The rubber molding around the back light encasing is loose, so water is constantly seeping in causing the back lights to stop working. This is an ongoing problem. I have to constantly change out the bulbs. My brake light in my window is the only one working at this time.

Fuel and temperature gauges/ blower fuse replaced for 1and 2 positions.
Back up light went out. Consumer replaced light, and it won't come on. There was a burning smell coming from brake light. Consumer has no brake or back up lights. Consumer pulled brake light out and it was melted. Please provide any further information.
Rear brake and turn signals have stopped working, water is getting inside rear brake lights and has caused a short.
Back lights/brake lights melted out. Contacted dealer.
The brake lights went out. When checking the problem for repair we found that the lights failed because they had been so hot the plastic melted over the contacts. This has happened to 3 of the 4 lights, but the 4th has signs of being very hot also. The fuse should blow before these lights get this hot. This manufacturing is unacceptable. What if all the brake lights were to go out at the same time??? big problems!.
Both tail light assemblies fill with water, causing lights to short out. Seal around assembly is inadequate.
Purchased vehicle 5/04/01. Had to return 2 days later for melted brake light sockets on left rear. Bulbs were replaced. Melted again within 3 weeks. Went back to dealer, was told they couldn't check it they were too busy. Made appointment to have fixed. They replaced bulbs and reworked socket but it still failed. They said that there is nothing else they can do. I have replaced bulbs on average every 2-3 weeks. I think they have an electrical short causing the bulbs to melt the sockets. Now the turn signal and back-up lights are starting to melt. The interior dome light also works sporadically. Front brakes shudder when applied and have been replaced, rotors were cut. Still having shudder and extended stopping distances.
Cigarette lighter fuse blown.
I bought my 2000 Malibu brand new in September 1999. . . . My engine was pinging and making all kinds of noise, even when warm. . . . Brakes are very hazardous to public safety. . . I have been to the dealer numerious times for rotor and pad replacements and even gm's so called new thicker and improved rotors they installed on my car was just as bad as all the other ones . . . I almost lost control of my car when I was traveling 65 miles per hour on our local highway when I was almost had a wreck due to complete failure of my brakes. . . My car vibrated so badly and did not slow down. . . At all!!. . . . I thought I had 2 front tire blowouts. . . I pulled over on the expressway and my tires were fine it was my brakes. . . . . . I went straight to a local autozone and purchased new rotors and pads. . . . Gm needs to issue a recall ASAP before someone gets seriously injured or killed!. . . . . . I have called gm and made a complaint and was told no recalls were made. . . . . Another issue im having is it takes 3 or 4 times to get my car started . . . Not sure why my car is having all of these problems but it is at a local gm dealership as I type this . . . . . . . I hope they will be able to fix the noise from the engine and my cd player that goes in and out of power and sometimes wont release my cd's . . . . I have given up on gm brakes.
Headlights intermittently don't come on and go off when in use. Problem has to duplicate by itself for dealer to fined a solution.

3 months after I bought Malibu in July, 2000 I was driving at 65 mph when my care lost all power. Dealer told me that there was something wrong with the fuel indicator wiring and was falsely reading the amount of gas I had which resulted in my running out of gas at 65mph. Problem has not repeated itself. At 21,000 miles my signal indicator lights failed and my hazard switch had to be replaced. At 23,000 miles my evaporator vent valve had to be replace (engine light remained on constantly). At 20,000 miles my car was vibrating whenever my brakes were applied. Dealor said front brakes worn out and rotors out of round and they replaced the front brakes and refaced the rotors. At 33,000 miles, care again vitrated whenver brakes applied and dealer told me again that it was not under warranty and was happening because of "hot spots" and that my rotors needed to be cut even though they had just been fixed at 20,000 miles. Was never told that manufacturer was having a problem with Malibu brakes and was told it would cost approxiamtely $700. 00 to fix rotors and it was my responsibility. My sevice for the brakes was done at future Chevrolet in old bridge, NJ.
Lugs: nuts- these are constantly loose,I can turn them bye hand. Some are broken right off. And the Chevrolet h. Q. And dealership(wildd Dodge) along with the chevydealership(ewalds) keep givin me the run around. The paint is simply peeling off the hood of the car,the rotors are grinding and are beginning to peel apart. The back bumper is starting to hang, and the back tail lights are melting and constantly out.
Tail light keep blowing out, and consumer keep replacing the tail lights. Tail light's keep going out and the consumer can smell the wires burning and melting. There was a short within the tail lights.
Brakes lights totally went out twice within 6-8 months apart. Dealer said it was due to bad bulbs and poor wiring.
Severe brake pulsation at highway speeds, difficult to control car. Rotors replaced at 18000 mi, rotors turned at 33000 mi, need to replace again at 46000 mi. Rear stop lights keep burning out due to problems with printed circuit. Replaced light assembly twice, replace bulbs every 5-6 months.
Clunking/grinding sounds coming from front end when turning corners and/or going over bumps (such as r/r tracks, driveway approaches, etc); brakes shuttered and barely responded while driving 35-40 mph down decline in a light rain; rotors were replaced 8/2000 but noise has not lessened. Cold air comes in from door handle of driver sd door, making it necessary to continuously drive w/defrosters on when temperatures are @/below 50 degrees; very poor acceleration, engine sluggish and misses when accelerating; very poor gas mileage avging 21-23 mpg hwy. On 4-cyl engine; rear tail light replaced due to condensation formation when 1st purchased; rear passenger brake light burnt out and need of replacement. ; rear passenger door 3" section of paint corroding and in need of repainting/finishing.
Rear tail lights have a tendency to overheat, short out circuit board inside tail light. Owner has had to replace 5 bulbs from the tail light assembly, along with one light recepticle. Please describe details.
Car shimmied when brakes were applied/stop light quit working went to fix found it all melted on the inside had to repalce whole tail light assembly.
Horn assembly would only respond intermittently when in use. Acts as if electrical system has a short in it. Have not taken to dealership.
The rear brake lights on all the Malibu seem to have a common problem. The rubber seal leaks water causing the bulbs to short out or get corrosion on them causing them to be inoperable. This problem occurs every time it rains or the car gets washed.
Consumer said while driving at highway speed the vehicle died. Driver was two lanes from the shoulder. Police had to stop traffic while vehicle was pushed to the shoulder. Mechanic replaced a # 48 fuse for fuel pump injector.
