I brought my vehicle into a Chevrolet center near me to have a manufacturers warranty fix done to my vehicle on 04/17/2021, as the power steering had failed and I was able to get this fixed for free. When I turned my vehicle on and noticed the power steering notification on my dash, I tried to back my car out of where I was parked and move my wheel, but could not move the wheel. When the part was replaced, I was told that there were still sensors on my dash indicating that I needed the esc and stability traction control serviced for my car. According to the Chevrolet dealership, this had nothing to do with the special policy fix and not something they would be fixing for me. After checking the NHTSA. Gov for any recalls on my 2012 chevy Malibu, I found one from may 2014 that described exactly the problem I was having with my vehicle: loss of vehicle stability traction control, cruise control and random illumination of brake lights. I contacted chevy once again about this recall, to which they said there was no recall for the vehicle, and if there was it was already fixed. Not only was this completely unprofessional and lacking concern of safety for my child and I, I do not know where to turn to for this to be remedied. Attached is the ticket for the initial fix I had done.

While driving the cruise control will be set and all of a sudden turn off. The gauges on the dash would sporatically jump up and down and sometimes flatline as if the car was off. When braking the cruise control would engage if my hand pressed the button llocated on the steering wheel causing the vehicle to speed up while trying to slow down. The brake lights would be on while driving without pressing the brakes and would turn on once brakes were pressed. Recall work was reported to be completed January 2015 but problems still persist. There is also a bulletin for special coverage that is limited to 150,000 miles which I don't recieve because my vehicle is over that mileage but the dangers of the vehicle still persist. These problems have been present since I purchased the car 2 or 3 years ago. The last incident happened just 2 days ago. I cantacted chevy and they said they couldn't cover it because of the miles.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the rear brake light remained illuminated. Additionally, while driving and while depressing the brake pedal, the rear brake lights would fail to illuminate as needed. The vehicle was taken to spitzer Chevrolet (33 e aurora rd, northfield, OH 44067) who attached the wiring harness to the bcm with a spacer and applied di-electric lubricant to the bcm and harness connector however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was repaired for the same failure several times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,281.
The steering wheel moves back and forth on its own while idling. It gets hard to steer when the traction light comes on. The light above our heads don't work. The brake light comes on while we're driving when I'm not pressing on the brakes. The tire pressure don't work to let us know how much air is in the tire and the tire caution light is on at all times. The front fender on the bottom is broke. We just bought this vehicle last month.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in, and repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). After the vehicle was repaired, the esp system with the warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the braking system activated without the brake pedal being depressed. Additionally, on occasions, the brakes failed to operate as intended with the brake pedal depressed. The contact stated that the brakes functioned opposite to what was intended. The failure was intermittent but started occurring more frequently. The contact contacted the local dealer who confirmed the failure however, the dealer was not able to do the repair under the recall. The contact was informed that in 2017 the manufacturer released information for a special coverage regarding the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000.
The center brake light doesn't work. I put in a new led light assembly in and it still doesn't work.
Exterior brake lights come on & cruise control shuts off. When in motion.
The brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed. The brake lights fail to illuminate when the brake pedal is pushed. This has been an on going problem and we only realize it still exists when one of our family is following the 2010 Malibu in another car. We had brought the vehicle in to a Chevrolet service center in the past and were charged for a "repair". When we again noticed the problem we brought the vehicle into a firestone service center and they charged us for a "repair". We just noticed the problem again and now are afraid to drive the vehicle. A search of the VIN shows no unrepaired recalls so we are not sure if the original owner had already brought it in (we are the second owner) or if this particular VIN was not thought to be affected. Regardless, it sounds like a known problem and we are hoping not to have to pay a third time and then still have an issue. Please let us know our options. Thank you in advance.
The brake lights stay on while driving or they will not come on while stopping then the service esc comes on along with service traction light it happens while driving at random times not always an issue there was a recall performed on vehicle in the past for same issue but now can't get service ţo relook at that problem because it doesn't come back brake lamp malfunction comes back brake apply sensor had replaced same issue 2 hours later.
The third brake light cracked in three places and now water is in the car and trunk. I saw special coverage for the car just for this issue but the dealership states it isnt covered for my VIN. . Also, there is a popping noise under the car when I take off, turn curves, get out of the car etc. Seems to be bushings wearing out and is a well known problem. Again, my car is not covered.
The 3rd brake light comes on and off.
The nuts used to fasten 3rd brake light are not locking nuts therefor loosen causing the 3rd break light to filter to loosen and break. This also causes flooding in the trunk of the vehicle. I had 2 inches of water in the spare tire compartment along with a soaked trunk which caused a terrible smell. You will see in the pictures I have tried to repair the broken plastic on the break light with an epoxy mix. Replacement would be better. I think breakage is caused because the nuts loosen.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle brake lights would flash without depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the esc and tcm service warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Third rear brake light leaks/allows water into inside of car and frame cracks on both sides. Water leaks into headliner and trunk and stains interior. Car smiles humid. Happens very time it rains and wash car. This is the second time this has happened. First time parts were replaced, second parts still have the same problem and issue still occurs. Poor quality parts.

Service eas warning light comes on. Then the rear brake lights stay on. The service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. This is extremely dangerous & unsafe.
I dropped my 2010 Malibu (1g1zb5eb1af245129) off at matick chevy on 1/10/2020. I called 1/11/2020 and was told there was no charge and it was ready for pick up. That's all I was told. I didn't make it home before the same problem occurred: service traction error light on the dash board and all 3 brake lights are on - when no one is pressing on the brake. The car is in the garage and all 3 brake lights are on - no one is in the vehicle. . . I'm driving down the highway and all 3 brake lights are on - I'm not braking. This is a serious safety concern. Today is 1/19/2020 and I still don't have my vehicle and have not received a call - despite leaving a message for the service mgr, mike, on 1/16/19. He advised that this vehicle is covered under a special warranty program or policy - 150,000 miles or the year 2025. The vehicle is 10 years old - dealerships don't fix anything for free, so that "special program" is indicative of the company taking responsibility and knowing that you have a problem with this vehicle. I have owned gm products all my life and for the first time do not know if my loyalty to the manufacturer or brand will continue. I am very disappointed in the way this situation has been handled. The vehicle have been serviced for this same problem twice previously. The only saving grace is that I demanded a loaner. Please help.
My 09 chevy Malibu lt brake lights will illuminate without the brake pedal being pressed. Therefore signalling to other drivers that I am slowing, when in fact I am not. Also when the brake pedal is deliberately pressed to indicate the vehicle is slowing, the lights go out entirely, signalling to other drivers that I am not slowing down when in fact I am! this is a huge safety issue! I parked my vehicle today January 1, 2020 to test the functionality of my brake lights and the brake lights illuminated while I was outside of the vehicle, indicating I was pressing the brake pedal. Once the pedal was compressed, the rear lights went out entirely indicating the brake pedal was not compressed. Also the cruise control of the vehicle has never worked properly since purchasing the vehicle. It will not initiate or maintain set speed causing fluctuations in travel speed. So I refuse to use the feature as this too is a real safety concern.
My brake lights are coming on by themselves and when I press the brakes it goes off but my brake light want work at all it a big safe issue.
Brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights do not illuminate when the pedal is pushed. ; difficulty moving the gear shifter out of the "park" positions without pushing the brake. Gm says there was never a recall, but a service bulletin was issued in regards to this problem.

The high-mount brake light will light (and stay lit) without the brake being depressed. When the brake is depressed using normal force to slow the car, the light will go off. When the brake is depressed further as if to stop the vehicle, the light comes back on. This behavior is intermittent.
Brake lights remain on while pedal's not activated, and turn off when pedal is pressed. Esc and traction error messages appear while driving, usually when coming to a complete stop at any given time. The lighting issue seems to coincide with the appearance of said error messages.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving various speeds, the rear brake lights seized intermittently. Corning Chevrolet Buick (2087 solano st, corning, CA 96021, (530) 838-4371) was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact replaced the bulbs multiple times, but the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The brake lights illuminate and stay on while driving when the brake pedal is not pressed. The brake lights turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. The car routinely displays "service esc" and " service traction" messages.
Hello, my car is having the issues described in recall number 13036, my brake lights turn on while not pressing the brake and sometimes when braking do not turn on at all. My VIN # says that my car was not included however my car is experiencing the issues described. This all happens when the car is driving.
Water poured into the back seat and onto my son. Took car to dealership where diagnosed that third center brake light is not sealed and leaking water. Same issue as all other 9th gen Malibus (2016+ model years). Did not notice leak until 43,000 miles, out of warranty. Who knows how long it has been there! many parts ruined and potentially moldy from water damage. Gm customer care said the repair is $4300 of which they want me to pay $1900 despite this being a design or production flaw.
Brake light constantly fluctuating without the brake being pressed, very dangerous for me and my child, headlights constantly going out specifically the front passenger side, almost go cause an accident and people thing I'm the one pressing the brakes, it does this when driving or when it parked, if I tap the brake it'll go off for a few second then come right back on. Also car keep throwing a code saying it's running rich even tho I can locate the problem I believe it has something to do with a senseor or wiring or the fuel injector, if there are any recalls for this vehicle I would lie for them to be fix all at once because I have to use this card daily for myself and my daughter and I just want it to be safe for my child and I as well as other drivers in the road.
Brake lamp recall for these models do not work. I noticed the issue recently while driving home from work at around 55 mph at night. My brake lights are on, while my foot is off of the brake pedal. When I place my foot on the brakes, the brake lights go off. This is a serious driving hazard. I've taken the car to get the recall handled, but noticed this morning, that my brake lights are still illuminating when my foot is off the brake pedal.
While in motion brake light stays on.
Takata recall, as I was dropping my daughter off at the bus stop I tried to pull back up to my house and the power steering came on and the wheel was hard to turn while my vehicle was in motion and there was alot of cars coming my way as I was trying to turn. I told my husband about it he went to check that it had power steering fluid in it and it was not low at all then he got in it to drive and it worked just fine. That was a scary experience for me. Another incident when I went to go get my car inspected the third brake light would not come on but when I went to my mother in laws it worked just fine and when I left to go home lastnight it was coming on when I wasn't even pushing the brakes so me and my husband figured it was a shortage in it or the wires need replaced. Someone needs to do something about this before there be an accident. I was doing some research about my vehicle and I seen that it had serveral recalls. The manufacturer recall #: n130036 the NHTSA recall #: 14v252.
Brake lights stay on while driving and brake light goes off when stepping on the brake pedal. The lights are intermittently working and I've taken the car to get the problem taken care of, but it returns.
Warning on dashboard service traction control when applying the brakes. Brake lights does not come on when the service traction control come on. There has been a recall on this issue previously and issue still occurring.
