Recently my car makes a pop or low clicking noise when I turn the steering wheel to the left. I've looked into and see there was a recall on the model in 2012 but I haven't found any records of my car being repaired. I want to know if my car can possible be repaired since the recall falls in line with a previous recall. It happens when I turn almost full to the left while in motion, whether I go forward or back it makes the noise. I want to know if I can get this repaired for free. The car has been doing this since June 2019 and I've owned it since may 2016. I haven't tried to get it fixed myself due to funds and I'm worried something dangerous may happen and I have a kid, so I want to be safe. I also want to know if it was ever repaired for the first recall.

Car makes a popping noise from steering. The car started shifting hard occasionally but then goes away. The steering will get tight then really loose. Car feels unsafe to drive. Especially over a bumpy road feels like you have loose wheels. The car only has 78,800 miles on it. This is insane and I will never again buy a Chevrolet! I have kids and feel unsafe driving my car with them in it! I wrecked this vehicle when I tried to apply brakes and the wheels squealed but did not lock up nor did it stop! brakes are fine and in good condition not sure why it wont stop. Has happened 5-8 times and car slides! thank god we didn't get severely injured! Impala's should be taken off the market if u ask me.

I have been having an issue with my steering column in my Impala I know there was a recall on some Impala's but when I contacted a local dealer I was told mine wasn't in recall . Yet there's a popping noise in steering column and just recently I started having problems with my high beam lights they will switch to high beam whenever I use my blinker and I have to push in n hold in the blinker switch for a few mins before the high beam lights will go off ! I've bright lighted so many ppl over this problem and I feel very guilty if I caused someone to crash over bright lighting them even though it's out of my control really . Please help me find out if my car should be checked for this steering knuckle recall bc a mechanic told me that it sounds like that is what may be the issue , thank you .
Symptoms were noise when steering at low speed, play in steering wheel and vehicle "wandering" when driving in a straight line. Problem was defective intermediate steering shaft. Gm redesigned the intermediate steering shaft in 2008 in response to these very problems. Gm has not issued a recall for this part, but there have been multiple technical services bulletins, including TSB # 01-02-32-0010. The TSB indicates the need for replacing, not lubricating, the part. The TSB states "engineering changes have been made to the service parts available through spo. The service parts for the vehicles listed in this bulletin will no longer require lubrication of the intermediate steering shaft" gm re-engineering the part indicates to me as an owner that they know the original product was defective, but are choosing to replace a defective, potentially dangerous part at the owners expense. This problem is widely documented on gm owner and dealership forums across the internet. This problem is shared by Chevrolet Impalas, Chevrolet monte carlos, Buick regals, Buick lacrosses, Oldsmobile intrigue and pontiac grand prix. All of these vehicles are built on the gm "w body" platform. Due to the popularity of these vehicles, the problem likely affects many millions of owners. I had the part replaced at my own expense. I had a certified pre-owned warranty that, according to my invoice, only saved me $30 on the repair. I was charged a $200 deductible for the replacement of the part.
I had noticed a noise in steering recently, went to dealer and was told that there must be dust around the steering column. Had been on vacation and not driving car for a month or more, then 11-14-11 it was something very noticeable and I drove directly to dealership to be checked. They charged $96. 00 to diagnose the problem and replaced steering shaft #25937479 shaft (06524-c). My total bill was $312. 86. Is this any part of my warranty coverage?????.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 5 mph into a parking space the contact heard a grinding noise in the steering wheel. The failure also occurred while driving between 15 and 20 mph while turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the steering rack and intermediate steering shaft had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
My 2006 Chevrolet Impala with 37000 miles on the odometer has had a cracking noise in the steering like you would get if there was a loose connection in the steering mechanism. It is noticed more at very slow speeds then at fast speed. It is also quite noticeable if you are just creeping along and tapping the brake pedal. This situation has been present for the last nine months. I have not had a dealer look at this problem. The car has not been in a accident during this time nor has there been an injury due to this problem. After reading other reports concerning the 2006 Impala steering. I strongly feel that recall should be in order. ,.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the engine off, she noticed that the steering wheel would not lock. The dealer was contacted and the technician stated that the wheel would need to be turned inward in order for the steering wheel to lock. The contact followed the technician's instructions but to no avail. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the ignition switch was replaced twice and repairs were made to the steering column for a clunking noise in the steering wheel. The contact was not aware of the part that was replaced in the steering column and the present failure did not exist. The vehicle was not further repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I am hearing noises coming from my steering gear as I make turns. The dealer told me my rack and pinion system is going out. This failure can lead to the loss of the ability to steer or the steering wheel locking up. Research indicates this has been a problem with Chevrolet models since 2000. No corrective action has taken place yet. I am sure there are injuries and deaths related to this issue.

I own a 2008 chevy Impala and I have been hearing clicking noises in the steering shaft. I have took my car in to be serviced and they put 2 new front tires on replaced the assist steering shaft and put a 4 wheel alignment on the car because my tires were worn on the outer edge I still hear the same noise when I turn coming out of a parked position and the new tires they put on one was defected and I almost had a major accident on interstate 38 in camden n. J because one of the tires radial belts popped and caused a blow-out which sent me and my husband and 2 kids in a fight for our lives trying to get out of on- coming traffic we had to ride around on a donut in a 2008 for 12 hours until we could find a used tire to come back to richmond virginia 256 miles away from home. I also owned a 2004 chevy Impala and upgraded to the 2008 after having my car serviced 5 times for the same thing and low and behold I'm experiencing the same problem click click click. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I am continuously having steering problems with my 2000 chevy Impala. I had the rack and pinion replaced 11/07 when I lost control of my car and could not turn. I almost went of the road from this. I then had to have the steering lubed for some knocking noise and vibration. Here it is 2 years later and I am having the same problem again. Knocking noise and vibration in steering when I turn left. I only have 106,000 miles on this car. When is it you will hold the company liable for an issue they have known about all along? how many deaths will it take?.
Steering issue with 2007 Chevrolet Impala. When making turns, I can hear and feel a clunking noise in the steering wheel. The vehicle only has 700 miles on it. The dealer is supposed to replace the steering shaft when the part is available. I went to the dealer twice with this concern. The first time, they just lubed the steering shaft. That did not help the problem at all. Two days later I went back to the dealer, and that is when they said they will replace the shaft.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that he heard a loud noise coming from the steering wheel when driving in reverse. The current mileage is 30,100, and failure mileage was 29,995.
2004 chevy Impala has a clunk noise in steering column when turning.
I have a problem with my 2002 chevy Impala. When you turn the steering wheel left or right, there are clunking noises coming from the steering column. The sharper the turn, the worse the problem is. I also hear an intermittent whirring noise when I make turns (the sound is like when you wear a nylon coat, and your sleeves rub against the body of the coat). It is a constant problem, and I am now afraid to drive the car because I'm afraid that I will loosing steering control. I made the mistake of looking at the complaints on this website, and I have found 17 other complaints of this exact issue with 2002 chevy Impala vehicles. Now I am really afraid to drive the car. I am planning on getting the first available appointment with the dealer to see if they can resolve the issue. I will have to pay to fix it, of course, since it is no longer under warranty. But I feel that my life is worth the money. However, don't you think that this should be a recall issue by now? how many complaints do you need before you realize that this is a recurring problem that needs to be addressed?
I hope that someone doesn't need to be injured or killed before any action is taken. I hope that my additional complaint will help other Impala owners get this problem fixed through a recall notice. I'm sure that you would have numerous more complaints about this issue (and others) if more people realized that this complaint procedure was available. Maybe the roads would be safer. Please try to have this issue resolved through a recall notice.
