#1 3rd brake light leaking into back seat and trunk manufacture bolts backed out and/or missing, can also cause water to get into the brake light which tends to cause 3rd brake light failure, increasing risk of a crash. #2 gear shift lever inner lock blocking the ability for user to shut the vehicle off, this can also cause the gear shift lever to indicate vehicle is in park, but the transmission may actually be in another gear. This can lead to damage to the transmission or increase the risk of a crash. A recall has been made for chevy Malibu 2016-2020 but my VIN was not included. While my vehicle is experiencing these issues. Issue was confirmed by an independent service center. Shift to park message pop up on dash when attempting to shut vehicle off unsure of exact start date but started a few months ago. I have since been doing my research on issues and their solutions.

I have a 2009 chevy Malibu . Recall webisite reflects numerous recalls regarding my auto , make and model. While driving on a 6 lane hwy,, I have lost power steering twice. Which is almost impossable to control. Also, the automatic locks have stopped operating even when pressing the door auto lock/ unlock button . You can hear then trying to function however does not. Also, while sitting in park, I crank my car and shift to reverse, my car does not go into reverse. Sometime it will hit very hard and sometime not go into gear at all. I place my car in drive and move forward then to reverse , the car goes into reverse . On other occasions , I turn the car off, re-crank it and its fine. These problems are listed as recalls for the make and model of my auto however, doesn't apoear under my VIN when I search. What can I do I am affraid for my safety while driving my car and also reluctant to drive it. These issues need to be resolved as they appear as recalls. When you loose control while driving and your safety is in jeopardy, its time to expect results.

Having issues with transmission (hard shifting, not going into gear, not going into park). This started within a few thousand miles of owning the car. The power steering also goes out at random times. The car gets significantly harder to steer, or turn. Happens when lane departure is turned off as well. Also the adaptive cruise as constantly failing. Almost like the camera just stops working, and the entire system shuts down, or it says its still engaged and cant see the cars in front slowing down. Sometimes the heads up display alert doesn't even go off when it should. Not sure if this is an electrical issue, or each individual system has problems. Car has been at the dealer about 6 times now with the same issues. They currently have the car, and have had it for about 25 days now. Always the same outcome. . . "we don't know how to fix it". They even had a specialist come in and reprogram the transmission to try to "fix the problem". It hasn't fixed the problem yet. Transmission issues usually happen stationary, going from drive to park, sometimes you will get a loud and very hard shift into gear, sometimes it says its in drive or reverse, you take your foot off the brake, and tap on the gas and nothing happens. It acts as if its still in park. It would also say "shift to park" after you already have and wont let you turn off the car, until it registers you in "park". As for the adaptive cruise, it happens while in motion. Its gotten to the point where I cant even use it anymore. It may work for 3 miles, then completely shut down. Steering issue happens whenever it feels like it. Sometimes while parked, sometimes while driving. Doesn't seem to matter speed wise.
Transmission went out while driving. Would not shift gears then would not go into reverse to clear traffic suspect wave plate failure in the transmission.

Dropped the car off at 12:00 noon on 07/23/15 for safety recalls (13036) and (14152) mickey said the car was ready my son and I picked it up, he drove home, loaded up, and made it to waco, TX. My son called me and said he could not put it in park or get the key out. I borrowed my neighbors trailer drove to waco it was dark so I just loaded up the car strapped it down and drove home mickey had called and said that the technician thought at first he started to say misplaced but then changed it to, left a clip out and to bring the car back but not to worry it would be safe to drive when I opened the hood in the morning to my surprise I found the clip tool that the technician left on top of the trans-axle wedged tightly between the shift cam and transaxle assembly I can tolerate ineptness but I can't tolerate being lied to if the clip was a problem that is the part that affects the recall in the first place, unsafe! if mickey was covering up for the technician's mistake of leaving the tool he used under the hood, at my son's expense that won¿t be tolerated I will take the car to capital Chevrolet Tuesday morning to check for any damage. Also the under panel was not secured correctly and a nut left out. I won't be answering the phone please make all correspondence by e-mail. On 07/28/15 at 9:00 I took the car over to capitol Chevrolet 6200 ih 35 austin, TX 78745 to inspect and check for damage after the tool left in the engine compartment was removed from the transaxle assembly the technician terry hamilton said there was no apparent damage but that the cable should of been connected by a clip not a worm gear clamp due to the chance of over tighten that could damage the cable assembly if the clip was truly forgotten did the gear clamp install itself? I sent an e-mail to chance covert (general manager) informing him of my experience.

While driving the vehicle did not shift in the 45-55mph range, ( I'm guessing 5th gear as I do not know how many gears it has ) then again the same issue at 25 mph. Repeated multiple times through the drive home.
The transmission cable of my car quit working. I was trying to put my car in park when picking my kids up from daycare, and the car would not shift into gear. The car would not shift into park, drive, etc. When I thought I had put the car into par, the car proceeded to roll down the hill. I had to put the emergency break on, and all a tow truck. The dealership found that the transmission cable had to be replaced. Although this is issue is part of a Chevrolet recall, my 2006 Malibu maxx is not part of the recall, and I do not understand why.

I have a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, it is a 2. 4l 4-cylinder and 4-spd automatic. For a few months now my shifter has felt kind of loose when I am shifting from park to neutral or reverse, and the other day I pulled into my fathers drive way with the car and went to put it into park and I shut the car off and took my foot off the brake, the car did not engage park gear and rolled forward into my fathers car. The car would not start in park, only neutral, and I had to use the parking brake to keep the car from rolling. I took the car to the dealership and found out that it was the shift cable, and it cost me $365 to get it fixed. But then the next day I found out that gm had issued a safety recall 09041 on several models including the 2009 Malibu that cover the exact same thing that I experienced. I feel the 2008 Malibu should be included in this recall as well.
