"service side detection" comes on the dash everytime the car is started. Recently I tried to enter my vehicle and the fob did not unlock the doors after several attempts. Once it did, the car would not start. After several attempts of starting the vehicle it finally worked, but the gauges kept turning on and off even while the car was in motion as well as the door locks. This is the first time this has happened, but it was quite concerning while driving.

While driving, side detection error. All gauges started jumping around and not working. After shut off car and tried to restart, it wouldn't turn over. Checked and battery was ok but ignition was acting like no power. Tow truck to the dealer. Dealer said it was a known issue and they would repair for free. That was 6 weeks ago and it is still sitting at dealer because the part is on back order. Chevrolet will not cover the cost of a rental vehicle. I have talked to 4 different people (I have kept escalating) over a 3 week period - however with no resolution. After my last request for escalation, they said I would get a call back in 3-5 days. That was 2 weeks ago and I've never received a call back. Dealership is unable to provide an estimate of when the part will be available.

Side detection system sensors are located on the inside of the rear bumper panel on either side, they detect cars in the blind spot. The sensors are located in a poor location to begin with, they are in direct line of fire with road and tire debris, salt water, gravel, sand, snow, mud, etc. Over time, the natural elements seep into the cracks of these sensors and/or their wiring harnesses at the connections, and cause malfunctioning of this system. Minimally, the problem can be resolved by replacing the sensors and/or harnesses for brand new ones. At the worst, these malfunctioned sensors cause other electrical malfunctions and subsequently increased road hazards and driving conditions by the way that it can lead to the driver info center going black, the radio cutting out, all the interior and gauge cluster lights going out while on the road. If left unresolved because many customers and drivers would much rather wait for an official recall and continue driving, many will be at risk.
The blindspot detection system module failed and it messed up all my electrical systems in the car thw speedometer rpm and fuel and temperature gauges bottomed out to 0. All the lights came on . The vehicle was in motion doing 79 mph on the interstate. On star thought I was in an accident.
Car started smoking from the bumper area and electrical system going nuts. Car was sluggish and acting weird. All gauges and instrument panel going off and on. Door locks locking and unlocking. Cruise enable then disable. Infotainment system screen glitching out. Took to dealership they said the side detection module and wiring harness is bad where it got wet. The location leaves it exposed to water from the roadway and can cause fire hazard. Very dangerous and scary driving down the road and all this happens on the highway.
While driving 70 mph, my side detection light remained on and stayed that way for a few days then completely stopped working. I was still under 36,000 but over 36 months. I made an appointment with the dealership but cancelled after talking with my friend who said the same thing happened to her denali and it cost her $3000 to fix it. A few months ago, I was driving around 50 mph, all the sensors started flashing on my dash-parking assist, brakes, side detection, front camera, etc. The gauges stopped working, the heater turned off as did the radio and felt like the power was way down. My blinkers weren't working either. I pulled over and turned the car off to try to reset it and it did not work. I finished my drive to work. When returning to my car, it did not replicate the same behavior as in the morning. Now, my lane departure and front crash detection is not working. I have read many complaints about this issue in the 2014 chevy Impala. I have always been, along with my husband, a gm product owner, gm has a plant 1 mile from us and they are talking about shutting it down. If this is not something gm looks into recalling, I may make the switch to a different car company. I have not yet taken it to the dealer but since more and more things keep breaking, I will be scheduling an appointment soon and letting gm know exactly how I feel about this. After spending $35,000 on a vehicle, it should not act like this.
General motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2009 2010 Chevrolet Impala vehicles. The front passenger seat frame in these vehicles may rub against and damage the wires of the passenger presence sensor (pps) module, which could cause the pps system to fail to recognize that the passenger seat is occupied and improperly suppress the front passenger airbag. In addition, the cluster gauges and driver information center (dic) alerts may intermittently turn off or not function properly. In rare circumstances, the damage to the pps module could cause the airbag fuse to short, resulting in the loss of all airbags and seat belt pretensioners. General motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 2005-2009 model year (my) Buick lacrosse, 2006-2011 my Buick lucerne, 2000-2005 my Cadillac deville, 2007-2011 my Cadillac dts, 2006-2014 my Chevrolet Impala and 2006-2007 my Chevrolet monte carlo vehicles. If the key ring is carrying added weight and the vehicle goes off road or experiences some other jarring event, it may unintentionally move the key away from the "run" position.

The floating gas gauge doesn't properly read the gas levels, even after replacing the fuel pump system and housing. One minute my gauge says I have 120 miles worth of gas when I cut the car off. The next morning when I get in the car to leave, my gas gauge shows 109 miles then it might jump down to 99. I can never tell how much gas I have. The actuators go bad in every model, I've had a 2005, 2010 and 2013 all of which encountered problems with the actuators going bad during the summer months. When you replace one actuator, it's not long before it goes out again and you need a new one.

Second experience where car shut off completely while driving at a steady speed. Foot is on gas, maintaining speed, all electronics shut off - lights, gauges - everything. Almost instantly, car restarts itself. Car has remote start, cruise control and push button start. Dealership states no error code recorded and charges $125 each time we complain about this. First time was around 30k miles. This was 59k miles. One owner (me).
First experience where car shut off completely while driving down a hill during a snow storm. Foot is on brake, slowing speed, all electronics shut off - lights, gauges - everything. Almost instantly, car restarts itself. Car has remote start, cruise control and push button start. Dealership states no error code recorded and charges $125 each time we complain about this. I bought this car in 2006. One year later I noticed my speedometer was not working. I searched on line and found many complaints about the speedometer failing to work. Right after that the temperature gauge and the fuel indicator stopped working. I went on line and found that chevy trucks had been recalled for cluster failures. I took my car in to a chevy dealer and was told I'd have to pay $700+ for the repair. The cluster hasn't worked all these years and I've had several instances of the car almost overheating, the car running out of gas, and being pulled over for exceeding the speed limit because the cluster didn't work. How can gm & chevy say they stand by their products and not recognize deficiencies in their own products unless it makes national news. I've held onto this car and have maintained well so I can brag about longevity because of the care I take. I cannot brag about gm/Chevrolet customer service or responsiveness, or customer loyalty. After years of buying well made japanese cars I bought american. Now I wonder why.

When you start the car the fuel gauge always stays on full and I can never tell how much gas is in the tank.

I was driving the vehicle and when I came to a stop to pump gas I left the keys in the ignition I placed the car in park. I turned around to place the pump into the gas gauge and my car was rolling down the hill and I had to chase the car open the door and stop the car. When I got the car to a halt position. I tried to take the key out the ignition and couldn't get the key out the ignition. Once I was able to get the key, the key slot was turned at 3:00 position and not a 12:00 position when a key is removed from a ignition. After the key was removed the car started to roll again and I had to place the "emergency brake" on to keep the car from rolling. Once I tried to turn the car back on after pumping the car started up and I placed it in drive pressed the gas pedal and car stalled, I placed the car in reverse and pressed the gas pedal and the car stalled. My car has not worked since.

Fuel stopped working. Temp gauge as well.
When the weather is hot, the car will not start. Once started the electrical system throws multiple errors, from security, battery, service engine soon, abs light, seat belt light, and brakes. The radio is locked out and the ac fan runs but will not allow the ac compressor to function. Also the head lights flash and the complete dash board goes dead including all gauges, from the speedometer, fuel and temperature gauge. The warning bell continues to ring as the battery light comes on. This is a could cause a very dangerous situation with no head lights and no working gauges on the dash, and should for some reason the security system shuts the car down while driving, could cause a serious accident. Gm seem to be neglecting this issue, and even gm and their dealerships claim to know nothing about this. Yet in multiple Impala forums, this is the top issue with this vehicle. I would like to see something done about this before someone gets killed, and it is not fair for the consumer to pay thousands of dollars trying to chase this issue down. I just wish american car companies would stand behind their products, especially when the public's safety is in question.

My car had been showing the service battery charging system for about two days. When I called southeast kia of somerset, they tried to say it was the actually battery, keep in mind, I have only had this car for six weeks. I knew that it wasn't because I had been having no problems with my car whatsoever before this, and I was raised around mechanics and truck drivers, I do know a little about cars. When I turned the car off it would not start back up. I had the battery jumped three times and it died sitting there, we finally got it charged so that I could drive to my mothers, but had problems on the way there. As I was driving, all of my gauges completely stopped working in my car, and I thought the car had died and that I was coasting. So I pulled over to the side of the road, with my three children in the car, and realized the car was running. I shut the car off, but it kept running. Now, kia is saying that if it's the altenator it's not covered under a two year warranty that I have, because they don't want to have to fix it basically. I have been severely ripped off, and now me and my children are without a car. I think it is ridiculous that car lots are able to send out terrible and unreliable cars to people without a second thought, and then don't want to fix things. Now I am trying to find a way to get a different car and leave this piece of junk on their lot, I will probably never buy a car again unless it only has about 20 miles on it and is brand new, and will definitely do more research on the type of car, along with the dealership selling it to me. And kia has not heard the last of me as well.

Frequently, service traction control and engine power is reduced lights come on. When this happens, car is sluggish and will not accelerate. This is very dangerous because it happens unexpectedly and causes vehicle to decelerate quickly. Typically the car will start normally after sitting for 15-30 minutes but check engine light remains on for some time. Also, the message engine hot/ac off fires randomly. Temperature gauge rests at zero. It will start working again either through manual reset by removing battery cables and reconnecting or randomly start working again on its own. There are numerous reports of both issues on the internet which indicate replacement of sensors/throttle are very expensive and do not fix the issues.

I have a 2001 Impala dies going down the road. The electrical gas gauge security light oil light tempture gauge do not work now. You can go to the store. Come out car won't start and some times it won't start for days or weeks. Sometimes I smell oil burning. If the buzzer goes off in the car the car won't start you can go down the road if you hear the sick sounding door buzzer go off be prepared to stop. Took it to the shop they can't figure out what it is. Most the time its running fine when they get it.
Approximately a year ago my temperature gauge and gas gauge quit working. I was not too concerned because I knew how many miles I could go on a full tank of gas so I just judged my gas by my mileage counter. Now this evening my speedometer quit working. While completely stopped, with the engine turned off it said that I was going 30 mph. When I was driving, the needle seemed to "jerk" a lot. Also recently my car seems to be sluggish or act like it is going to stall. I have also had some occasions when my car won't start after just turning the key off. If I wait a little while or overnight then it will start like nothing was wrong. I am very concerned because my 17 year old also drives this vehicle and I have to do a lot of highway driving.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, the speedometer and temperature gauge on the instrument panel does not work properly. The speedometer shows all different speeds even if the car is not moving. The temperature gauge does not work at all. I am also beginning to doubt that the fuel gauge is correct. I was told by my Chevrolet dealer that the cost of repair will be around $700. 00. I learned today on a news report the general motors acknowledges the problem on their SUV's and pick-up trucks, but not on the Impala's. I am still trying to save the $700. 00 for the repair.
The event actually started the day that my wife and I bought the vehicle. We bought our vehicle used from sanger Ford in sanger, CA. First the temperature gauge went out. Later the speedometer stopped working and now our fuel gauge doesn't work. The mechanic at sanger Ford stated that it was the cluster and it was not covered under warranty and told us it would cost $507. 45 to replace. We have since spoken to gm, who instructed us to get a diagnostic and they would take it from there. We paid $85 for a diagnostic at tom benson Chevrolet in san antonio, TX. Gm then told us that there is no recall for the cluster on the Impala, but there are recalls on the chevy tahoe, suburban and the silverado and that if we wanted it replaced we could deduct the cost of the diagnostic from what tom benson wanted to charge to replace it, which was $500. I have seen comments online from other '04 Impala owners complaining about their cluster going out, they just either paid to have it replaced and the ones who didn't have the money to replace it, like myself, are stuck with not knowing how fast they are driving, how much gas they have or if their engine is running hot. Please help us. I know that this is a major problem and gm doesn't want to have to pay to fix it.
Speedometer stopped working just before 2 years / we thought it was a vehicle in front of us with high rf output interfering / we were so wrong / / / earlier the gas gauge was sticking and required multiple twists of key to on without starting car then off on off on off on off . . . . . . . To reset it / later it got stuck pointing to the temperature and wont move at all / / / later the temperature gauge stopped working and will point anywhere / although 1 trip in 20 it seems as if its random setting could be correct / / / now the tachometer is intermittent / seems right when it works which is about 4 out of 5 trips / / / and the security light comes on at random / a few times was unable to start the car without waiting ten minutes / / / sometimes the traction light comes on erroneously / / / cruise control seems to have stopped working completely / / / no idea what will fail next / the internet is full of people with these complaints / / / consumers reports used car ratings has this car as bad in every category of parts that can need servicing / / / dealers want thousands to replace multiple parts but wont guarantee that they will fix the problem / / / internet notes that people have found bad solder joints in the bcm, bad wiring harness contacts, bad sensors, etc. And other design defects / / / I have found three independent companies making alternate parts to really fix these problems. And many solutions to help alleviate the problem. / / / is there an unadvertised recall or fix program by gm to fix the instruments and the bogus security system that only locks users out ?? / / / / / /.
