6 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2017

I bought it used from a used car lot who failed to tell me many things about this car that was very crucial. And now there's a terrible grinding in the steering that has only gotten worse and now it does it all the time and locks up while in park. Lost power steering. . . Turned engine off and back on and regained power steering. There was an issue when I first bought the car in 2016 there was a knocking when turning. Also, there is a lot of noise coming from the driver front tire make it hard to drive because of concern of tire coming off. I just noticed that I can feel vibration under my feet in the front when I exceed 65mph on the hwy. I can feel every bump.

7 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2017

Recently started to lose power steering assistance while driving. Took it to chevy dealer, they said there was a bulletin (not a recall) about a sensor that needed to be replaced. They told me I was within the parameters of the problem but the warranty of part expired. This makes no sense since it is a safety issue.

8 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2016

I intermittently lose power steering, now it is happening every time I drive the vehicle and it is not safe. The wheel begins to take over for its self, so to speak. The wheel will shake some times aggressively enough to be pulling me whichever way it pleases. It even does this at an idle, the VIN is pulling up no recall but the articles on this subject say it is included in the expansion of the recall. I just bought the vehicle sept 24, 2016.

9 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

When driving at low speeds and turning, the car makes clunking noises in the front end. Also, the power steering intermediately is lost when first staring the car. Randomly while driving the car will chime and the display will say power steering. I'm afraid I will lose power steering while driving at higher speeds. To correct this, the dealer will be replacing the intermediate steering shaft and the steering module.

13 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Vehicle suddenly lost power steering, and "power steering" came up on the message center. I have read multiple on-line postings describing the same event that happened to me/this vehicle. It is a 4 cylinder with electric assist power steering. How is it that the 2007 model year escaped a recall from 2004-2006 and 2008-2009?.

14 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

Again, I file a complaint. I lost my power steering, a message was displayed to inform me of the loss. Steering was very difficult to maintain at manual steering. . At this time no recalls were made. On 3/31 a recall was made for Chevrolet Malibu models from 2004 and 2005, and some from 2006, 208 and 2009. Mine is a 2007 and is having the same problems. My auto has been unsafe to drive because of this steering problem. Why isn;t my automobile on the recall list. You corrected the problem for 1 year and then went back to a cheaper way ??????? what was done different to the 2007 models, that they didn;t appear in the recall. I have asked for the phone number odf jeff boyer, gm's newly appointed vice president of global vehicle safety, no one will give me his number.

15 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

I have a 2007 Malibu which I drive back and forth to work everyday on the highway. On wed. 2/26/14 I felt a pulsing vibration while driving on the highway. A short while later I lost the power steering completely which needless to say was very dangerous trying to get to the side of the highway in heavy traffic with no power steering. I had to have my car towed to my local mechanic who told me that the problem was in the electronic power steering system. The parts were ordered at a cost of $856. 54 and the total cost with labor was $1272. 07. I have since been on-line and read page after page of problems with the electronic power steering for this year Malibu. I, as well as many others are wondering why this very dangerous problem has not been handled with a recall. Please advise.

17 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

When starting the vehicle, I receive the 'power steering' message on the dic (dashboard information center) on the radio display, and there is no power steering on the vehicle. When I turn the car off for about 15 seconds and then restart it, the power steering functionality is restored. This scenario has been intermittent for about a week. Also lost power steering while driving (however all other equipment was fine - electrical, engine running), at about 20 mph with same display on dic. Was able to turn car off for same 15 seconds and restart vehicle and power steering was restored. Seeing multiple similar complaints online for same year vehicle with no recall on this model year.

18 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving, at no particular speed, while making a right turn the vehicle lost power steering. When the failure occurred warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel was hard to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the steering column and the module. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 77,279.

19 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

The car lost power steering with no prior notice causing the car to be very hard to drive and unsafe. I have researched and there are tons of people experiencing similar problems with their electrict power steering. The 2005, 2006 and 2008 Malibus have had recalls for the same problem but not the 2007??.

20 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

Traveling 60 mph on mountain pass and power steering alert came up on my radio screen then I lost power steering causing the vehicle to pull hard to one side. I had absolutely no power steering. I pulled the car over and turned the vehicle off. When I turned the vehicle back on it reset itself and the power steering worked again. It has done this to me several times. I travel across the mountain pass several times a month sometimes on very icy roads. If this were to happen on the icy roads, I run a severe risk of a wreck that could easily cause major injury or death.

21 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2013

Randomly losing power steering. Happened once briefly in August 2013. Took it for a diagnostic test immediately after this incident and was told nothing was wrong. Started happening on 12/7/13 and hasn't stopped. I had the car looked at by a mechanic on 12/10/13 who disassembled the steering column/dashboard, etc. And was told that nothing is wrong. On 12/16/13, it was taken to another mechanic, who test drove it and ran another diagnostic test and once again told me nothing is wrong and to pick up my car. Since then, I have been randomly losing the power almost daily to multiple times daily. I commute approx. 30 miles to and from work and have had to drive with no power steering at high rates of speed. To make it worse, the weather has been very bad the past week so I have been a nervous wreck not knowing when the power steering is going to go out. Within the past year, both my airbag and door ajar warnings have come on randomly when I have no door ajar. I wasn't as concerned since they are not an immediate danger. When I lose power steering the car does "ding" and "power steering" flashes on my audio system. If I am able to(not on the freeway)then I pull over, turn the car off and then back on. Sometimes this corrects the problem and sometimes it does not. Sometimes it will go awhile without this happening and sometimes it happens multiple times in a row. I am planning on taking it to a local dealership this weekend and hoping I don't get into an accident in the meantime. When I just spoke to the dealership the gentleman on the phone said that this is a common problem and he knows there are some recalls. From what I can see there are recalls on every year surrounding mine. This is extremely dangerous and something needs to be done. I hope the dealership is able to correct the problem and I don't end up spending hundreds of dollars and this is still going to happen.

22 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The power steering light comes on the radio intermittently, then I hear the alert and a click in my steering wheel and then I lose power steering. This happens while driving without warning.

23 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2012

I got in my car to go to work and when I started it the message power steering showed up on the dic. I shut off the car and restarted it to no avail. Later in the day when I started my vehicle the power steering was back but the steering would pulse back and forth and eventually the message appeared again and I lost power steering. I believe this should be recalled because the power steering goes in and out randomly and when not expecting it could cause an accident and because it happens at all speed it could ultimately lead to death. I know there is a bulletin out for this type of problem but I don't see how and ignition coil has anything to do with the power steering.

24 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

I was in a crowded parking lot and suddenly lost power steering. I nearly hit a pedestrian because I was in the middle of a turn. The power steering continues to fail without warning. When doing some research online about this I found hundreds of entries of the same problem. There are recalls on other models and other years, just not the 2007 Malibu that I have. This electric power steering can fail at any time and is a very dangerous issue. The repair is expensive ($1300. 00) and will not prevent additional failures.

25 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

There are two issues which are occurring with the steering in this vehicle. First, when the car is or is not moving (any speed) the steering wheel "twitches" and moves on it's own. Second, without warning, the vehicle's steering assist stop's working 100% and there is total lost in the power steering. This is the most concerning because it happens while turning corners and while going down the highway at high speeds. Gm recalled a lot of other models for this exact problem but not the chevy Malibu. To top it off, the repairs are going to be astronomical.
