When parking my vehicle in park, it will not notice the car is parked and the on light will come on. I have to wiggle the shifter for the on light to go off. The shifter was replaced before, now it's doing the same issues as before. . And the back end is making a very bad bumping noise. The Chevrolet dealership say that they replaced parts and it's doing the same thing. I am not happy with this car at all.

4 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/02/2018

Well after a day of no issues I was driving went to park and I put my car into park the car died and reversed a little bit. It now won't turn over and won't make any noise under the hood. I tried jumping it but that didn't work and I tried to see if maybe the anti lock system shut it off but it's not that either. When I turn the key to the on position it says it's still in reverse and when I move the shifter it doesn't register on the dashboard. So my car still thinks I'm in reverse.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/06/2016

Had multiple concerns regarding slow acceleration and rough jerking when shifting gears which I was told was normal for my vehicle model especially in comparison to my previous vehicle an Honda accord. Purchased car with 34k miles on it at 56k miles I was reversing out of a parking spot and felt a sudden hesitation. Car still drove normal in drive, drove about half a mile on highway and once exiting highway I noticed a weird screeching sound coming from my car. Pulled over to a mcdonalds to inspect vehicle and it was still making noise. Turned vehicle off and went through p,n,d and sound persisted. Drove vehicle a few blocks since I was close to home and sound stopped. Brought car to a repair shop to have inspected per the shop everything was intact and they could not duplicate noise. One day later I stopped on a side street at a stop sign and when I pressed the gas to pull away from stop sign car would not move. Tried again, car revved and moments later car would jerk forward violently. Crawled car to side of street and had towed to dealership where they diagnosed the issue as transmission failure, deeper diagnostic work revealed a belt had broken within the transmission. Have received car back with rebuilt transmission however car still is very sluggish with slow response in 1st and 2nd gear.

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Transmission began lagging between shifts for 3rd & 5th gears. Took it in to the local dealership who noted the issue but told us that there were no codes so they wouldn't do anything. After a couple of months the transmission failed completely which required a replacement transmission which cost us $1500. When we picked the vehicle up after the replacement the steering wheel was crooked while driving straight and there were noises during the drive. Traded the vehicle in for a new vehicle.

12 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I purchased this Malibu in March 2011, new. I currently have less than 26k miles on the car. The car has been at the dealer multiple times for the same issue. While accelerating (usually) between 25 and 35 mph the car seems to lose its ability to shift gears and the tachometer will go to 4000 plus with no acceleration. Its as if the transmission was shifted to neutral and pressing on the gas pedal. This first started happening in the first year of ownership (exact mileage noted above may not be totally accurate) and the car was brought to keyes Chevrolet, where purchased. They said they noticed the defect and apparently did an overhaul (?) on the transmission and kept the car for several days. My guess is they had no problem with doing an initial repair as they would be reimbursed by gm ($1500?). New or similar repairs or issues may be more difficult for reimbursement, as gm will say they fixed it already and paid once!!!!! I try and maintain a log in the car of the transmission issues. Probably have at least 25 times noted and logged in 2013. It should be noted that there were probably numerous times that were not logged because of timing or location or just tired of logging issues on a new car. The car was returned to dealership again for making engine noises when starting up, at least twice. One time I did not do a repair order as they did not hear the noise and looked / listened to the car. The noise has gotten louder and the shifting issue happens more regularly. I try to maintain a record of the date, time and mileage. Will see if they can duplicate the noises and shifting issues, when I bring it in soon, again. The car has recently started chugging along when driving in reverse, a new issue.

13 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I purchased the car in March 2013. It only had 18,000 miles on it. While slowing, such as exiting the interstate, as the car down shifts, it down shifts hard. Especially going from 3rd gear to 2nd and then 1st. It seems to have a slight delay when trying to pick up speed. More so when you have slowed and then sped back up, like when someone is turning and you have to slow for them. There is an awful noise in the dash around the steering column. If you are on a gravel road, it sounds like the dash/steering column is going to fall onto your feet. Its a rattle type sound.
