36 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/14/2010

I purchased a 2007 chevy Impala lt with 52,000 on 5. 27. 10. The car is unsafe, makes loud road noise, the tires are wearing out funny, even tho the car was perfect when I bought it. The brand new tires are wearing out funny, I took it to 2 shops, had rotors replaced that were warped, balanced, and rotated tires, tomorrow getting it aligned again, the dealer aligned it when I purchased it less than a month ago. The tires also need balanced again even tho I got it done a week ago. I don't feel safe driving this car it has a serious defect with the car not the tires, some kind of alignment problem a gm defect, and I'm seeing alot of others same the same thing as me on the forums about the 2007 Impala. The transmission slips when taking off from a light in city at low speeds, I push the gas peddle just a little bit to speed up like a car is designed to do but the rpms go up but the car does not speed up to keep up with traffic, I push the gas peddle down half way and the overdrive kicks in without expecting it and it speeds up like a rocket in 30mph traffic. The car struggles and kicks its overdrive in to just speed up in the city, something isn't right with this. Im afraid to drive on the highway with the tire wear issue, the tires are being ruined and no excuse for it. Im saving and filing all repairs done to my Impala. . . I really am afraid to drive this car over 50mph, I don't think my life should be at risk because gm slapped together a car without making it safe. I don't feel safe driving the car, it doesn't handle or stir that well either, not very responsive. I'm shocked that gm put out such a vehicle, it's a mess and I don't get it? it's a factory problem gm overlooked and not willing to recall. They should considering it's unsafe. The car has other issues as well. . A warning light came up saying driver side airbag not working, it corrected itself and went away, I hope the airbags are working properly? my girlfriend sits in that seat. I want her safe.

37 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

Occasionally, when starting from a stopped position the engine will rev up and then the transmission will kick in to gear. Occasionally it slips on hills also. We generally do not have to merge into high speed traffic but if the transmission slipped at that time there could be serious consequences. The dealer has been unable to fix the problem after five visits, and apparently will not do anything until they themselves experience the transmission slip.

38 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

I am writing to complain about the 4t65e-hd transmission in general motor's lineup of v8 powered w-body platform cars. I have experienced many issues of this transmission slipping and hesitating on acceleration from a stop. I have been experiencing the issue for about 30k miles now. The car is not beaten, or driven hard at all. All my routine maintenance has been done. I first took it to the dealer to complain about the slipping transmission, and even though the tech felt the transmission issue, I was told that unless the transmission is throwing a code, there is nothing that they could do for me. I have put about $500 into work on this transmission so far with minimum success. I have flushed the transmission totally, which seemed to have fixed the transmission for about a week. Another thing that I attempted per the reccomendation of a gm master tech was to change the valve body. Which I did and it corrected the issue for 3 days. Now the transmission is slipping when driving on the highway at a constant speed/rpm. . Almost like it feels the motor is misfiring. I have checked the fluid level, and the fluid. The level is fine and the fluid is not burnt. I feel that gm needs to step up and rectify the problem of these garbage transmissions. I have owned 2 other cars with the same transmission (95 monte carlo z34 and a 01 pontiac gtp). Both vehicles experienced these same issues and the transmissions blew up. Why would gm continue to use such a weak major component. I know of 100+ other v8 w-body owners experiencing these same issues.

40 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/18/2007

The vehicle was purchased in March 2007 and is used as a commuter car from new oxford, PA to washington, DC daily. I average 750 miles per week. Last fall when the vehicle had just over 90,000 miles, I began having problems first with the cruise control dropping off speed and not resetting. This quickly advanced to a shuttering feel when accelerating and occasionally picking up speed and within 50 miles the car refused to move after a stop light. I turned it off and restarted the engine and after putting it into drive, managed to get it to a nearby former chevy dealer. They determined the transmission was totally slipping and required replacement. Chevy stood by the 100k power-train warranty with a no-cost replacement and installed a new transmission, issuing a 12,000 mi warranty. Today, at 111,000 miles, less than 20,000 into the new transmission, the problem returned. The first time it was on flat ground and I was simply a stalled nuisance in traffic. This time, I was going up a hill and had stopped for a light. The car began to roll back down the hill, I had difficulty braking and nearly got struck by a large truck. It would not move forward until I turned off the engine and then with a thuds and jerks I was able to move it to a safe parking spot. This time I did not have the difficulty with the cruise control but did have a bit of what I now recognize was transmission slip but I attributed to the anti-slip brakes on ice. This happened a couple of times. From the early shudders, less than 400 miles elapsed. I was fortunate both times.

41 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 02/29/2004

I currently own a 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS, 3. 8l v6. Before 36,000 miles I took my car to the dealership. The vehicle was running poorly and when it was cold the transmission would slam into gear. Dealer made some repairs and told me the fuel system needed to be serviced. I declined the fuel service at the time and the transmission slamming into gear from a cold start continued. The problem worsened at 47,000 miles. I took the car back to the dealer and after 2 days I was told that the problem was the fuel system service. At 50,000 miles the transmission began slipping severely. I tried to get the car home and it failed to engage while pulling into traffic. I got the car home to perform the 50,000 mile service to the transmission and found a handful of metal in the pan. Had the car towed to the dealership and found out that the transmission was completely totalled. Gm only offered to pay for half the repair costs. There is no recommended service before 50,000 miles and I don't feel I should be responsible for the repairs on this vehicle. I have owned it less than 3 years.

While driving transmission slipped gears and lurched forward. Dealer replaced the original transmission with a rebuilt transmission. The rebuilt transmission also slipped gears and lurched forward. Consumer spoke to the service department manager and said there was a possibility of an axle bearing or bearing failure.
