Steering Wheel Vibrate problems of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Power steering light comes on and steering wheel shakes and locks up.

My car lost power steering while driving. After turning the car off and back on sometimes power steering comes back, sometimes it doesn�t. If it does come back now my steering wheel shakes violently and if I'm driving down the highway I can feel it pulling me side to side as it rocks back and forth on its own.

Recently bought a Malibu 2009 ,4 cylinder. When I bought the car the steering wheel was shaky as I drove the car. After a 4 days of purchase I went on the freeway and the service esc / power steering came on the dash board . I exited the freeway when making a left turn it was difficult to turn the steering wheel . I pulled over to the side and turned the car off and then back on the car was again drivable but after about 5 mins the car did the same thing again and I could not manage to steer the wheel to make left or right turns.

My vehicle has lost steering after starting several times over the last week. My info screen displays an esc and power steering message and my steering wheel is locked in place. Once the car is shut off and restarted the messages go away and steering is back to normal. I have found a recall related to this on certain vehicles of my year/make/model and also many forums of people having the same issues. However, when searching by VIN it says my vehicle has 0 recalls. I have also noticed when my vehicle is stopped, or in park my steering wheel will shake for a moment and then stop.

While sitting idle my steering wheel shakes erratically. Sometimes when I start the car the service esc and power steering shows on my dash, when I turn the car off and back on again it will not appear again and the steering is back. The steering wheel shakes while driving if I turn the steering wheel slightly to one side it stops. It seems to happen when it is very cold out.

I called gm because my steering wheel is vibrating and I am loosing power steering. They informed me that there was a special repair window and not a recall. They informed me that I was not notified about this and that they window has passed so they will not be doing any repairs. The wheel shakes when turning the wheel and looses power steering.

Start the car and esc is off and power steering is off. Shut the car off, restart and it comes on. Sometimes it takes a couple of times. Also when it is on and sitting with the car in drive, the steering wheel shakes back and forth.

Sudden loss of power steering while driving back around Nov 2019. Steering wheel shaking when the problem first began almost as if it was switching between having power steering to no power steering. Service esc power steering message. A few months later the problem suddenly went away. Now it's Feb 2021 and it started doing it all over again a couple months ago (Nov 2020). My VIN is not included in the recall even though other 2009 models were recalled for the same issue. Gm needs to step up and fix this on their own dime.

Steering wheel randomly loses power and will not move or is very difficult to move. It happens at start up or while in motion. Definitely a safety hazard. The steering wheel also shakes or twitches at slow speeds or at a stop.

The power steering message comes on when you start the vehicle and then says esc off. Steering wheel won't turn. Turn the car off and most times if u turn the steering wheel while starting the car it will go off. Other times it takes 2 to 3 times of restarting. Tonight driving home the power steering light came on and the steering went out. Had to pull over and turn off the car and restart it. The steering wheel is shaking and vibrating all the time now.

Electronic power steering stops working randomly and then just stops with messages: power steering, service esc, esc off. Power steering stopped working driving on the expressway in the middle of traffic and in regular city driving which is completely unsafe. Steering wheel also shakes back and forth by itself. It happens while driving, while at a red light. This could be potentially dangerous due to not being able to steer away quick enough because of the strength needed to turn the steering wheel.

In my 2009 chevy Malibu the second day of buying this car the power steering goes out and the traction control light turns on along with the power steering service esc warning shows up below! the steering wheel shakes when stopped at a light or in park! there are many recalls on this I have seen on the GMC website but it still hasn't shown up on my vehicle VIN so it has been very difficult to drive!.

While driving on the interstate my steering wheel began to shake and vibrate rapidly. I then heard a ding followed by the messages, "service power steering" "service esc" " esc off". I was able to exit the interstate and get to a gas station before the wheel completely locked up. I turned the car off for about 45 mins and found that when I turned my car on it was "fine. " I ended up having it towed. I found out that this is a common issue with this car and my car isn't a part of last year's recall.

One day, I found out through a random person that there are recalls on the car. I had been having trouble out of the steering wheel shaking a lot while driving, as if it wasn't connected to the wheels. I will cause me to lose control a little bit and swerve. Then after it shakes a lot, the power steering light would pop on on the dashboard. So I took the car back to the dealer to be fixed. They said they fixed it, but it was still shaking. Once I got it home, it stop working, would not start up. So I had them to send a tow to pick it up. After checking it, I was told it was the electrical system and I had to pay for that. I mention to them that the steering was still shaking also. They said they would check it again. After I was told it was fixed, I went and picked it up. As soon as I drove away, the steering was still shaking. I did not want to take it back because they were charging me everytime they had to do a diagnosis on the car. The steering is still shaking and bad, after two checks. It causes me to swerve while driving and I never know when it might happen. I can't teach my daughter how to drive because I never know when it may shake. After two fixes and it still shakes, I feel like this can't be fixed by the parts they are required to put on the car to stop it.

While driving down the highway at 60mph at approximately 8pm on Feb 26, my steering wheel began to vibrate and then the driver info display panel showed power steering and service esc. I then lost all power steering in my vehicle. This made it extremely difficult to steer and operate safely. Luckily I was able to get the vehicle off the highway safely. The next day, I took the vehicle to my dealer and was told that the power steering torque sensor needs replaced. I did research and discovered that a similar recall was issued for the electronic power steering on 2009 Malibu's , but my VIN was not included in the recall. I am unclear as to why. I contacted gm/Chevrolet and was told I am not covered and am now holding a bill for almost $600. I was shocked to learn that my vehicle was not covered. Additionally, I was not even aware that my vehicle did not have hydraulic power steering.

As I was driving my steering wheel start shaking out of no were and stop at the store and started it back and my steering is locked up and hard to turn.

I was driving at highway speed (approx. 75 mph) the steering wheel began to shake and the traction control to turn on and off. Then suddenly I had no power steering. This happened to me at night and suddenly, with our any warning. It is concerning to me that this problem has not been recalled! I found it to be extremely challenging not to loose control of the car since I had been traveling comfortably at 75mph, then suddenly had no power steering. I cannot stress the danger of this occurrence and the possible unfortunate outcome had my wife been driving with my kids in the car. This needs to be recalled now. . . . Do not wait until it has cost someone their life!.

I have a 2009 Malibu, a little over 73000 miles. 7/21/2013 while in park the steering wheel started shaking and pulsing. I turned the car off and restarted it and it stopped. I got on the interstate and the steering wheel started shaking and pulsing and shifting. I have to keep 2 hands on the wheel as not to be shifted from lanes. I take the car Wednesday to a gm dealership. They told me it wasn't calibrated after an alignment, and they calibrated it done and alignment and rotated the tires. I pay $220 for this service and leave. I get home with no problems. Very next morning Thursday, I start my car and it starts the same thing all over again. It shakes and pulses all the way to the dealership while shifting me in lanes. After waiting for around an hour and a half, I am told the electrical power steering motor is out and it is nearly $700. This is $920 for a motor in a 4 year old vehicle with 73000 miles. This vehicle is not safe considering if you do not have 2 hands on the vehicle and paying very close attention you may end up in up in the lane beside you. I have researched this online and found 100s of complaints concerning this same problem. I am amazed this has not been recalled. I am very disappointed with gm.

I have an 2009 chevy Malibu and the problem is that the steering wheel shakes and it will shake at a stop light and while im driving . When it shakes while im driving it feels like its beginning to lock up. I took it to the dealer and they say its from a powersteering problem and its because it is electrical powersteering.
