Power steering failure while driving--very dangerous. It is at the shop now for possible repair depending on costs. I've read that this is very costly and that the issue may be an already recall fix.

Gm "special warranty" coverage (but not a recall), 15356. Received documentation attesting to the identified problem. Document advises not to take to dealer unless symptoms manifest themselves as outlined in document. Now, symptoms are clearly evident; electronic power steering has failed. Gm refuses to cover repair because the "special coverage" time limit has elapsed. Unsatisfactory. A recognized manufacturing defect deserves to be repaired at the expense of the manufacturer, not shuffled off to alternative descriptive language (special coverage) which allows them to abrogate their responsibilities under an artificial time limit. Car is unsafe to drive, therefore a liability. Gm is deliberately shirking their maintenance and fiduciary responsibilities and allowing for acknowledged defective cars to continue to be operated on roads in north America. As the opening line of my "recall" letter professes: your satisfaction is very important to us. My reply: my satisfaction is conditional on operating a vehicle that is safe to use; acknowledged safety defects that go unrepaired seriously erode this owner satisfaction as such.
Electronic power steering failure upon start of the vehicle or while driving. You must turn the vehicle off and restart it to reactivate the power steering. Steering wheel will also move back and forth on its own while the vehicle is stationary such as at a stop sign.
The car started having problems with intermittent power steering failures. In curves and turns. Now it is off more than on. It is in yhe same year as the other recalls but not on the list. The vehicle was in motion when it began having the problems.
While driving my Malibu I heard a alarm ding from the dic and the banner read steering then my electric power steering failed as I was driving into a underground parking lot going down the helix to another level I narrowly missed ramming into the side wall as it is a tight turn. Had I not been holding on to the wheel tightly I would have hit the wall . I don't think my wife or daughter could have held the wheel to avoid a crash. I feel this should be recalled and is a major safety issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 20 mph, the power steering malfunctioned. The contact stated that the steering wheel became very stiff and was extremely difficult to turn. The vehicle was diagnosed as having an electrical failure, which caused the power steering to fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
In April of 2015 while driving on the interstate surrounded by other vehicles the electric power steering sensor failed. The power steering warning flashed on the in dash information center and searing the vehicle was nearly impossible. I was fortunately able just avoid several collisions with other vehicles. The following day I brought the vehicle to the dealership to have the sensor replaced. This was not covered under any warranty or recall and I covered the cost of this. Less than two years later this same issue has occurred again. I was driving on back roads that turned in several directions. Going around one corner, following the speed limit the power steering failed. I was unable to control the vehicle and went into ditch on the opposite side of the road. Luckily there were no other vehicles involved. I contacted chevy and was told that they will not to anything to correct the issue, refused to allow me to speak with anyone else and hung up on me. Their suggestion was to contact the dealership that replaced it to see if the would give me a discount for the defective part and claimed it was normal wear and tear. With an electric power steering there is minimal wear as to it is all electric components and they should not have malfunction after being replaced less than two years ago. This is an ongoing problem for this make, model and year and is a serious safety concern.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. On several occasions, the electronic power steering failed to operate as intended. In addition, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The power steering assist randomly fails. There is a safety recall for this, #14772, and I called the manufacturer at the number listed, 1-800-222-1020, and they advised me my VIN was not covered! yet, the vehicle exhibits that exact symptoms of #14772. Several times this has occurred while driving and it nearly caused me to have two different head on collisions! I was driving at 30 mph and the power steering quit and jerked to the left. It made me cross the lane into oncoming traffic. The other drivers abruptly stopped while I got my car back under control. The only way to get it back was to turn off the ignition and turn it back on. I have been told that the total repair cost is over $1200! I cannot afford this. I can not stop driving my vehicle either. This should be covered under the recall at their expense as it is their faulty product. Unfortunately, I do have to keep driving close to an hour to get to work through heavy dallas traffic and by them denying the repairs, they are putting a lot of people at risk of serious injury or even death. Please have them honor the recall for my VIN so we can all be safer out there. Thank you.

Power steering fails intermittently while driving making the car hard to control. While this is happening lights begin to dim and brighten and the traction control light on the dash flashes on and off. This happens everytime I drive the car since I passed 80,000 miles. I am at 90,000 now and it is getting more common. I have seen online that this is a very common problem.
Chevrolet Malibu - power steering assist failure the problem started when we noticed the car's steering twitching and shaking without having any hands on the wheel and this would occur while the vehicle was in park or in gear (drive, reverse, etc. ). Later that night after starting the vehicle, the "power steering" warning light appeared on the information display panel (the screen located just above the radio). At this point it required tremendous effort/strength to turn the car even at low speeds. I think this is a serious safety hazard.

Power steering complete failure while driving.
Power steering fails 99% of the time! I have no power steering at all when I am driving. It has completely fails. It's on for two seconds right when I start my car, shaking back and forth vigorously and then power steering assistance is gone! all manual from then on out! I drive with kids in the car and even bumped into things while turning because I cannot steering! this recall needs to apply to every 2007 chevy Malibu, not just a specific time frame group! it's so dangerous for me to driving even on my own street and highway when I go to work! the wheel shakes when I'm not driving and even in motion even when the power steering fails! I have been waiting to hear back from you for over a month about my vehicle being unsafe to drive, but you must think it's okay for it to be driven since you're not doing anything about it! pretty soon I'm going to be involved in a serious accident and I will be suing gm and potentially ntsha for not reassuring my safety! someone always has to get hurt enorder for someone to fix something!.

The electric power steering completely failed as I was driving up interstate 95 at approximately 65 miles per hour. Luckily I was able to pull safely to the side of the road. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it, which reset the power steering. I drove approximately another mile when the power steering failed again. I again attempted to pull to the side of the highway and restart the car to reset it. This time the power steering did not reset. There is a recall for this exact problem on most other vehicles this year, except for a few months which my vehicle falls into. There are still issues with the vehicles beyond what vehicles are included in recall 14772.

Power steering is intermittently failing to identical conditions noted in the recent extended recall of chevy Malibu's, recall number 14772. I called gm and they said my 2007 Malibu is not part of the recall. This is the second recall for this power steering failure from gm where they are now applying it to additional vehicles. They are obviously missing something because my Malibu is failing also.
On 2-12-2015, I experienced a electric power steering failure on my 2007 chevy Malibue at which time nearly caused me to crash the vehicle when the steering suddenly was extremely difficult to operate. I brought the vehicle to a g. M dealership where they informed me that my vehicle did not fall under the recall for this issue. It appears that this has been an issue with gm vehicles. There is a recall going on for the exact failure I'm having on my vehicle for 1 million vehicles surrounding my model year with an additional 80,000 vehicles added just this week. Could someone please look into this problem it is obvious that with vehicles made before my manufacture date and after that this vehicle should probably fall under the same recall! thank you in advance.
Power steering failed while driving on the highway. Power steering will engage after restarting vehicle, but will fail seconds later with cabin notification "power steering" on the console and audible ringing.

My daughter was driving and the power steering completely failed. She had to muscle the car to turn it around to drive back home. Mechanic is saying the recall skips 2007 series. Taking it in for a second opinion. Had to rent a car because dealers can't even get it in to check it out.
