Turn Signal Flasher Unit Problems of Chevrolet Malibu - part 1

Turn signals and hazard lights work when they want to, which began last year 07/07. I replaced fuses to see if this was the problem. It continues to happen. After almost being rear-ended with my infant son in a carseat the back seat as my turn signals flashed twice and failed I found out later there had been a recall on the hazard/turn switch on the 2000 models of Malibu and not the 99's.

2002 Chevrolet Malibu, turn signals stop working. The fuse is good for the turn signals, light bulbs for turn signals are good and hazards work.

My family's 2002 chevy Malibu's turn signal flashers are intermitently failing. The problem began yesterday, 7 June 2006, and reoccured today, the 8th of June, 2006. I notice that NHTSA had a recall pending on this exact issue, but it appears to have been closed. Why, and what is NHTSA doing about the problem in lieu thereof?.

1999 Malibu v6 with 70,000 miles. Turn signals have become erratic. I replaced the fuse, and it worked, but again at times, they don't work, and at times, they do. No real pattern. Sometimes, they work in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon, some times, when the engine is cold, and sometimes warmed up.

The turn signals quit without warning, this has been going on for about two months . The consumer attempted to use the turn signals and was almost struck from behind when she realized the turn signals were not working. The vehicle was has not been to a dealer yet. Turn signals on my 2001 chevy Malibu stopped working. The bulbs aren't burned out so must be an electrical problem (I'm guessing) at first the signals would work for a few days then stop for a day but now its been 4 days and the signals don't work at all. Also the air conditioning system doesn't "blow" on levels 1-4 only on level 5.

My vehicle is a 2002 Malibu 1. Exterior turn signal lights do not light up even thought the dash signal is indicating that they are blinking and dashboard turn signal lights do not light up at all 2. Had no idea if I was signaling to other motorists my intention to turn - still do not know if signals are working 3. Took the vehicle to Chevrolet service - they worked on it for hours charging me by the hour and could not identify the problem.

Turning signal don't work and hazard lights don't work. Can't rely on them in traffic. I had them on and was on the freeway and they went out as I was trying to change lanes. I am told the hazard switch is bad and will cost 100$ to fix. I notice on your web site that most of the complaints on this make, model, and year are the turning signals and hazard lights. I would like to know why there is no recall on something that is needed for safe driving. And if you can please push a recall for the safety of us drivers. Thank you.

Turn signal and flasher would intermittently turn on, making it difficult for vehicles in the rear to see when driver needed to turn. Consumer will take vehicle to dealer for check up.

Turn signals failed to come on when applied. Consumer heard a sound while turning on the turn signals. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the signal light flasher unit needed to be replaced. The consumer stated that the turn signals would work sometimes and not other times. Gm issued a recall for exact same problem but only covered Feb 2000 through may 2001. The consumers vehicle is a 1999 not covered in the recall. (recall # 03v327000). Tc.

While turning turn signal flasher light failed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I own a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu and I am having the same problems with my turn signals as many others are as well. Gm had a recall on the 2000 Malibu but told me that my vehicle was not required to recieve a recall based on the VIN number but they would fix it for a fee. I think gm should fix mine since they already addressed the problem and it sounds sounds the same as the recall. I think this is a very serious problem that is very dangerous.

The turn signals / hazard flashers on my 2000 Chevrolet Malibu do not work properly. This is an important problem that could result in an accident. I reached my dealer who was helpful however they said they could not rectify this problem as the vehicle has not been recalled. Recall 03v327000, concerning hazard warning switch. Intermittently turn signal will not work. A recall was issued for this problem, but consumer's vehicle was not included due to VIN.

Hazzard lights and turn signals work intermintently based on climate.

Intermittent or total failure of exterior turn signal lights and the instrument panel turn signal indicator lights on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. Sometimes turning on the hazard lights a few times will restart the turn signals. Replacing the fuse does not fix the problem.

When you go to turn on the turn signals they do not work. They will work one minute and not the next. At times you have to turn on the four way flashers to get the signal to work and at times this does not alway help. I have had several near rear end misses because of this. It's a safety hazard!.

The turn signals fail on vehicle. You will go to change lanes , they will be working then they stop working. I contacted miller Chevrolet who said they were unaware of any problems. I then contacted phalen Chevrolet who stated there have been multiple hazard switch failures causing this problem but no one knew why. This will be the 4th time to take vehicle in for turn signal problems. I have to use my hazards to get my turn signal to work. Now neither one of them work. The first time I took it in they told me there was no way my hazards would make my turn signal work. This car is a piece of expensive junk. Not to mention the brakes have been replaced also.

I purchased this car in late June of 2002. Have had no problems with it ex cept the turn signals (all of them) and the emergency flashers. They will work fine for a few days and then stop working with no warning. Sometimes the turn signals will start operating in a few moments or it could be days. As for the emergency flashers. The one time I had an occasion to use them, they flashed once. After that the turn signals and the emergency flashers did not work for days. Flasher turn signals work intermittently when driving.

Turn signals are occasionally not working. When they do work, all bulbs are functional. My wife first reported this to me the other day that they didn't function when she tried to use the turn signal from a stop sign. When I drove the vehicle, the turn signals appeared to function fine at first, then they failed to work when making a lane change. I then tried the emergency flashers momentarily, then the turn signals were functioning again after that time. There must be some sort of switch problem somewhere. I did not get an owners manual with the vehicle, so my investigation is limited to looking at the fuses in the fuse box.

All turn signals stop working intermittently. To get them to work consumer has to turn on hazard lights 4-5 times to get turn signals to come on. Dealer cannot duplicate problem.

I first checked all the fuses and bulbs to see why the turn signals were not coming on - then I found that the emergency flashers were not working as well - took vehicle in to dealer and miraculously the turn signals came back on - I explained this had happened several times since Sunday and I drive 4 hours each day total to and from work and cannot be on the freeways without turn signals (I drive to downtown los angeles and live in orange county) - the dealer said they could not locate any shorts or problems unless the signals were completely non-functioning. . . This is not safe for highway driving and I do not believe the dealer has a right to tell me to continue driving over 100 miles a day in extremely heavy traffic without turn signals and/or er flashers.
