Ive noticed that the vehicle will not fill the gas tank up all the way. The gas tank fills 3/4 of the way. If you google chevy Malibu gas tank problem it will pop up. I think it shows how little gm cares about its customers by not addressing the issue. I can maximum get 250 miles after filling my gas tank.

Engine light on continually and never went off; I drove to dealer who said the gas cap area of fuel line was leaking; needs to be replaced they said and tried to order it from gm but they do not have the part; they ordered the part and cannot tell me when it is coming. They could not advise me on the safety of this condition. I know someone who had a similar problem with their model car. Can I drive this or should the dealer give me a loaner? I am still under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. We have always had problems filling the car and it is never completely full. We have brought it to dealer several times about this with no advise. They did recalibrate one time. They said it was an issue with the dash board reporting less gas than is in the tank. Please let me know about this as we continue to drive the car.

Within one minute after engine startup, after filling the gas tank, the fuel gauge drops to zero with attendant alarm. It does not register gas until about 30 miles of driving before gas gauge slowly resets itself. The fuel cap was replaced with a new unit but it still has same results. If the tank is not refilled to top at gas station but only partial refill, then the problem does not happen. In addition, the engine problem light comes on upon full fuel refill after above outlined problem and does not reset until about 70 miles run on auto. I have never seen this problem on autos I have owned or consulting with others with more than 45 years of driving.

When filling gas into tank flow is restricted to the point fuel gushes out onto ground and person. Some internal blockage slows entry. Heard similar from other owners. Occurs on every filling. Fire hazzard!.

Starting around two years ago, fuel gauge after filling tank and then starting car would fall to empty along with low fuel light coming on. When restart car was okay. So, did not fill tank anymore, alleviated problem for a year. In past year got worst, and check engine light would come on until using up until at least 2 gallons was used when gasoline was added. Then engine light went off. As time went on, fuel gauge acting up more, never reading accurately how much gas is in car. In last month, no matter how much or little fuel is added, reads full for a long time, then gauge drops suddenly to empty and low fuel light comes on, and check engine light comes on. Had checked, indicates the fuel sensor is entirely not working now /or fuel pump may not work soon. So every 100 miles, guess how much fuel to add. Not knowing, could run out of gas anytime, and car shut down. Could not live with condition anymore. So, have the combined fuel senor/fuel pump replaced. My opinion, this safety issues should result in general motors issuing a recall for this problem, and reimbursing any owner with same problem; should they had the problem repaired previously.

When filling fuel tank to full, fuel gauge will suddenly show empty, then over next 50 miles or so, the fuel gauge level will swing wildly between empty and full. This results in the check engine light coming on. After about 50 miles, the correct fuel level will register and then 50 miles after that, the check engine light turns off.

Upon filling the car with fuel and turning the key on, the fuel light, check engine came on and the fuel gauge was reading empty. Turning the key off and back on many times did not fix the issue. However, if driven sometimes the gas light, engine light turn off on its own and the fuel gauge reads properly. However, it shows after 5 miles of driving that there is only a half a tank even through the gas tank is full. This does not occur every time I fill up. I have contacted my dealership and they stated there was a recall on fuel pumps pertaining to this problem. However, I have not received any information.
After filling the gas tank completely and driving away from the gas station the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty, my low fuel message came on and the check engine light came on. The fuel gauge will bounce back and forth between empty and full all the time, its one or the other never anything in between. My low fuel light comes on sporadically and the check engine light stays on all the time. When filling the tank completely I have to set my trip set to keep up with mileage.
When filling up the car to full with gas. The gas gauge reads low fuel and on e and then the maintenance light comes on. Sometimes it will bounce back up to show how much gas is remaining only to fall back to low fuel and e again. Had this computer checked and they said it had to do with the fuel sensor located in the gas tank. The estimated cost to fix this would be around 600. I think this should be the responsibility of gm since they recalled their SUV's for the same problem. I can't tell how much gas is actually in the car and I don't know how to use the trip for this. With the low mileage on my car, I think it is outrageous that I should have to put out that kind of money for faulty problems on gm parts.
Fuel gauge started reading empty after filling the gas tank and the check engine light started coming on. After driving far enough to burn off a quarter of a tank of gas the gas gauge would start functioning correctly but the check engine light would stay on. The car was purchased used and when the chevy mechanic put in the VIN# he said it had done that before. This is a very expensive fix. I guess it's time to start buying fords again.
Fuel gauge fluctuates between full and empty, never giving an accurate reading. The fluctuation occurs more rapidly after filling the tank. This has caused me to run out of gas and stall in the middle of oncoming traffic on a very busy highway. In addition, the check engine light is always on. When the light is reset, it immediately comes back on. If there were a major problem that needed to be taken care of to avoid potential engine damage or personal injury, I would never be able to tell from this light.
After filling the gas tank on my 2007 chevy Malibu the gas gauge went to empty and began acting erratically. This has happened 6-7 times over the past month. Typically when this happens the check engine light also comes on but not always, called the dealer, sounds like a fuel sensor which will cost around $800 to fix, also, speedometer is has been jumping around for about 2 years now! had the car in the dealer several times for a vibration noise in the dash that would come and go, dealer kept saying it was from wiper blades they would repair under warranty and it would go away for temporarily, 5 years later still get the vibration especially on a windy day!this car has been nothing but problems! I have always maintained it well, after reading thousands of all the same exact complaints, how can chevy not be responsible for some of these problems? these are not just normal wear and tear complaints these are definitely faulty parts used by chevy!.
