I've only had my car for about 2 1/2 months, when I started to notice my car moving to the right without me moving it. I figured it needed a front-end alignment. So, I took it to a mechanic. Once he got it up on the stand, he noticed something wrong with the front suspension. He didn't do the alignment, but he told me that my "rack and pinion" was going out. I then made and appointment with the dealership. They looked at it and told me it was my steering and that it wasn't cover under my warranty and that the part to fix it was "nowhere in the country to be found", and if I brought the part to them. They wouldn't put it on. So now I have a car note and insurance bill on a car that I'm afraid to drive. What are people supposed to do about these cars? it would seem that it's not just a me problem.

Very loud abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle, failed actuators. Resulting in hvac loss. Arecall issued in 2014 for stabilitrak /abs for bad grounds on 2014 chevy Impalas. However 2. 5 and 3. 6 l engines were not included, but need to be!!! the car will drive rough and eventually just cut off in the middle of traffic highway or residential. This is what it did on me, putting me in a very dangerous position with my 5 year old in the car. This issue is effecting thousands of the same vehicles and gm's failure to address this issue is leaving the owners of the affected vehicles driving unsafe vehicles. Gm / chevy needs to issue a recall on alll the 2014 Impalas. (which they will not confirm or deny). While I was driving 60mph on an interstate my car notification screen displayed "service stabilitrak"/ "engine power reduced". . . Then my car acceleration seemed to have died and car slowed all the way down to around 20 mph with the gas pedal diwn to the floor. . . A big semi truck was behind me and had to break and swerve around me while blowing his horn. . . I was nearly killed.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the power steering, service stabili-trak, and the check engine warning lights illuminated, and the steering wheel seized briefly. The contact stated that shortly after the failure, the steering wheel unlocked, and the contact was able to continue driving safely. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
I purchased this vehicle in a chevy dealership in palatine, IL. [xxx]. 50k miles a chevy Impala around 38k total with taxes and all. A month later I had to pay 200 for a diagnostic at the dealership to check an issue with the steering. They said nothing was wrong with it and it was just the floor mat making contact in the floor. When I returned home, I had the same issue occur again. I retook it and they wanted another 200 dollars. I complained to the seller of this vehicle, and he agreed to waive these 200 dollars. When it was rechecked, it was found out that it actually had to replace the wheel barring's on the front. It was around a 2,000$ job I have the receipts, and I actually didn't pay for anything at the time due to warranty. I also have been up to date with transmission oil, engine oil, fuel injectors, etc to keep the car running smooth. As of 01/2025 I started having issues with the transmission, the gears were very jumpy and very unsafe to drive. I called the dealership and I was told the warranty had a expire a month before. I had to call the bank to find out this telephone number since the dealership never responded back. The number I was looking for was the warranty which my contract that was given from the dealership coincidence didnt have it. I had to reach to the bank and ask for a new contract. I called them and was denied due to the time that has past and was out of luck. I took it to a mechanic for a transmission rebuilt and cost me 3,000 which im still paying off right now. It was repair around [xxx]. Now I have an issue with the power steering. I also have a check engine light now. I am in the process of taking it to the transmission job to look at it but most likely wont get fix. I now have to invest around another 1,500+ for these new jobs. I dont have that much now and its costing me a lot of headaches pain money and time and many more things. Gm wont do anything about it and I still have to pay550 a month for this vehicle. Idk. 2020 Chevrolet Impala premier purchased July, 2015, mileage: + or - 12 miles I started having hard steering and made several trips to the dealer while under warranty and the dealer could not gen an obd reading and no on dash reading. Right after the warranty was up and at 5,322 miles they were able to get an obd reading. Information from the dealer invoice: a multi-point inspection di1 multi-point inspection 716106 cpc b c/s veh is hard to steer at times- acts like it has no electric steering adv cause: dtc o800 power steering control module low voltage, found while battery sitting over tp test dead cell and low cca 185/535cca ego1 drivability test 716106 cpc $69. 95 1 88866309 $190. 00 new battery final charge: $317. 44 no hard steering for a while, and now at 7,500 + or - miles hard steering is back and becoming harder to steer at times, especially if breaking. I have been to the dealer more often and had wait for the a while to get checked in and by the time he gets to me and someone to drive my car the steering is back to normal again. They told me that without a dash or odb reading there is nothing they can do. 5 years same problem and never know when it will happen.
I was driving my 2015 chevy Impala on the highway and my steering gave out into a curve. I got deeply afraid when the steering froze up on me, specially at 50 into a 40 mile rated speed. I say this because I wasn't aware that gm vehicles stop putting power steering pumps in their cars nice the late 2000's. I called onstar and inform them to the problem I was having with the car. I was able to get it to a safe spot. And the vehicle towed a dealership for servicing. I was told it was software malfunction that needed to be updated. Costing me $775, which my insurance company under carcare wouldn't cover. I canceled them quickly. The car steered fine after getting it back. Then the same issue happened again a day later I call the dealership again close to my home, they told me the motor on the steering rack and pinion gave out. And was going to cost, 4100 dollars. I had another insurance company endurance. They said they'll cover the rack but not the motor to the service department and denied the claim. Out of anger of payments to both insurance companies. The vehicle was traded in for a newer car. Value at 2000 dollars for trade. I'm bringing this to attention because gm is aware of this issue and don't want yo acknowledge this safety issue. Thank god I'm able to stronghold the car and bring it to safe spot. But for others with the chevy Impala's not so lucky! these vehicles are scary and a dangerous for highway running, after the warning light appears on the dash!.
I was driving and entering I-17 at happy valley when my power steering went completely out! I was unable to steer my vehicle at all and was on a windy road with my children in the vehicle! I pulled to the side of the road! shut my car off waited a couple minutes and turned it back on and the problem went away! this has happened twice now. My power steering is due to it being electrical and not a fluid issue. This is extremely dangerous as you are unable to steer the vehicle at all when this happens!.

Last summer I was experiencing intermittent issues where the vehicle seemed to have a mind of its own while I was cruising. The steering wheel would randomly lock up as if it was forcing me to go straight on a curved road for example. It would happen a couple of more times until one day I was trying to go home from work and I saw a message indicating something along the lines of “service: power steering” followed by the same symptoms. I was able to temporarily remedy this by power cycling the vehicle for a couple of days until it went out completely, uttering me unable to effectively control the steering. I brought it to 2 difference dealerships and they charged me several diagnostic fees to assess that I needed a replacement power steering rack as the one in my vehicle had inexplicably short circuited. 5000 dollars later I managed to get it replaced but I notice similar issues for other vehicles by the same manufacturer within a similar span of model years being recognized in a recall for the exact same issues I was experiencing. Ive already attempted to reach out to general motors and was given no suitable response to my claims.

Complete loss of power assist steering resulting in difficulty in steering the vehicle at any speed. Dic messages indicate: loss of power steering, drive with caution, service traction control, and service abs. Abs and traction control warning lights remain on and illuminated while driving. These indicators occur each time the vehicle is restarted. This problem originally started about two and a half months ago, and the power steering loss, for a while, was intermittent until recently. The vehicle has not been inspected been inspected by mechanics to date. I have researched hundreds of Impalas online with the same problem with a majority of them remaining unresolved and no manufacturer recall being issued. The vehicle mileage is currently 31, 104 miles and is not driven often because of the problem and the fact that I own two other vehicles.
Started the car radio was black a/c compartment wasn’t lit then power steering fluid drive with care message appears.
I was driving to doctors appointment Friday . (03-15-2024) in another area then where I live . )and my steering tightened up a bit . I was able to turn it and park . I went in for my doctor appointment and came back out and steering wheel completely locked! I had to get it towed to my mother's home in the same area . So now I'm stranded . I had a mobile mechanic come look at it and he hooked it up to the machine and it said the ground wire needs fixed . It could have been a bad situation if I had got on the interstate. I see there was a recall on it. But I've been told that got fixed on Impalas a few years ago . I've had my car 2 years . So never knew about a recall .
About two years ago I parked in front of a business in sun city west arizona. When I came out to leave, my steering wheel would hardly turn. I went home and when I came back with a neighbor, the steerig wheel was working as it should. About three weeks ago, I was turning onto a major street in sun city west, arizona. I got a notice on the info screen that the power steering was disabled. I had to force the steering just to get around the corner. I drove to a nearby parking lot. The steering took a tremendous amount of errort to turn the steering wheel. I almost hit a semi truck trying to go around a corner. It was very dangerous. After parking and leaving it for a short while, steering returned to normal. On a major highway a serious accident could have happened. I read online that in 2015 general motors recalled roughly 1. 2 million model year 2015 trucks and suvs globally for a problem with the electric power steering system. Gm previously recalled nearly 700,000 model year 2014 pickups for the same problem. My car with the electric power steering problem is a 2015 Chevrolet Impala. I am afraid to drive the car now. It could happen anytime again and cause a wreck. 0.

While driving at 70 mph my car just shut off. The radio and lights stayed on. The oil and battery light came on before it just shut down. Steering locked up. When safely to side, and turned key off it starts right back up, but now traction system is off. Has gas and nothing is broken.

My service stability and service power steering g drive with care warning lights came on. . I do not have any power steering. . I am lucky I was not driving on the road when power steering failed. A service bullerin 19na182 has be given to this very unsafe issue.
As I was driving home from my place of employment which is exactly 30 miles from where I live my steering assist went out and it was very hard to steer and to even stay in the lane which I was driving I managed to get the car home and did an under carriage inspection and there was no damage still kind of shaken from the power steering going out I checked for the power steering pump and the power steering fluid reserve but found out through my owner's manual that I have electronic power steering I took the car by my local Chevrolet dealer and was told it was nothing they could do because they knew nothing about how to repair such a problem the only warning lamp that I received was a message that said power steering service drive with care.
My son (a brand new driver) was driving to school with me in the passenger seat on surface streets at approximately 45 mph at 0600 and an error message came on the console about “service power steering - drive with care” or something akin to that and my son was unable to steer the car. He was able to slightly steer it into a turn lane (right hand turn into a neighborhood) and almost struck an oncoming car. He was able to stop and switch seats with me. Thankfully traffic was light enough and no one was behind us for me to back up about 10 feet to enable me to muscle the car into the neighborhood side street to pull over. I immediately turned the car off, waited ~30 seconds and restarted the engine…still couldn’t drive and error message came up again. Waited another 5-10 minutes and turned the ignition and was able to turn the wheel with ease, so I drove the car the ~5 miles home with no issue, but immediately called a service repair shop; they told me that this was a known issue. (what the what?!?! losing the ability to steer while careening down the road is a flipping known issue and there has not been a safety recall?!? we could have been killed and killed others!). I immediately took it to the repair shop as I refused to drive it as it was unnecessarily unsafe! the repair was quoted as $5,200 (brand new gm part replacement) or $3,800 (reconditioned part - which ironically had a better warranty on it than the genuine gm part!)…I needed my car so I authorized the repair. Not happy! (a side note and a huge slap in the face is that my father did and my husband actually still works for gm…I’ve seen all the near-misses reported here and no one knew this was an issue until driving and the ability to steer was lost! thank goodness we were on a surface street and not interstate! my novice driver could have easily been killed if he was in a different driving situation. Gm needs to order a recall!!.
I was driving and powersteering fluid drained and I lost control of the steering, and guide the car against the side walk. Had a mechanic change the powers steering fluid line. But now it's shooting up instead leaking down, it clogged all my spark plugs ,plus cause my cam shaft and crank shaffsensor to malfunction. ,plus my belt got shredded. And now it's been over a year, and I still can't drive my car cause. It starts all over. And my front wheels are on not good arms, when crash it bent or crack the arms.

In September 2021, my vehicle had approximately 130,000 miles and began to experience intermittent power steering failures. During these times, which were always unexpected, the stabilitrak light would illuminate on the dashboard, and a "power steering" advisory would appear on the dashboard display screen. Power steering would then be unavailable until the vehicle was restarted. I am experienced in vehicle repair, and I isolated the left rear wheel speed sensor as the cause of this fault. I changed the left rear wheel bearing with an oem replacement, and the problem went away. In January 2023, at approximately 160,000 miles I began noticing that my right rear wheel bearing was worn, and I changed it with an oem replacement. Roughly 2 weeks later, my power steering has randomly begun to disengage while driving. The only message I receive is a "power steering" advisory, but this time, stabilitrak remains operational. I am very concerned about this vehicle's design, which apparently kicks power steering offline as a result of anomalies with the wheel bearing speed sensors. The speed sensors consist of a circular magnet attached to the back of the bearing, and a device mounted within the bearing bracket which tracks the frequency of that magnet's rotation. The circular magnet is subject to corrosion and fracturing, as I discovered in September 2021, and again in January 2023, while replacing each bearing. This vehicle is quite heavy. A significant amount of damage, injury, and death is likely to occur if a driver with less capabilities than me is met with this awful fault while driving. Steering the vehicle in this condition, while below 50 mph, is nearly impossible without enormous effort, especially around common 4-way intersections and at slow speeds. I believe speed sensor anomalies should not trigger a complete loss of power steering.
