The locks on this year make and model have a long history of door lock failure, sometimes they go up while driving, sometimes they wont go up or down at all with remote or car on/off, and this happens the worst and mostly in heat and hot weather. There are complaints all over the internet for years. Gm refuses to take responsibility. This is a serious safety issue, especially for children in the back. Please do something, im not the only one at all that ever said anything about this.

10 Power Door Locks Not Working problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

Recently, I experienced a failed door locking actuator in my 2009 chevy Malibu while driving my 2yr old to daycare. I was turning right out of my neighborhood, when my door(driver’s door) swung open. I grabbed it and tried shutting, but the locking mechanism was locked, so it wouldn’t shut. I pulled over and had to manually unlock the door so my door would shut. I couldn’t even imagine if this situation occurred to a door in the backseat with my daughter sitting there in her child seat. Fast forward one week, and now 3 of my 4 locking actuators are failed. I did some research on the internet and noticed that there are numerous complaints from Malibu owners about these failed locking actuators. I then started to wonder if there was a recall on this. I called gm and they said there isn’t a recall and that is just normal part failure. Normal part failure?!?! I’ve had the car for less than 4 years and have only put 45k miles on it. In my opinion, this is a major safety issue.

11 Power Door Locks Not Working problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Door locks are failing to lock and unlock, with the key fob or, with the inside switch, from the drivers side or from either one of the three other doors. This is a major safety issue as, if someone is about to get robbed, raped, beat up or a car jacking is about to occur and, the door locks fails to lock or unlock then, someone could get raped, injured or even killed. Please pay attention to this message and take action against general motors to get this issue resolved. I think, along with every other 08 or 09 Malibu owners, that general motors is using this for a "cash cow" as they too are unwilling to budge and do the right thing by making and installing an upgraded locking system that will last for more than five years. Thank you very much martin draper.

12 Power Door Locks Not Working problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

My rear driver door lock will not activate. Only manually. Very dangerous. It seems to be a very common thing with these cars. They have bad actuators. This should be a recall by general motors. . .

13 Power Door Locks Not Working problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Key fob does not unlock or lock the front and back doors on the drivers side. If someone is in the back seat the driver can not get them out as the door lock will not open with the fob. When the car is put in drive the drivers door does not lock, so it is assummed that you are safely locked in the car, but the door needs to be locked manually after in the car is put in drive. When locked manually when in car, when the car is turned off the door will not open automatically and has to be manually opened by pulling the lock on door up on the driver door and the back passenger door. When trying to use the remote to lock the doors, the front and back doors do not lock unless done manually. When the fob is used to unlock the doors as I try to get into the car the fob does not work and I have to manually with the key unlock the door. When trying to remote start the car the remote start does not work, as the driver side door and back door will not lock, so remote start does not work. I had an incident with the back door when I needed to get an individual out of the back seat quickly and it was not possible. I had to run to the other side of the car and get the individual out by pulling them to the other side of the car. When I am approaching my car in an area that I feel unsafe in, such as a garage, I am not able to open my car door with the fob and have to again use the key. Again then when I get in the car I am unsafe as the door does not lock, front or back if not locked manually. I feel very strongly that this is a safety issue, especially not being able to get someone out of the back seat or me out of the front should I encounter an emergency situation, or if I am in an accident, or if for any reason I have a fire in the car.

14 Power Door Locks Not Working problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Steering wheel shook violently when the car was at rest and then began to shake while driving down the highway at approximately 49k miles. Took it to dealer and had the steering column replaced. Then the power door locks began to fail; both passenger door locks and the driver's lock must be operated manually now (well, the driver's door lock works 1/2 of the time. . . Never know if it is actually engaged unless you do it manually). No outside keyhole exists for the passenger door side to be unlocked, which is very inconvenient and potentially unsafe, especially when you are driving alone and cannot get the doors locked by pushing the button. Have driven gm vehicles my entire life, but this is the last time the company will ever get my money. Sad. . . .

15 Power Door Locks Not Working problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Back door locks will not lock unless pushed down manually. Both back doors will not lock with power locks or with key fob. I have read on many forums that it is the actuator not working. The car can actually be broken into because the doors are actually unlocked.
