Side/window Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Malibu - part 2

Our 2006 Malibu ss was involved in a accident on hwy. . Traveling 60 mph driver overcorrection and the car went off the road, up an embankment rolled 5 times. Ejected one of the occupants but never did the side air curtain airbags deploy.

I recently leased a 2007 Malibu. The passenger side airbag does not work when a cushion is placed on it to give my wife the height so she can see. Apparently the sensors are set to a heavy weight, so if there are small people such as children in the front passenger seat the airbag safety system will not activate if they sit on a cushion. I spoke to gm customer service people in detroit, and they said they had never heard of this. It seems to me that in designing a safety system, consideration should be given to smaller and lighter people, or have a fix available so the system works.

Today my husband had an accident. Someone ran a red light and hit him so hard on the passenger side that our car ended up on the next block. Our car has curtain air bags and they failed to deploy. At present time I notified our insurance, who was surprised that the air bags did not deploy and I have requested that it be looked into. At this point we want to know if the air bags are even in the vehicle. I also called the dealer who sold us the car and I am still waiting for a response to the following question, how hard does a vehicle have to be hit for the side air bags to deploy? my husband sustained injuries on his knees and bruises on the chest. I am very concerned that these air bags did not deploy because had I or anyone else been in the car they would have had serious injury. Note our car does not have an on and off switch for the airbags.

Dt : the air bags on driver's and passenger's sides deployed during a rear end collision under 10 mph. The drivers seat belt did not lock. This happened on August 24, 2005. The case # was 055947.

Auto was rented from avis at the airport in orlando. While proceeding north on route 436 from the airport and slowing for a traffic light at hanging moss dr. , the passenger side air bag prematurely deployed after the driver heard a brief sound like a "hsst". The deployment startled my wife, the driver and was immediately followed by the deployment of the driver side airbag, obscuring her vision. Before she could brake to a stop she impacted an old pickup truck in front of her who was also slowing for the traffic light. Damage was sustained by the Malibu but no significant damage was sustained by the pickup truck. My wife called for the police after both the pickup and she moved the vehicles to the side of the road to avoid impeding traffic. The driver of the pickup proceeded to leave the scene while my wife waited for over 2 hours for the police to arrive. A report was filed with the police and with avis about the premature deployment of the airbags but with no "other vehicle present" the police could do nothing but file a report on the incident. My wife was not cited. Avis ignored the premature deployment issue and charged our insurance company the $2,600. For repairs as if a collision caused the problem. My wife sustained a minor burn mark on her arm from the driver's side air bag.

Had coolant/oil leaking from valve cover/ intake manifold. Dealer replaced all 5 gaskets, oil and coolant. Only have 31,000 miles on the car. Also had resistor for fan control changed. Blower would not operate in position 1 or 2. One month ago in January, had transmission cooling leak. Dealer said it was "transmission internal wiring harness connector" leaking when I told them it was cooling line. Invoice shows changed harness, which I couldnt tell it was new because it was dirty, and changed gasket in cooling line. At same time had a/c blower control unit replaced. Ive had probelms with this vehicle since I bought it. Tires were "cupped" after first rotation. Dearler replaced 2 front tires under warranty. Now I have a problem with tires/wheels after each rotation when rear wheels are put up front. Said problem might be alignment, which is not covered under warranty. Also have had horn repaired due to inop. Dealer found wiring harness wasn't connected. Had control switch changed on power drivers seat. Drivers seat moves back/forth slightly when braking/accelerating. Passenger-side airbag was replaced due to "squeaking" when hitting bumps in the road. Had battery replaced due to acid leak eating off positive terminal. Had to leave car overnight at work brakes are due replacement due to "brake fade". Car is total disapointment. Would trade it in, but I owe more than vehicle is worth.

While driving at 15 mph and for no reason driver's side and the passenger's side air bags deployed.

Both driver's side and passenger side airbags deployed after pulling out of a parking space. Driver did not hit anything.

While driving at 10 mph or less consumer was involved in a minor head-on crash in which both driver's side and passenger's side air bags did not deploy. Also,there was no damage to the front end of vehicle. Please provide any further details.

Driver's side airbag deployed while vehicle was being driven without warning. Also, all dashboard lights were acting erratically. Dealer can't find the problem. .
