Son driving home from college, loses power steering and traction control light comes on. Readout bar service power steering and esc. There are several recalls on this exact problem and exact year of vehicle but his vehicle VIN is not included. So irritating when manufacturers will not stand behind and fix a known issue. . . Clearly they know the ramifications, they have a recall already!.
Intermittently loses power steering and service esc, power steering lights come on in the dash. This has happened during normal in town driving. When we turn it off the system will rest, but comes on now at random intervals. Several times today.
Service esc light comes on and loses power steering while at highway speeds at least 3 times per week, especially in colder conditions. ! due to this issue, this car is off limits to my wife. I would not want power steering to go out on her while she's going down the rod with our 4 month old in the car. Numerous complaints on forums regarding this particular year make and model. Please help!.
I have a 2009 chevy Malibu 2. 4 that I purchased. My vehicle has under 150 mile and runs exceptional. Driving down the road the other day and power steering light came on and I lost all power steering in a turn thankfully I was able to recover the vehicle turning direction quickly barely missing a pedestrian on side walk. I got the vehicle to turn in to a near by gas station parking lot and parked. I turned off the vehicle and let it sit for a min. Not sure what to do? I turned the vehicle on and there was no power steering light that came on everything was back to normal. Like it didnt even happen. I was able to get the car home. I had codes read on the Malibue to see what needed to be fixed no codes even showed up on the screen. I chalked it up to a scary fluke. I've drivin the car with out any issue until today I started the car and before I even got off the gravel road I live on the same thing happened again. Once I turn the car off and back on as before the power steering issue goes away. This isn't safe at all.
Driving at about 60 mph on a straight away, car lost power steering and sensor light service esc/power steering started flashing. The steering felt no different prior to losing, no noises. Drove it this way until I reached my destination about 4 miles away. Car sat for 4 hours, turned it back on and had regained all steering and no warning lights came back on. I have noticed that for about the past 4 years, during the colder months, the service esc/service traction notification will randomly pop on for no other reason then the cold and I lose tire traction. Pretty positive this is what caused me to slide off the road 2 years ago. Whenever I have taken it to dealership for analysis, they claim they can't find anything wrong, because the light pops off as quick as it comes on. I have also specifically asked about and looked up a recall for this, and when my VIN is entered it shows that it is not needed. I found the recall from 2014 for the power steering issue, so either the prior owner had it fixed and it didn't last, or it was never done to begin with because something is definitely wrong here. This is obviously a major issue and the first time I have lost my steering. I have owned this vehicle for 7 years, staying on top of all required maintenance and then some. Gm needs to get a fix for this!!!.
I was driving down the road ( a country backroad and not a highway luckily), and suddenly my car lost all power to the powertrain. I was going about 45 when it happened, and I lost power steering, all power to the motor, and my brakes were incredibly hard to push. After this happened, the car has a no start no crank condition. If I were in the middle lane of a highway, or a the right lane of a busy highway or freeway, or even just going around a sharp curve, I have no doubt that I would have wrecked.
Driving on the road and all of a sudden lost power steering assist.
Power steering goes out and the traction control light comes on and service esc message comes across the message center. Turn the car off and back on and the light goes out, power steering comes back for a second then the light trips again and it's out again. I have lost power steering while driving down a highway and also while backing out of my driveway. It is not safe to drive this car. If I am in the middle of a turn and I loosing power steering, I have to slow down and pull over to turn off the car and hope that power steering turns back on.
The service esc light comes on and the low traction light(car icon) comes on and I lose power steering. When I start the car these sensors come on and I lose power steering. Sometimes I'll start it and the sensors are off then I have power steering then I'll start driving and something trips those sensors to come on and I lose power steering. This starred in January 2020.
I lose power steering while I'm driving. I have to stop and restart my car. After driving a few minutes the light comes on and says esc and I lose power steering again.
Today I lost power steering again (also happened 2 times about a month ago). I was driving in downtown madison WI today when it happened, very unsafe situation. Gm's website says there was a recall for some 2009 Malibus in 2014, but when I just called gm now they say my vehicle wasn't included in the recall. But obviously, there is an issue with my vehicle. Based on all the other complaints on the website, gm should be forced to recall these vehicles again! this time, all of them.
Power steering service light comes on and lose power steering! it has done it while turning mostly and it doesn't matter what the temperature is outside! 3 times this week alone! it has happened on while in motion on city streets lately & I have less than 80,000 miles on 2009.
My car is the 4 cylinder with electric power steering and when driving it and making a turn I lose all power steering, the traction control light comes on turning off the traction control and the esc service light comes on. My car was not on the recall list but is having the same problem as cars on the recall list.
I have a 2009 chevy Malibu . Recall webisite reflects numerous recalls regarding my auto , make and model. While driving on a 6 lane hwy,, I have lost power steering twice. Which is almost impossable to control. Also, the automatic locks have stopped operating even when pressing the door auto lock/ unlock button . You can hear then trying to function however does not. Also, while sitting in park, I crank my car and shift to reverse, my car does not go into reverse. Sometime it will hit very hard and sometime not go into gear at all. I place my car in drive and move forward then to reverse , the car goes into reverse . On other occasions , I turn the car off, re-crank it and its fine. These problems are listed as recalls for the make and model of my auto however, doesn't apoear under my VIN when I search. What can I do I am affraid for my safety while driving my car and also reluctant to drive it. These issues need to be resolved as they appear as recalls. When you loose control while driving and your safety is in jeopardy, its time to expect results.
"power steering failure". Our 2009 Chevrolet Malibu lost its power steering with no warning when my wife was driving home from work. Fortunately she was able to pull over on the highway. She turned the car off then restarted and it worked again. It worked for a few days then failed completely again when she was going shopping. Chevrolet is recalling many vehicles with this problem including many 2009 Malibu's. For some reason Chevrolet tells us our 2009 Malibu is not included. This is outrageous! my wife was shook up terribly and can not drive it till it gets fixed ( at great expense). Believe the problem is a failure of the electric power steering mechanism/sensor. This is a very serious safety issue and Chevrolet should be held accountable and responsible for correcting this problem on all affected vehicles. Thank you.
Randomly loses power steering, I was leaving a concert sitting still went to move the car and no power steering, turned the car off and restarted it and had power steering again, that was the 2nd time it had happened, the first time I was in a drive thru again sitting still went to move and no power steering turned car off then on and power steering came back.
My esc light came on randomly while in park and I lost power steering. Shut the car off and then back on it was fine, light went away. A few days later driving down the highway esc light comes on, wheel begins shaking and lost power control, tried to pull off and turn the car off, like before, the light will not go off. No power steering at all in my car for about 3 days.
When diving I lose power steering. This has happened to me 4 times now I have had the car since April of 2018. An everything checked out in good health.
My steering wheel aggressively shakes when I'm in park, at slow speeds and at higher speeds. The esc off displays on the dash and I lose power steering. This use to happen rarely, but now it is almost every time I start my vehicle. Even when I'm able to start the vehicle without this warning displaying, it is still very difficult to control the vehicle at any speed due to the shaking. This started 3 years ago and has gotten progressively worse since.
On may 13, 2018 at aprox 7:30am, I was traveling on CT-9 highway at 55mph preparing to exit the highway when suddenly car alert chimes came on and warning message about "service power steering"and I lost power steering as I was exiting. I had difficulty making a left turn at the end of the exit and pulled over to investigate. Shut car off and inspected under hood/belts, everything ok. Restarted car and message went away and car handled normally again.
When driving you lose power steering and cant turn the wheel they have this recal on some of the Malibu cars.
The power steering light came on while driving on I-57 expressway at a speed of 55 mph and I lost my power steering. When I stoped the car and restarted it 30 minutes later the warning was gone and my power steering worked. I'm now afraid to drive my car on the expressway after reading about this same problem on a chevy Malibu forum.
In both motion as well as stationary the traction control light comes on and lose power steering.
Lost power steering when attempting to leave the driveway. Low speed. Electric power steering unit failed. I have not received any information or recall notice for this problem. I have parked the car until I determine how best to proceed with repairs.
Have lost all power steering, sensor is messed up, brakes are barely working, why wasn't a recall issued for all 2009 Malibus? this is beyond dangerous.
I lost power steering while driving. My esc light came on at the same time as a warning about my power steering. This has happened intermittently since 1/19/18. It is very hard to control the car at this point, of course and is a safety issue. My car is also very well-maintained.
My 2009 Malibu has an intermittent steering and traction control problem. I was turning into my driveway (under 10mph) and lost power steering and traction control, almost hit our snowmobile trailer the first time. The message center displayed both. There is a recall (recall number 14v153000) for other 2009 Malibu's for the electric power steering but not for the 4 cylinder model like mine. This is a common safety problem with gm and I done understand why some cars with the same safety problems and parts were excluded from the recall.
Lost power steering ability-turns off and on at certain times. Occurs while driving or is already on immediate to starting car. Very difficult to turn wheel. All other VIN's were fixed or replaced by gm for this exact same problem.
Was driving the car to work, stopped at mc donald's to get breakfast in the drive through. Left mc donald's was curving onto the on ramp to 291 hwy when I lost power steering almost causing me to go off the side of the road. A warning message was displayed. I then got the car pulled over and turned off the vehicle. When I turned the vehicle on everything was ok. It has done this on multiple occasions.
I have a 2009 chevy Malibu 4 cyl with electric power steering. It is having the same issues as the rest of the recalled Malibu's but mine is not on the recall list. The power steering light flashed shuts off the traction control and loses power steering while going down the highway.
When starting my car the esc light comes on and I lose power steering. If I shut the car off and jiggle the steering wheel and then turn the car back on it usually works fine until I shut the car off again. I took it to a mechanic who checked the error code and it came up "c0545". So now my whole steering column needs to be replaced. Why was my car not included in the recall if it's doing the same thing as the ones that were recalled???? I have roughly 133,000 miles on it.
While in park and engine running, steering wheel shimmies and shakes. While driving the steering wheel shimmies and slips. Gives a sense that steering control will be lost. On occasion the "eps" and "power steering" warnings come on and the car loses power steering making it very difficult to steer the car while driving.
I purchased this vehicle in 2011. On four occasions the car has lost power steering. It happens while turning. I have to pull over, turn the engine off and back on again in order for the power steering to function. It has happened on a city street as well as while exiting the highway.
Driving this car loses its power steering. Gm states my car is not included in recall even though they installed a defective sensor.
I intermittently lose power steering on the vehicle while driving. The information display flashes that the power steering and traction control are disabled. This occurs both when stationary and while moving. I received a letter from Chevrolet in regards to this problem and was advised by the letter to take it in to the dealer if this problem existed. When I took it in to have the repair done, I was told that it was not doing it at that time and that there was nothing they could do. I called Chevrolet customer assistance center and was told the same thing. I was told that basically I had to wait until it failed again and hope that it did not cause an accident by the customer service representative before they could do anything about it.
