One day I was driving my car home making a right turn and my engine started making noise and was acting as if it was going to cut off. So I parked my car called my mechanic he came over and looked at the car I said it could be a possible rocker arm that has gone in the car or I could have something to do with the check engine light coming on giving me a code for a cam positioning sensor / solenoid. Also when I purchase the car not too long after me driving I noticed there was some noise coming from my back tires. I couldn't figure it out for a while until one day I looked at my tires and noticed that on the inside there was a considerable amount of scraping going on wearing away my tread. It would always seem to happen when I got new tires on the car so I thought maybe the tires were too big for the car but I ordered what the manufactor suggested the tire size should be for the car. So I had a tire specialist look at it and an alignment specialist look at it and they told me that the suspension springs may be causing my issue. They said that I should not have to change the size of my tire for them to fit because the manufacturer specifications are correct and the tires were the right size for the car.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. While driving various speeds and making a turn in any direction, a loud knocking noise was heard coming from the front driver side of the vehicle. The contact stated that the emission warning indicator illuminated, but could have been caused by the fuel cap. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failure in the lower driver side control arm, which needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The contact found NHTSA campaign number: 12v377000 (suspension), which only included Chevrolet Impala police vehicles. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
Since about a year after I owned this car I have been having tire wear problems and noises coming from the front end. I took it while still under warranty to the dealership only to be told it was the brakes sticking and this was normal for these brakes on this model. So I let it go only to get worse so I took it to my mechanic and he says both control arms are loose a the bushings are bad and have to be repalced. I see that there was a recall on this model of police cars I think you may need to look at expanding this. I also only have 38300 miles on this car and have never had to replace suspension parts on a car this early.

2011 Chevrolet Impala. Consumer writes in regards to gm recall 14299 and 12104. The consumer learned of the ignition switch and lower control arm recall. However, the dealer stated they would only address the ignition switch recall, because they had not been notified of any other recalls or problems with the suspension. The consumer stated from time to time, when she turned the steering wheel to the left or right, there was a noise similar to the tire rubbing the fender.
I own a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. I have had my housing gear replaced and other suspension items in the last year. Since my last major job (housing gear), the car has been making a click when turning the wheel and when going up hill. When the car is going uphill and shifting gears it make a click/pop sound. I have taken my car to the chevy dealer and they constantly act as though they can not hear the sound, which makes it so easy for them to not repair. I have taken my car in for this over 5 times and leave with the problem still being. On two of those occasions they found other issues which resulted in the warranty paying for the problems. My warranty includes a $100 deductible. So I have paid a deductible to get one problem fixed and it has not been repaired to date. I am truly frustartaed, as I am not a mechanic and need my car fixed. I drive a toddler around daily. I feel insecure with my cars driveability. My car needs to be fixed.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that there was a loud noise coming from the rear tires. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Bought 2007 Impala new. Have replaced rear tires 6 times due to camber issue. Impala is designed with no adjustment for camber on the rear suspension. Tires wear on the inside at a fast rate. Nothing in the trunk to cause weight issues, standard highway driving on a daily basis. Tire sound is horrible and increases with speed. First set of tires replaced at 9,000 miles. Gm recalled police models of the Impala to fix the issue, but not Impalas that weren't police models. So gm knows there is an issue with the rear suspension causing excessive tire wear but won't perform a recall. My wife wouldn't even drive the car because she was afraid tires would blow out on the highway. 6 sets of tires on a vehicle with 90,000 miles is obsurd. I finally had to have another shop install aftermarket camber adjusting bolts and get an alignment to fix the issue. Shop I dealt with says they've been performing this repair on Impala's since mid 2007. $20 for the bolt kit and $80 for the alignment. $100 to fix an issue (not including tire replacement costs) and gm won't own up to it. This is a basic design flaw that gm has been aware of, with no action being taken on there part.
