Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver as the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact discovered that the ignition key had moved into the accessory position. The contact pulled over and noticed smoke emitting from the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an intermix of coolant and oil in the engine, and the head gasket and radiator needed to be replaced. The contact received a notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v701000(engine and engine cooling) however, the part for the recall was not available. The contact was told by the dealer that the recall remedy would not fix the specific failure of the head gasket and the contact would be responsible for those repairs at his expense. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Jo.
