The Malibu steering wheel shakes while running while stopped and sometimes while driving locks up and stops allowing me to turn, this has happened while driving on city streets as well as on the highway and it is impossible to steer when the steering wheel doesn't turn. I have seen reports that the electronic steering assistance is recalled on newer models of this Malibu but I am having the same issue on this one and I am upset that Chevrolet didn't recall all of the vehicles with this same system and issues.
Steering wheel shakes on its own while idling. Pull car in different directions while driving.
Power steering looses power due to failure of the torque sensor in the steering column. It causes the steering wheel to shake and forcing the car to turn and loose power steering while driving.
The steering wheel shakes when engine is running and the power steering info light appears.
I was driving and my power steering went out making it extremely difficult to turn the wheel. I had to pull over turn the car off and the problem stopped for a few miles then happened again. My steering wheel is now shaking and pulling to one side without being touched. This problem has happened on both city streets and highways, as well as when I start the car.
Electrical power steering randomly gives out while driving the car making it extremely difficult to control car and make turns. Steering wheel shakes a lot when driving or parked. I checked online and Malibu's 2006-2007 have a recall for the same issue. I called chevy service and was told there was no recall for my car with my VIN.
The steering wheel is shaking rapidly while sitting idle.
The car's steering wheel vibrates left to right when the car is turned on. When driving, "power steering" is displayed on the panel making turning very difficult.
A week ago, my power steering has started malfunctioning. The sensor goes off and states error with power steering. In the beginning, steering wheel would shake when idle but now locks up while driving. Upon researching this issue, the gm recall site came up with the same year, make, model and exact condition but after contacting the dealership and gm they stated my vehicle was not part of this recall. This is a very dangerous driving situation as I could not turn the steering wheel when trying to make left or right turns. I have children and could now not even safely drive my own and only form of transportation. Chevy has not helped with my situation whatsoever. My father is a mechanic so vehicle has always been properly maintained and fluids kept at proper levels. Recall number is 14772 and the condition is stated to be caused by a defect where vehicles experience a sudden loss of power steering assist that could occur at any time while driving. Please assist as I cannot drive my vehicle in this condition and will be affecting all aspects of my responsibilities.
Power steering failed while making a turn onto the freeway. Steering wheel locked up and jerked the car to the left and almost made us go off the ramp if we had not gained control. Chime started going off but no light in dash indicating something is malfunctioning. Steering wheel shakes left and right while car is idle and while driving. Chime is frequent while driving because of steering wheel shaking. We have a video of this happening when car was on idle.
Takata recall. Car currently decides when it wants to allow the power steering to work. Sitting still not moving the steering wheel shakes. While driving the power steering will go out with no warning making it difficult to drive in the city or at slow speeds. Contacted local and corporate chevy and neither one could help with the situation.
About a week ago, the steering wheel began to shake very abruptly and rapidly. Eventually the power steering stopped working. At times the steering wheel will work but still continue to shake but typically it becomes almost impossible to steer as the power steering has completely failed. I've seen other articles about this particular issue with cars that are the exact model a year, however chevy does not want to help regarding fixing this issue. I have contacted them and they insist there is no recall however upon a quick google search you can find articles about this issue everywhere.
Loss of power steering . Steering wheel vibrates.
Steering wheel turns by it self, also sitting still ,steering wheel shakes back and forth by its self.
Steering wheels shakes then power steering goes completely out while driving.
Recently experienced loss of steering power in my vehicle more than once while driving at a low speed. It has happened with my teenage son behind the wheel. Turned the car off and restarted to clear out the warning on the radio display. The steering wheel is also shaking/vibrating while the car is sitting idle. I did an online chat with chevy. Of course my vehicle was not on the recall list. I have ~146,400 miles on my car. Just found out there was some type of special assist in place. Of course that option expired for me on 9-1-2017. From what I'm hearing, this will be a costly repair. The repair will probably cost more than what the car is worth. A case number was assigned to me. I have an official diagnosis from the dealer in order to determine if there's any type of assistance for this repair. With so many complaints in place, not sure why gm is not allowing Malibu owners to take their cars to a local dealer for repair at no cost to them. Age of the car should't matter with an obvious ongoing problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. On several occasions, while driving various speeds, the steering wheel vibrated and became difficult to maneuver. The contact heard a ding sound and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact called john l sullivan Chevrolet at (916) 782-1243 (located at 350 automall dr, roseville, CA 95661) and was informed that there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to call NHTSA to file a complaint. The contact was provided a case number. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
As I was driving this evening on my way home the power steering shut off in my car. After the first time it happened I pulled over at a nearby restaurant and restarted my car but the power steering went out again within 5 min again after restarting the car. The steering wheel shakes on its on rapidly right after I start the car and it is idle. . . On the dash power steering comes up with a ding sound just as it is about to go out. I'm unsure if chevy will cover to repair this free of cost but I think it should be fixed for free considering this is highly dangerous for both myself the operator of the vehicle as well as other drivers who are on the road!.
This car is losing electronic power steering while in motion. It will kick back in once car is turned off and turned on again but again will eventually lose it. Also, steering wheel vibrates when the vehicle is started and is stationary. I have video I can send as well.
Power steering light keeps going on when you first start it and when car is restarted it goes off. Steering wheel vibrates back and forth while idling and power steering was going in and out while driving and is now completely out. This happened for about 3 days before power steering went completely out.
The power steering does not work at all. As soon as the car is started up the steering wheel is shaking vigorously. I have to manually drive the car like I am in a video game. There is a recall out for certain models but my VIN is not included in the recall. All 2007 chevy Malibu's need to be included in this recall. It is going to take multiple deaths of people before gm adds all vins to the existing power steering recall.
I got in my car and when I started it the steering wheel started vibrating and jumping. It then became very loose while driving and the all of a sudden while turning the corner the steering wheel locked up. It was very hard to turn the wheel which caused my car to hit the curb and side swipe a parked car. This problem is going to get someone hurt really bad if not fixed.
Steering wheel vibrates, until suddenly the power steering goes out, radio displays a message stating "power steering. " this can happen while driving, while idling, or the power steering simply does not come on when the car is started. It began in 2015 and continues today, growing progressively worse.
Steering became very hard to control. Light flashed on briefly. Steering wheel began to shake. I've looked online and others have complained of a faulty sensor. My wife took it to the dealership today and they refused to repair/replace at no cost.
I was driving down the road the steering wheel started shaking and car was pulling to the left and then the power steering completely stopped working. Had to turn car off and start again then the power steering started working again. This has happened multiple times. When it happens I am usually driving down the road and unable to turn steering wheel. I am scared that when this happens I will not be able to control car, wreck and injury myself my children or others. I looked on online and seen where a lot of people are having the same problem with the 2007 Malibu. I feel this issue is very dangerous and unsafe.
I had been having problems with the steering wheel shaking when slowing down to stop and while being stopped. It got worse over a few days time and then on Wednesday it was extremely bad shaking violently while going at slower speeds. I made an appointment but I had to go to my doctors seeing as I am 8 months pregnant. I parked my car in a parking garage went to the appointment and when I came back to my car and turned it on the power steering message came across the radio screen. I tried to get my car out of the parking space and I was unable to control it and almost hit 2 cars before finally being able to maneuver my car back into its original spot with no steering control. I had to have the car towed to the dealership where they said its as a sensor in power steering but apparently not the same sensor as the one recalled in the 05 06 08 and 09 models. I find this extremely hard to believe considering my car has the same exact problem as those models and 07 was the only year left out. Gm needs to recall this year too how did they just happen to get the right parts and put in the right parts for 1 year and not for the 2 before and after really???? you are putting my and my child at risk while being pregnant because you refuse to take responsibility for the problems with your cars!.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely loose and upon approaching a stop, the steering wheel began to vibrate back and forth independently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician replaced the torque sensor assembly. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 15v064000 (steering). The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The steering tightens up, rack & pinon needs replacement and steering box is malfunctioning. When car was put in park and restarted, the power steering was not working and steering became extremely difficult, almost like manual steering. Steering wheel would shake intermittently. With these conditions, I was advised not to drive this vehicle. With all the complaints about this Malibu and all the problems with the ignition, which is in the steering column, my problems are probably related. To repair would cost around $2000. 00 without labor.
Power steering goes out-steering wheel shakes violently and vehicle is extremely hard to steer and control. Reported this problem via complaint with ntsb and with gm in August 2013. Was advised to have diagnostic testing completed on car. Did that ($110). Now gm is recalling this defect on all years except 2007. Why? same issue as other model years. Gm diagnostics provided report that states power steering column should be replaced. This is no different than all of the other power steering issues in all other model years. The 2007 model should not be excluded!! recall this year as well!!.
I was driving at 55mph when I lost my power steering. This now happens within 5 minutes of driving. When I shut the car off and back on I have power steering for approx 5-10 minutes. When I do have power steering the steering wheel vibrates really bad and moves on its own. I drive 600 miles a week to work on a highway. This is not safe. I called gm and they said to have a diagnostic test done, I did this on Friday 1 25 13. The code was co545. There has already been a recall on 2006 for the same reason, the power steering mechanism should not go out on a car that is 6 years old.
On my 2007 chevy Malibu, the cruise control will shut off by itself going down the road, the brake lights work backwards by step on brake they are off, foot off brake the lights are on. The steering wheel will lock up and have to shut car off and restart to get it to unlock and idling the car the steering wheel shakes and while driving down the road it shakes also. The part of the fuel pump that controls the gas gauge no longer works. I have taken to the dealer and they dont know of any recalls as of yet. But I have researched and have found this to be common problems, so why arent there any recalls?.
Upon starting the car the power steering indicator came on and there was no power steering. I had to shut the car off and turn it back on. This has happened over 10 times since the first time. The steering wheel has vibration when turning to the left like the motor is skipping. Gm needs to do a recall on these before someone gets killed. I am considering getting a petition together to see about a class action lawsuit to force them to repair these defects.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the steering wheel would shake violently intermittently. The dealer diagnosed that the steering wheel column would need replacing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but was unable to assist the contact. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.
When braking for a stop the car shudders and shakes. The steering wheel vibrates and the sounds are horrible. It sounds as if the dashboard is going to fall out on your lap. We have had the brakes serviced on multiple occasions (rotors replaced, turned) and at one time the front axle was replaced being suspected of being bent. (it wasn't. Cost $1600. 00+) there are many stories of this occurrence on the internet forums and nothing is being done about it by the manufacturer. We own cars that are freaking scary to drive and impossible to sell. Having to stop in an emergency or very quickly may not even be possible the shaking is so violent.
2007 chevy Malibu lt i4, about 45,000 mile. From 2010 summer, steering wheel keeps shaking left and right, may lose power steering assistance and cause crash. Called chevy and being told not under powertrain warranty.
