Driving down interstate and the power steering just quit. Fought it across two lanes and managed to pull off to side of road I had no power assist at all. Turned the engine off waited a few minutes and started back up power steering was fine. Drove few miles down interstate lost the power steering again. I could get off road turn off car and start back up and power steering would work for while managed to get home and havent driven since. I looked up and found there is a recall on certain 2009 Malibu your campaign number 14v153000 and my car is doing exactly what that recall describes but local chevy dealer said they couldn't repair under that campaing because my ven number (1g1zh57b59f161337doesn't show up with a recall for power steering. Driving down the interstate at 70 mph and having you power steering go out is a major safety concern and like I said its exactly what your campaign describes. Please help.

37 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

Driving vehicle around a curve when esc light came on and lost power steering. Parked car over night and waited for dealership to open. After research, realized the vehicle has a recall number of 14v252 which may root of the problem. When I turned on the vehicle to take to the dealer, the light was off and power steering returned. While driving to the dealer, light came on and lost power steering again.

I was driving at around 45mph and suddenly lost power steering assistance, making it difficult to steer, and increasing the risk of a crash. The problem persists. There have already been multiple recalls for this issue but my car is not included in these recalls.

I had just left the expressway and was waiting to enter traffic. When it cleared I started up and lost power steering. This also happened two days before on 11-12-2014. The first incident was this last February. I called chrevrolet and they said that my VIN. Number did not show up on the recall for loss of electronic power steering but yet I see that 2008 to 2009 Malibus are under this recall. This information is clearly on your web site. I am aware that my vehicle could very well have had a faulty power steering unit installed. I feel that this is a hazard. The problem is the same as listed for the recall.

So far, I have lost power steering 3 times while driving. This is the exact issue for which the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu has already been recalled. However, my 2009 was manufactured in a month not covered by the current recall. This is an extremely dangerous defect as it can result in an accident or loss of life.

I lost my power steering. The dealer had to replace it. My son who has a 2004 chev Malibu had a recall for the same problem and I can't understand why there hasn't been a recall on the newer ones. I had to pay $400 - it could have been a disaster if I was on the thruway. Luckily I was in a parking lot when it happened.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle lost power steering and the tcs light illuminated. The contact also mentioned that the failure was experienced multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the torque sensor assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 14v153000 (steering) but was informed that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
