The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the cigarette lighter unit in the vehicle burned into pieces. She used the lighter regularly and when the lighter popped backed out to be used, the entire unit overheated and burned. There were no prior warnings or issues with the lighter unit. The contact sustained scarring from the failure. She stated that her vehicle may be at risk of catching fire or experiencing other electrical failures. The VIN was unknown. The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 50 mph the power steering locked which caused him to engage the brakes and drive onto the emergency lane. He stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where he replaced the spark plugs and the spark plug wires. He also tested the electrical system and found that there were no electrical failures; however, the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 114,000. Updated 08/13/10. The consumer stated the battery light illuminated on the dash. The light would illuminate when accelerating up a grade/hill. Also when the light illuminated, there was a chime sound as if the door was being opened. There was a sudden and intermittent loss of power steering without warning. The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu classic. Within the past year, the vehicle has been experiencing electrical failure with the windows. The windows work at random and, occasionally, rise very slowly as if the motor is not working properly. The vehicle is also experiencing issues with the turn signals. Most of the time they do not work at all, but other times the signals work for a brief period of time. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and they were not responsible for the failure. The contact believes the issue is due to a manufacturer defect and should be their responsibility to repair. The dealer would not assist. The VIN was unknown. Cd player inoperative - dealership diagnosed as manufacturer defect- internal radio/cd failure. Dealership service removed radio/cd and sent out for an exchange unit. Dealership service reinstalled radio new cd player and, again, inoperative. Equipment-electrical system failure/inoperable. Dealership still trying to reorder exchange units that would work without success and great inconvenience to owner.

While driving at any speed and without warning, the vehicle lost power steering. This problem happened four times in four months. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who replaced the steering column unit. Also, the abs light came on and the brakes made a screeching noise when depressed. The dealer replaced the abs module and front brake hubs. Although the repairs had been done, the same problems recurred. There were electrical failures with the dash dimmer switch and headlight dimmer, the keyless entry needed to be replaced and grease leaked from the left front wheel. Pe04031_cat.
Used four set of brakes. Sensor had internal electrical failure, j4355 sensor ,crankshaft position replaced. Radio has never worked right despite radio supposely sent off for repair. Two positive battery bolt and cable replacement and on another occasion discovered post broken off in battery.
