8 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

My fuel gauge goes up and down at random times. The gauge goes down when idling or at a stop. This in turn causes my check engine light to turn on. While the gas gauge will go back to its normal position after a little bit of driving. The check engine light remains on. There are no issues with the gas cap, but after a little research I have found it to be a faulty level sensor. As it's a reoccurring problem with many chevy Malibu's, I don't know how there hasn't been a recall yet. Good thing I don't have to get my car tested until 2017 or I would not pass emissions due to the check engine light being on.

11 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

The fuel gauge is not functioning properly. When I fill the car up completely with gas, the dashboard indicator reads zero and I get a low-fuel warning message. When this problem started, after driving 15-20 minutes, the gauge would then read 'full' again, but the 'check engine' light would come on, and during this time the remote start function would not work. Now the car reads empty at all times, the engine light is on, and the remote start does not work. This led me to run out of gas. I am worried about the car stalling while on the road, as I have read happening to other gm vehicle models, and I am worried about running out of gas again. Fuel system problems seem to be very common with gm vehicles, especially the Malibu, and I would like to see the problem addressed.

12 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

For the past 4-5 months, every time we fill up with gas and then start the car, the fuel gauge jumps up to full, stays there for a few miles, then drops to empty and low fuel message comes on. The check engine lamp also comes on and stays on. After about 20-30 miles, the fuel gauge goes back to full and at the point, the check engine light goes off. This doesn't always happen. 19 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

I financed this vehicle in may 2011 and three months after having this vehicle the fuel gauge stopped working. I have run out of fuel on several occasions trying to bring groceries home or coming from work. Its dangerous because people don't have considerations for others. Lucky for me I have been able to get to the side of the road. However, its not always safe. It is going to cost me a good bit to even think about having this fixed. I still owe a little over 8k on this car and I bought it used. I have been thinking of trading it and having what I owe tacked on to the end of the note just to know that I will be safe as well as my children and not worry about whether I have enough fuel or not. On top of that my husband has been doing my oil changes and says that there is oil all over the bottom of the motor and the oil has a red tint. I would think after everything I have been through to even end up with this vehicle I would not have encountered all these problems. I know some Malibu's have ben recalled on parts and everything so I would love to know how I could find out if there are any that have been recalled on this vehicle. I love this car but need reliability to get to work and home, taking kids to school and helping my parents when they need to go to dr appointments they are both in remission of cancer so I want to make sure everyone is safe.

This time I was lucky enough because my car was in parking lots. (1) it is always at full, but intermittently drops from full to empty, and beeps low fuel message. And then after seconds it bounces back to full. After several rounds, check engine light will turn on. Searched the web - seems like plenty of the same complaints.

Sometimes it registers but only for few seconds before you run out of gas on dark highway in the middle no where land. I have contacted gm regarding the recall notice and I have been advised that no parts are available and they will not provide me with a rental vehicle and expect me to continue to drive the vehicle "until the parts are available".
