to pinpoint what the problem is and I don't think it's fair that someone has to pay money to fix what may be a problem. Something needs to be done because this is not safe at all. I see a lot of Impalas in my town and it's scary to think that at any time this can happen to any one of those cars, mine included, and seriously hurt or kill someone. Gm needs to step up and do the responsible thing for the people who invested their money in the gm brand.

While driving message reduced engine power is displayed along with throttle disabled message, engine shuts off, making vehicle difficult to steer. Left my wife stranded in middle of road. Car restarts after approx. 15 min and displays orange engine light. Took to webbs texaco in lakeland, FL and they say it has a bad ecm. Previously shut off at 70 mph on interstate.

Throttle disable light comes on and the engine shuts down, including steering. This has happened twice. The first time was January of 2014, speed was approximately 50 mph. We were able to steer the car into a neighborhood and after about 30-40 minutes, the engine started again. This happened again yesterday, in a much more dangerous situation. I was entering a highway with traffic travelling at and above posted speed of 70 mph. As I merged, the throttle disabled light flashed on and the engine immediately shut down. Luckily I was able to steer the car onto the shoulder. I truly feel my life was in danger. The vehicle started after about 30 minutes of me sitting on the very busy shoulder of this highway.

The service traction control light comes on and the engine power reduced messesge appears. The entire car shuts down and you can not accelerate. I was on the freeway and could have been hit from behind. I immediately put on my hazard lights and pulled off to the side of the road. This was the first time, happened again this month(March). Taking to chevy dealer for a diagnosis.

Driving on freeway when a reduced engine power light came on and the car shut off, luckily I was able to pull aside from big trucks, otherwise I would be struck by. No codes and no one knows what the problem is. As far as I know this is a major incident that someone can get hurt or loses life. I went online thru edmunds and saw a lots of complains about the same problem, but when I called the dealer they said nothing about a recall !! been a chevy customer for a long time. I have had numerous problems with my 2009 Impala. From the very beginning with only 100+ miles on it and the problems continue today. The dash will say reduced engine power and as I was going down the road at 55 miles an hour my car just shut off. I was able to get it to the side of the road and just sat there wondering what was going on. It wouldn't do anything, it was just completely off. I was about to call for aaa and tried one more time and it started. This happened again in November of 2013 as well and I was going 45 on a country rd. Again I was able to pull to the side and sat there and waited again. When this happens the car will do nothing. I have problems with my traction control, making a strange grinding type noise and bogs the car down from moving when I am trying to accelerate from a stop or trying to turn either left or right. I have had problems with my air bag lights coming on and telling me to service my air bags. It comes on and goes off and comes on and goes off. The dash light will come on and tell me to shut engine off now for low oil pressure, this has happened for 4 years, the car is 5 years old. This car was never a good car from the very day it came off the lot.

When the incident first occurred, the engine light came on and the dash read "service stabilitrak", "service traction control" and "engine power reduced". It seemed fine when I turned off the car and turned it back on. The next incident didn't happen until a while later, and then it wasn't that bad. A few months later, I was driving back on the highway and the same thing happened, except it said "starting disabled, service throttle" and the car shut off. I pulled over to the side and I was able to restart the car after waiting a few minutes. It was a scary experience. Eventually, leading up to today, my car got worse and worse, and eventually it just started turning off at stoplights with the message "starting disabled, service throttle". It starts with the other messages almost as soon as I turn on the car. The engine revs and the car sounds awful.

I was driving down a very busy street looking for a restaurant and my car made three dinging sounds indicating a issue. Before I even could read what was displaying on my information panel the car lost all power steering and engine power. Because I was traveling at about 55mph I could very luckily coast to a parking lot near by. After coasting to a parking spot I put the car in park and read the information panel, it read reduced engine power, service stabilitrak, and service throttle body. Because I know most american made cars are pure garbage I wont drive one without a ebdii scanner. After reading the ebdii scanner it showed a p0601 code, which indicates a pcm memory issue. After clearing the code it started right back up and drove for about 10 more minutes until I was at a parking lot on a steep grade. The 3 dings happened again and my engine shut off causing me to roll backwards about 10 feet almost into over vehicles. I have done some research on this and have come to found that this is a engineering fault caused by to much current flowing into the power control module, which creates a small hairline crack on the pcm onboard computer, with which many many other gm products have experienced. I feel a recall should be done on all gm products affected by this, this is very unsafe and I feel could lead to deaths. I am a 21 year old male who could control the vehicle with no power steering, imagine a student driver encountering this issue and not being able to maneuver the vehicle away from other drivers or even innocent pedestrians! I know for a fact this has happened to many other gm vehicle owners so does a body count have to stack up before a recall is issued by gm??.

Problem with starting has progress to a problem with the car shutting off during operation. Several times now the car has shut down with no warning and at different speeds. This causes a loss of control with the power steering and power brakes. I have been able to place the transmission in neutral and restart the car while moving. The last time it happened, I was making a right turn and merging into the flow of traffic. I had pressure on the steering wheel while trying to make the curve when I restarted the car. At this point, the power steering kicked in and I found myself swerving from the sudden snatch on the steering. We were lucky that we didn't cause an accident. If my wife had been at the controls I know it would have turn out bad! I see unlimited complains around this item. Do we have to wait on people to get injured or killed before the company is force to be responsible? if this was a foreign car company, the government would have already forced a recall.

I own a 2008 chevy Impala which has been having computer problems for 1 yr now. It reads out reduced engine power and the car wont go faster than 40 mph. Ive had it fixed but then comes right back up, one mechanic says to clean the throttle and another says its sensors. This is becoming quite a problem and nobody can fix it permanently. It is a serious saftey issue due to the fact that I transport grandchildren around and the car looses power out of nowhere,then just shuts down in the middle of traffic. I cant keep paying all this money for it to just happen over and over with no results. When is this going to be on the recall list? I went online to find out there are alot of other people having the same exact issue. Please help me? I cant afford to keep paying for this when its never actually been fixed. I have no problem paying to have my car fixed but I do when I have to pay over and over again and its still not fixed.

My car is having issues with the service traction control, engine power reduced and will shut down. This has happened to me over 5 times now. I can't even pick up speed after this happens. I was on the highway one time doing about 65 and the car just shut down, I was on an incline/ramp and an 18 wheeler was behind me and I could have been killed. I have taken the car into to get the codes ran but can not seem to get to the root cause. I am thinking about just giving the car back and having it go on my credit.

I own a 2010 Impala with what seems to be a wiring problem which causes a huge safety concern. When I google the problem to try and find out what is wrong it seems other people have had this same issue with the Impala. The problem causes the car to completely shut down while you are driving down the highway. If you are unable to make it to the side of the road before it shuts off, it just dies right there in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic. First the traction light will come on a couple of times and then your car will say something like shutting down, then it will just turn off. This is very scary. If other people have this problem, isn't it a matter that chevy should have to recall? I can't imagine this is something that happens to most cars, especially when it is only 3 years old. They seem to have a feature that shuts down the power if the car things it is losing control of the tires, but the problem is, the tires are fine but the sensor is messed up. I have read many posts complaining of this same issue. It can't be safe to have cars just shut down right in the middle of the highway. I was almost hit! my daughter was in the car. I was barley in the shoulder as it shut down right as I was pulling onto it.

My 2011 Impala is reading "service throttle. Reduce engine power" and then proceeds to shut down. Even after replacing accelerator pedal position sensor, vehicle is still reading same errors. This is very dangerous because there is no limitations to when the vehicle shuts off. After extensive research, a lot of people are having the exact same issue and Chevrolet hasn't attempted to do anything about it. Please help!.

We were on the turnpike going about 60mph when the engine light came on. The service light for traction control and service stabilitrak warnings came up on the dash. It also said reducing power to engine. The car slowed in speed and began shaking. Service throttle came up on dash also. We had no where to pull off. There is not much of a burm on this interstate and before we could get to a pull off area the car shut down in the road. We had to set there for 10 minutes before the car would restart so that we could get to a safer place. I had my children in the car in the middle of this road with tractor trailers swerving around me constantly. All I could do was pray no one would hit us. We even contacted 911 for assistance. Since this day we have had the same continuous problems. I will not travel on the interstates with this vehicle for fear of this happening again. There doesn't seem like there is any one particular thing that sets this off. But seems to be worsening. I feel this is a safety issue and should be taken care of by gm. From the chevy forums on the Impala it seems this a problem with their Impalas and they should have to repair this problem with no cost to the consumer before someone is killed.

While driving on the interstate, a message was displayed saying "service traction control" and "reduced engine power". I was using cruise control and it shut off after the messages were display and I was unable to stay at the speed limit or accelerate quickly if needed. In another incident, I was driving and the two messages displayed and a few minutes later the engine shut off completely. The power steering was not working and the engine was not responding. The only way to get the car running again was to shut it off and wait several minutes until it would start again.

I had just turned onto this road, had not even gone a mile. No speed, no black marks, car shut down ran off the road and hit a tree stump. Total the car. The steering wheel was bent almost in half. I have pictures of the car. I got this car new, so all miles we're put on it by me. I broke my hip, back, knee, dislocated my elbow, crushed my ankle and foot. Had a head injury, a deflated lung. I was in the hospital for two months and a nursing home for a month. I have had 14 surgeries. Still not able to work or do a lot of things for my self. With the recalls showing the issues of the engine shutting off, I need this looked into.

I was driving one night to my friends house about 10 - 15 miles away from my house. As I was driving my car just shut off and my steering wheel locked up, so I drifted to the side of the road and tried to start my car up. I started it about 3 more times then it finally came back on, as I kept driving down the road it happened yet again. Our company owns a 2008 chevy Impala that will shut off for no reason. Sometimes, after the driver puts the car into 'drive' or 'reverse' from park the engine rpms surge, the radio gets louder and the car shuts off. It has surged and then died while going down the road at 50+ miles per hour. It has died while in drive but stopped a stop light/sign. The driver has to put the car back into park and the car starts. This has happened numerous times and the local dealership has not been able to fix it. It is a serious hazard.

The contact husband was injured, neck and back. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was diagnoses was unknown. The vehicle had not been repaired at this time. My 2003 Impala cuts off at low speed high speed and while in idle the car has been to the dealership for repairs they cannot answer what is wrong with the car, but I keep getting billed for them to diagnose the issue, I got my car back on 4/11/2007 and on the next morning while the car was warming in the drive way it shut off and was hard to restart I was advised by the dealership my fuel filter was the issue.

Ongoing problem with stalling while driving 65 mph. The vehicle had been to the dealer on 4 separate occasions and they were unable to duplicate the problem. The vehicle stalled without no warning or indicator lights. The engine just shut off during highway/city driving. The engine would restart after you put the vehicle into neutral and start with the key.
