2008 chevy Malibu passenger side headlight repeatedly has burnt out socket, melting inside. Wiring harness and bulb have been changed out three times and issue reoccurs within days. Bulb has not been touched. Wiring seems in tact. No one seems to be able to resolve this issue, even though this seems to be an extremely common issue on forums. We'd like to be able to use this vehicle and safely. Thank you.

Low beam headlight going out. I purchased this vehicle in 2014 and my low beam headlights have gone out a total of 6 times. Changed the pigtails last time and iam now having to change the wiring harness completely and hopefully that will help. My cars lights are always on auto and always begins with my passanger low beam light going out first then the driver side a couple months after, has happened when turning on the vehicle and during driving. My high beams work fine with no problems at all. The first two times I have had a proffesional mechanic change them and the last couple times I've changed them myself now due to cost. Removing the whole bumper really makes this even more difficult to change. I have read many forums and they have also the same problem, its actually become very common to see many chevy's with a head light out. I just want to make sure this is noted cause it appears to be a common problem with this vehicle company. Please help!.

I have replaced my low beams 3 times this year. The first time I reaplaced all the bulbs. The second time I reaplaced both wiring harness and bulbs. A month ago I replaced the passenger bulb and now the drivers side low beam is out again. It has cost me anywhere from $100-$200 each time to do this! I also have a problem with my dash telling me service esc, esc off, and service traction. A recall in 2014 addresses this issue and my VIN says the recall has been serviced but I am still having this issue. It happens with the car in park and while driving. Sometimes it stays on for hours sometimes minutes.
Passenger side low beam keep going out. Replaced bulb multiple times, still doesnt work. Replaced wiring harness within first week of purchasing vehicle and having repeated problems.

Constantly having issues with the electical system in this vehicle, and from further studies and investication via internet complaints and youtube customers/owners. . . This is a continual ongoing problem for a substaintial amount of chevy Malibu owners from the year of 2009 to 2013/2014 models. There should be a recall ASAP on these make and models. The issue is that the headlights constanly short out and blow out. Mechanics and service has found that the electtical connectors for hllightbulb overheats, melts the wiring, and burns out bulb> this is very dangerouse and is a fire hazard. This has happened at least three times on my vehicle alone. Also constat problems with rear right wheel convertor speed and tire sensors, and the entire electrical system over all. The wiring in this make and model vehicle constantly have blow out fuses, the emergency light indicators always coming on, and the sensors on and off. This is a well noted and documented occurans with these vehicles. These cars need to be recalled due to danger with possible fire and car stalling out while driving due to electrical issues and heating/cooling ac wires shorting out. In all overview this has caused me severe finacil problems due to constant repairs and part replacement. It is a danger to myself and others on the highways and roads. I need this to be addressed immediately. I have some of the melted fire sparked parts. Please contact me as soon as possible. Many days I dont have needed transportation due to these issues and I get repairs all of the time while still paying a car note. I am scared to keep driving thius car.
Passenger side headlight issue . Headlight lowbeam specifically on passenger side keep going out . After research and testing to find out it's not the actual bulb that's the issue. It's that headlight wiring on several different Malibu's . Changed bulb 3 times in 6 month window .
My passenger headlight wiring harness has a short in the wiring or from the headlight bulb to the short wiring harness to the main wiring harness. I sent general motors a message. They want me to pay for it. It is a factory fault. I only get social security for my funds.
My right side low beam keeps going out. I have replaced the bulb 5 times this year. I've replaced the wiring harnesses for the light bulb. I really don't understand why this keeps falling.
2018 chevy Malibu. First started with corroded wires under the car which has lead to the usb port melting my cellphone charger which was fixed but after that the ac/heater only would blow out the defroster that got fixed. Car had about 20,000 miles. My car had a recall for the ecm module needed updated but auto nation said it didn't need to be updated after getting my car back it wouldn't start I would have to lock it unlock it open the door a few times and then it would start, so my battery got fried because something was draining it paid 200$ for a new one because auto nation said they didn't touch the car because it didn't need an update but what gets me is they had to plug into it to find out it didn't need an update, then the car started saying (shifter to park) got gm corporate involved and they made an appointment 1/13/2020 at chapman for me to take my car in to figure out that I needed a new wiring harness from the shifter to the transmission and they updated the ecm module but yet auto nation said it didn't need the update, so basically the auto nation doesn't want to take responsibility for the car messing up. I sat at auto nation for 45 minutes and they didn't touch my car. Something isn't right and no one wants to take responsibility. Yesterday I picked my car up from chapman 1/27/2020, they replaced the wiring harness from the shifter to the transmission, today 1/28/2020 I'm getting the same message shift to park. I'm getting tired of the run around with brittany and having 3-4 other people call that doesn't know the situation and don't know what to do with this situation. So now the miles are at 59,000 miles no warranty. This isn't a reliable car. Gm said is our fault why this happen that is what taylor the advisor told us today 2/3/2020. Still having the same issue with the park to shift as of 11/24/2020.

Body control module causing braking lights, turn signals not to function while in motion and stationary. Three times I've had the bulbs repaired and wiring harness checked. Given that te front end needs to be pulled just to change the bulbs, this has led to some high repair bills. My understanding is that 2004-2014 Malibu have been recalled for this problem. Chevy recall #13036 NHTSA campaign #14v252000. For whatever reason my vehicle is not included in the recall. It should be, and before my daughter is involved in an accident due to this.
The passenger side low beam bulb keeps going out. I've had this bulb replaced multiple times and had the wiring harness replaced because the bulb kept going out. After having the wiring harness replaced the bulb went out again.

The vehicle was in motion, city street, turning. The steering wheel wpuld turn the opposite way that I had to turn. The steering wheel would also lock in the opposite direction which almost caused me to crash into the wall. When I pulled off to the side tge steering wheel would shake and turn by itself. I just discovered that there is 9 recall notices from 06/27/2014 to 02/23/2015. The dealership has not owned up to these recalls. Due to multiple of these recalls my two children (ages 2 and 1), my husband, and my life (pregnant) could have been lost due to an almost vehicle collision due to these recalls. 06/27/2014 recall for train:automatic transmission. 06/27/2014 recall for power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:floor shift. 08/18/2014 recall for service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light. 08/18/2014 recall electrical system:wiring. 08/18/2014 recall exterior lighting:brake lights. 08/18/2014 recall vehicle speed control:cruise control. 08/18/2014 recall electronic stability control. 09/08/2014 recal for steering. 02/23/2015 recal for steering:electric power assist system.

Takata recall dealers are to attach the wiring harness to the bcm with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the bcm and harness connector and on the bas and harness connector, and relearn the brake pedal home position free of charge. And also dealers will replace the outboard lap anchor mounting bracket to re-locate the tensioner 30mm rearward. Dealers will also inspect the cable, and if necessary, replace the lap pretensioner. These repairs will be completed free of charge.
The contact's father owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. While the contact's father was driving, he was pulled over by the police because the center third brake light failed to work. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hedrick's Chevrolet (961 w shaw Ave, clovis, CA 93612, (559) 512-6549) where it was diagnosed that the brake lamp malfunctioned and the wiring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact was advised to call NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Randomly doesn't what to start been to shop several times mechanic goes to fuse box and mess with wiring and starts up I go through this problem several times for months now. Tired not having a car to get to work mechanic can't figure out why it dong this need recall on it several complaints I read about already same as me. Also one time act like was going to stop downtown in traffic pull off side road call ed mechanic.
The wiring on my vehicle has always been messed up causing my check light engine to stay on at all times. I've had multiple machinists look over my vehicle and have spent lots of money trying to get this issue fixed.
The low beam and running lights on driver's side keep going out the wiring harness and bulb has been changed 5 times now and still goes out ever other week . And to top it off this car has the most rediculous way to get at the headlights. So time consuming.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. While operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the rear brake light would not illuminate; however, the brake light would remain illuminated when the brake pedal was not being depressed. The vehicle was taken to apple Chevrolet (1200 loucks rd, york, PA) where it was diagnosed that the electrical brake light wiring was faulty and corrosion was present. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously repaired in October 2014 per NHTSA campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, exterior lighting), but the failure recently recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 72,000.
Right passenger side headlight wiring has a shortage. It continues to go out even after wire harness changed. I first noticed this when I was travelling to chicago from texas and just got it changed prior to the trip. It worked for a day then just had gone out.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle was not operable. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic were it was diagnosed that the wiring harness and fuel pump were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle was still not operable. The vehicle was re-inspected by the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuse box and relays were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Gusweiler gm center (1132 state rte 41, washington court house, OH) where it was confirmed that the fuse box was faulty. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Blower motor pulled so much amperage from engine/battery that it melted the wiring harness and blew the blower motor resistor. Was driving the vehicle, and had the air conditioning on. When accelerating, the blower cut off and I could only feel the air slightly coming from the ac vent. Had it diagnosed at my mechanic and he indicated that he'd seen this many times in chevys and that there had to be some defect in the blower motor for it to pull so much amperage -- enough to melt the wiring harness, which subsequently blew the resistor.
Headlamp wiring assembly required replacing after pig tail melted creating a potential fire hazard. This occurred twice 12/17/2015 and 12/20/2017. Melting occurred each time. This is a fire waiting to happen. Invoices for each event are attached.
While the vehicle is at idle (stop light), the engine surges and sputters and the service traction control / ecs lights appear on the dashboard and the check engine light illuminates. The car will then accelerate very slowly only up to about 20 mph. I had the car fixed at a gm dealer about a year ago for a vehicle recall on the main body wiring connector to bcm. Note: the gm fix is to "clean" the connector and add dielectric grease to prevent corrosion. The car was fine after that until now. I've seen many of the same complaints on the internet regarding this issue and I believe the "fix" is only temporary.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. While attempting to use the low beam headlights, the contact noticed that the lights were not illuminated. The contact stated that the bulbs needed to be replaced more than usual. The contact also mentioned that the turn signal indicators were blinking erratically. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where the contact was informed that the bulbs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. Also, while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the wiring harness was melted and emitted a burning odor. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that there was an electrical short with the wiring associated with the headlights. The low beams, high beams, running lights, and turn signals failed to function. The vehicle was inspected, diagnosed, and repaired by a mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Several systems have been affected. The systems affected are the radio controls on the steering wheel, the power steering, the traction control and the rear defrost. There seems to be a short that goes from system to system. Modern Chevrolet in winston salem, nc said it was a short in wires on the steering column that was causing this. There are three recalls that would deal with this. The recalls are for steering, traction control and finally wiring. Both modern Chevrolet and Chevrolet corporate have said my vehicle is not covered due to the VIN #. I do not see where that matters. If a part is bad then all vehicles that part is used on should be covered no matter what. The steering was the most affected. The power steering would go out and it was very difficult to steer the car. This happened on several different occasions.
I am an auto mechanic and the owner of a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The problem with my vehicle, 4 of my customers Malibus (2009 to 2012) and many many other Malibu owners is that while driving one or both headlights will cut off leaving the operator with little or no visibility while still in motion, this is what happened to me one night on a rural highway with no street lights. After much troubleshooting I have discovered the culprit to be that the headlight sockets overheat and melt causing a loose or open connection from the wiring harness to the headlight. Since then I have replaced many sockets (including my own) and they have been 100% successful. In summation I believe driver and occupant safety is significantly reduced due to the poor manufacturing and the subpar integrity of the headlight sockets. Thank you for your time and consideration.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving approximately 23 mph in the rain, the vehicle spun out of control and crashed into a cement barrier. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. Two days later, the interior of the vehicle caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. The fire department informed the contact that the fire was due to the electrical wiring in the dashboard. The vehicle was not towed or taken to the dealer. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000.
Please consider the complaints of same issue on the link bellow. The Malibu has an manufacture defect of head light, thy constant burn and go off, sometimes it burns the bulb and sometimes the socket. I replaced the bulbs and socket over 6 times in 8 months. There is over thousands complaints of exactly same issue online on car complaint sites as people are not aware where to report and chevy ignore us as they are aware of the thousands complains. The headlight going off is a hazards and I already got pulled over 4 months after replaced the head light when it went off without I realize it. It is an electrical issue with a bad defect . To replace it one needs to take the car apart and entire bumber off it is outrageous expense to replace a $8 dollar bulb, please consider the complaints on this 2 web sites as to make chevy recall it and fix on Malibus of 2009 to 2013. . While on a trip the passenger air bag warning light came on while driving on highways while on vacation. This happened in may 2016 and also may 2015 while on vacation. I checked on line and it states the air bag is disabled when the learning light comes on. On line it stated back in 2004-up through 2012 they had several complaints on this, they found a problem with the wiring harness and had to do upgrade called a soft recall. I called on star and asked about recalls regarding the warning light for air bag, they said no recall on that. I requested a case be opened on 6-2-2016 and have not heard anything. Why would this warning light come on for a week every may? we do several miles of traveling mostly less than 300 one way trips yet it has only come on in may. I called my local dealership and they said no recall on that warning light either. Previously I had a 2009 Malibu which I purchased mainly because of the safety of all the airbags. If I or may passenger is in danger at any time with the airbag disabled it's not safe, period.
Good morning the complaints are going for over 3 years, and chevy is ignoring us all . I also complain direct to them and they play dumb ref chevy Malibu 2011 why isnt chevy having a re call on the head lights issue of the Malibu?? it is a safety hazard. Over 80% of Malibu owners are complaining and registering complaints on the constant burning of the headlights and headlight socket of a Malibu I replaced mine 4 times over 8 months, the cost is outrageous and the time out of our work and lives is even more aggravate. Chevy is aware of it and is choosing to do nothing and let us pick up the cost of a "defective" item in the car. I appreciate if chevy could refund it and fix it at no cost right now, as I already got pulled over by cops due to it stop working 1 month after I had replaced. Thank you people do not know the proper site of dot to complain so they do here in this sites. . Read more...
