2 Steering Wheel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/21/2011

Traveling eastbound on I-90, low tire pressure warning came on, I pulled over to check my tires and noticed that just the inside of my rear tires were worn down to the belts, however very little wear on the out side of the tire. I visually checked the tire prior to getting on the highway and did not notice any wear. After doing some research, I found this is a common problem with this model. This is definitely a safety issue.

3 Steering Wheel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/21/2011

The car has alignment problem. While driving I never felt confident about the feel and felt like traction was not was not good. Original set of tires prematurely failed around 30,000 miles. Excessive wear on the inside. When complained the dealer said it needed alignment and performed on the front wheels. After that I replaced all 4 tires. Upon examining the tires recently I realized that the rear tires are wearing unevenly, inside was wearing fast. The road nose from the rear wheels was increasing steadily. However the front tires seems to be fine. When I called the dealer with the problem, he suggested all wheel alignment for which I will have to pay. I strongly believe the problem was due to defective parts/inspection prior to delivery.

5 Steering Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/06/2011

Driving the Impala ss on winter roads in indiana has become a challenge with this car. Any ice or snow on the road will only allow you to drive 45 mph at the max and then the rear of the car starts to swerve back and forth as if the tires are fighting one and another for control. Contacted the local chevy dealer and was told by the service department that it is a tire problem with the good year eagle rs-a p235/50 r 18 and they have had a lot of complaints on no traction with these tires. Service rep stated the tires needed to be taken off and new tires put on. Not covered by the warranty. Called good year customer service told them the problem and they schedule an appointment for me. Took it to the authorized good year dealer and they called back and said the tires have half their tread left and no problems with the tires. He stated that the tire is to wide for driving in the winter time and basically floats on the ice and snow and would suggest only diving the car in the summer months. So here is the dilemma, the manufacture knows that they have had a lot of complaints with the tires (which are the original tires that are sold with the car. The tire manufacture states the tire is to wide for driving on snow or ice and I need to park it into summer gets here and if so if I drive the car in the winter, I have been warned that it is too dangerous to drive.

6 Steering Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 11/24/2009

There was no incident. The rear tires wear out prematurely due to gm's aknowledged rear spindle rod defect. Excessive wear on the tires creates a safety hazard within a few thousand miles. Gm dealer (graff Chevrolet okemos michigan) refused to repair even at my expense.

7 Steering Wheel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 07/23/2008

1) tried to slow car down. Car would not turn nor halt. Ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. Restored it 100%. 2) a year later, had 3 brand new rack and pinion's replaced in one month. Had the vehicle checked out. The a-frame is in excellent shape and so is the area surrounding the rack and pinon. Have pictures and mechanics as proof. 3) called the chevy company & was told that the car was manufactured in wisconsin. They claim they saw no reason to help with the rack & pinion as those cars were recall-free. 4) car leans towards oncoming traffic at times (this started after each rack and pinion was replaced). There is also a 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock dead zone in the steering column. Steering used to feel a bit normal. It was not like this until I had a new rack and pinion put on. Twice (in between) the boot would excessively leak (as did the original from chevy). 5) when I turn the wheel out of the driveway, the car makes kick drumming grinding sounds. Was told this was normal. It is irritating though. 6) the car didn't even hit it's 5th year (being new) before it started to rust paint off the top of its roof. I live where there is no snow or coast, and extremely little ice. 7) the check engine light never goes off. Had it checked. Was told it was fine. 8) was driving right next to a cop going down a steep hill when the speedometer stuck at 10 mph. I crossed my fingers that I wasn't speeding since I kept my speed next to the officer. Replaced. 9) combo turning signal & cruise broke off the steering for no reason during a turn. Replaced. 10) locks me out off & on for no reason. 11) this car is my baby as it was one of the last thing I got that was my mother's before she died. It is also my first car that has seen me through (and still) my college years. It is very sentimental to me for those reasons. My dream is to keep this car even when it's a classic.

Failure Date: 05/06/2008

I had a company car, 2007 Impala that was wearing the tires unevenly. I went through several sets of tires as a result of this problem. I thought that the tire dealership was not doing a good job however just noticed that there is lawsuit stating there was a problem with the spindles. My father, now owns the vehicle. And want to bring this to the NHTSA attention as well as to be notified of a recall as my father is now driving the vehicle.

16 Steering Wheel problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 08/24/2000

I have got the third steering column, third set of tires and a new cradle. The problem started at 4437 miles and has continued yet @ 37204 miles. Have been to many dealers, contacted gm and now have a better business bureau complaint filed. The dealers told me it was the tires and the tire dealers told me it was the car. In 4000 miles my tires went from 9/32" to 3/32" wear. The "klunk" in the front end is still there. The vehicle likes to "wander" down the road with vibrations felt in the steering wheel. The service manager took it on many test drives and contacted the regional manager=who said "not another dime in this car". I was escorted to the sales department and introduced to a salesman for purposes of trading the vehicle in. The offer was less than nada trade value. I have contacted gm's assistance line many times and just got the "run around" with operators documenting conversation and no one would let me talk to a "real" supervisor. All I wanted to do was ask for a fair solution to the problems that the dealers and gm know that they have. My vehicle is now out of warranty with the same problems since I bought it. Why = if gm states in their literature = they are committed to "customer satisfaction" = not responsive in a fair manner and I had to take this issue to all of these extremes????????????? also at issue = is the fact that gm penalizes dealers (with bad customer surveys) due to the manufacturers engineering problems. What happened to telling the "truth" and "customer satisfaction" in business????????? (tiresize: p225/60r16).

20 Steering Wheel problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala

There is a clunk in the steering column which the dealer can not guaranty that they can fix but is normal on this line of gm cars. My concern is that this may develop into a failure as on other gm cars.
