2 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

My key will not turn in the ignition and I checked for recalls. I called the dealer to fix the recall on the ignition, and was notified that they would only put a piece of plastic over key and would not fix the ignition to turn. I can hardly even start my car because the key won't turn. The key is going to break off in the ignition. The horn and radio do not work either. Not having a horn for incoming traffic towards my vehicle is very dangerous. The turn signals only work at random times and that is very dangerous when switching lanes into traffic. Also, something in the back of the car squeaks for no reason when going down the road at random and when going over speed bumps. This car also drains the battery with unknown electrical problems. The drivers side back passenger window wont go down either. This car has way too many safety issues for only 137,000 miles on it.

3 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

There are three safety problems that have occurred. The first is that the turn signals sometimes work and sometimes don't. The second is that the engine will at time accelerate on it's own while driving and while idle. The third is that the engine sometimes completely shuts off while driving when it rains. A car repair shop has identified problems with the throttle position sensor and the idle air control motor. Searching on the internet reveals that this particular car has problems with the emergency light control that causes turn signal problems. I performed a recall search and the only recall I found was for an ignition switch modification which doesn't seem to relate to my problems.

The manufacturer was notified of the defect but no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 100,000. Jft.

5 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

We bought a 2005 chevy Malibu classic base model from a reputable dealer. Everything was working fine until my son flipped the switch on the turn signal indicator for the lights from "auto" to full lights at night. The dash cluster illumination went out along with the radio back lighting, hvac back lighting, door lock and window switch lighting. The dome light stopped working. The dome light had burned wires and the plastic fixture was burned. Replaced it back to the harness. Fuses kept blowing. Have since tried replacing the turn indicator/lights/wiper module, the dimmer switch, and dash cluster, upon inspecting the body control module I found corroded module connectors that were corroded and burned. Now the car won't start and the suspect is the anti-theft system. This is clearly an electrical malfunction from the assembly line and thousands of dollars in waste by myself my son and others reporting across the internet with the same problems as ourselves.

6 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

At random when driving down the road the radio will switch to aux. You can touch the dash on the side or around the radio and it will go back to radio. It will also switch sometimes when you put the car in drive, or turn on windshield wipers. You have to bump the side of the dash or the area around the radio for it to switch back also there is a noise where the steering is that sounds like something is knocking around under the car, and my dash lights sometimes will wait until I have driven several blocks before they come on. The rattling or knocking noise that is heard in the front on the drivers side really bothers me that something is ready to fall off or break. In October of 2012 I also had to replace turn signal lamps on the driver side rear I wouldn't think they should go out that quick.

8 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

I have a 2005 Malibu classic where the turn signals will stop working then all of a sudden start working again. The fuses are good, no loose wires that I can see, bulbs are good. I have read other complaints from 2000 when a recall was issued for the hazard switch. This is a issue and can result in a potential accident one day if the driver behind or around you does not see which direction you may be turning. The problem comes and goes. Any suggestions, advice, ideas?.

9 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/24/2010

My 2000 chevy Malibu, VIN [xxx] recently began having intermittent turn signal failure. Sometimes the turn signals work, and sometimes they don't. Recall 03v327 did not apply to my VIN, and a special program chevy implemented, described in NHTSA action # rq04005 applied to my car but expired in February 2010. Under this program, gm replaced failed switches for free. They refuse to do this for me now, as the program has expired. The recall doesn't expire, but the program does. As this acknowledged defect is exactly the same as the issue of the recall, why is there an allowed expiration for the remedy??! this makes no sense, and is adverse to public safety! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

10 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/13/2010

Gm is refusing to replace the switch per the recall. Even thought the vehicle is made between the recall dates February 1, 2000 through may 31, 2001 (malibu). Summary: by letter dated August 27, 2003, gm notified the agency that it is conducting a voluntary safety recall (NHTSA recall no. 03v327) involving certain model year (my) 2000-2001 Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile alero, and pontiac grand am. Gm's recall covers 670,740 vehicles manufactured beginning February 1, 2000 through may 1, 2001 (alero and grand am) and February 1, 2000 through may 31, 2001 (malibu). Gm reports that turn signal failure is due to solder joint cracking in the hazard switch, and has identified rapid temperature transitions of the hazard switch and the soldering process as the cause of cracking. Electrical current to the turn signals flows through the hazard switch and an open circuit in the hazard switch will cause the exterior turn/hazard lamps to become intermittent or inoperative. Gm will replace the hazard switch on all involved vehicles. Based on gm's safety recall action.

11 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/08/2010

The turn signals started working intermittent, then quit. This was a recall a couple of years ago, and it was related to the hazard warning switch. My car was taken to the dealership and the switch was replaced. Unfortunately, this is a repeat and was not covered under the recall. The switches are still going bad and not covered. My instrument panel was destroyed internally when my switch was replaced and this damage was discovered during the last replacement in which I replaced the switch on my own since it was not covered.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hazard warning switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: 8/2983536744. The manufacturer also informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 03v327000 (exterior lighting); however, the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

14 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/05/2008

I own a 2002 chevy Malibu and I am experiencing an intermittent clicking noise coming from somewhere in the dash. I took it to the dealership and their diagnosis was "small intermittent voltage bleed from the turn signal switch. Needs the switch replaced. " although I referred the to the defect found by the odi, gm refused to replace the switch at no cost because their internal policy is that they will only replace the hazard switch. When I showed that the report listed the components as the hazard switch and the turn signal switch. They still declined. They stated that although the two exhibit the same symptoms, their policy states they only cover the hazard switch alone. They recommended replacing the turn signal switch at my cost. Then "if the problem persists, which it may, then replace the hazard switch. " which at that point, I would be eligible to replace the hazard switch at no cost.

15 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

This is the 2nd chevy that I've owned whose brake lights fail (center brake light continues to work) to illuminate due to a faulty turn signal switch. Although the turn signal, cruise control, wiper control, etc. Work fine, there is something internal to this turn signal/multi-function switch that suddenly causes the left and right brake lights to not illuminate. The driver is unaware of the problem until another driver on the road brings it to their attention. There are numerous gm car owners who complain of the same problem on the internet, yet gm has not offered to replace this switch for the owner. The dealer wants $170 for the part and charge 2 hours labor at $90/hour for a whopping cost of $350 + tax and only offer a 12-month warranty for their parts/labor. To me, this is a very unsafe condition that gm fails to recognize by recalling or simply repairing free of charge. Apparently, gm says the left/right brake light switch is wired through the multi-function/turn signal switch so the cruise control will cancel once the brake pedal is pressed, but that feature still works even though the brake lights don't illuminate! other car manufacturers' cruise control switches off when the brake is pressed, yet they don't have the issue of the multi-function/turn signal switch failing internally causing the left/right brake light to not illuminate. Please do whatever you can to get gm to replace this poorly designed switch, free of charge to the customer. It should be noted that both this 99 Malibu and 96 monte carlo were both very well cared for by us and still, these brake lights failed with less than 100k miles. Thank you. Respectfully, scott steffes.

22 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/17/2006

I bought a 2004 chevy Malibu in August of 2004. Since that time all 4 signal lights and one headlight assembly have burnt out and needed to be replaced. The left rear signal light is now inoperable. Making this the 5 time I have had problems with the signal lights. I have asked them (Chevrolet service department) to check the entire electrical system every time and every time they tell me that the problem has been resolved. Several times the work invoice copy said, "replaced signal light bulb" there appears to be a more serious issue to this problem and I see that I am not the only one that it has happened to. Although no fire has occurred, I feel that there is definite safety hazard when it unexpectedly stops operating because you are unable to signal other drivers that you are turning.

26 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/24/2005

My 2002 Malibu has a problem. . . When my signal lights don't work I have to turn the hazard lights on & off three or four times and then they work again for a little while. . . I think gm should have to fix the problem, since seems like many people have this problem. . .

27 Turn Signal Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/13/2005

My turn signals work whenever they feel like it. This has been going on for about 8 months now and it seems to be getting worse. Sometimes you can hear the turn signal but the light is not actually on. Also, I have had to replace my rotors on the car three times all ready and the car is not even three years old yet. I am quite upset because between the turn signals and the brakes I am at a high risk for an accident. I have a three year old daughter and everyday I get in the car and drive with her I am putting both of our lives at risks. I can't believe that it is three years and yet there has been no recall on either of these potentially life endangering issues when there has been problems with at least one of these issues on previous models. What is wrong with this picture??.
