4 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Heater blower motor fire's on 2005 chevy Monte Carlo LS, replaced twice !!! fire both times. The first time was probably around 18,000 miles or so. Then the second time was around 27,000 miles or so. (I would have to find my reciepts to verify exactly). But, both times the car's blower motor was on fire !!! alot of smoke, thick electrical burning smell. A man came over to help me (as I am handicapped by polio, and could not get out of my car myself), after it had been burning for about 1/2 hour , the man poured water into the firewall area that was burning, it still took about another half hour to try to stop the fire. But only the fan motor and close vacinity burned. But it could have been worse if that man had not come along and poured bottle water on it repeatedly for many, many tries before extinguishing the fire. My car was repaired at "dick genthe Chevrolet, southgate, michigan where I purchased the Monte Carlo new. ". Right now (6-20-11) I have only 28,000 miles on this 2005 Monte Carlo. I have also, just had to replace the wiper motor. , a few weeks ago. !!! these should be recalled and gm should have to make these repairs or refund the money that people like me have already shelled out for these very costly repairs !!! now. . . I also have problems with my speedometer not working right. And gas gauge, "the entire cluster is bad, at an approximate cost of around $600. 00 (six hundred dollars). This also should be recalled for safety. My speedometer might show 90 mph when I know I am going maybe 40. Or it might show 20, when I'm on the highway doing about 70 !!! sometimes the speedometer goes all the way around - past 120mph . Yesterday, when I stopped my car in the driveway, it showed I was still going 60 mph while sitting still in my driveway. Help please, make gm recall and re-imburse people for these repairs !!!.

7 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 09/20/2009

Bad stepper motors in my tachometer, voltmeter and now my engine temperature meter have died or are faulty, producing erroneous readings. The failures seem to be randomly occurring as the motors slowly die out, giving false readings in each gauge until they are permanently stuck in a position. This has occurred to each meter over the last several months, with meters giving incorrect values, sometimes resetting and functioning properly once the engine is turned off and back on, but then becoming incorrect once again. Consequences of this could lead to further damage to the car in case an actual problem occurs in areas of the car where monitoring the situation would eb critical, such as in my case when my engine coolant was running very low but I could not tell due to the gauge being broken. Serious damage to my car and potentially myself could have occurred. The only available option is to purchase a new dash cluster for several hundred dollars, while the problematic motors cost $5 each to replace but altering the dash is not legal.

8 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

I began having trouble with this car a few months after I purchased it. I can't drive the car at night with the lights on bright, because when I do the lights shut completely off and the only way to get them to come back on is to flip the dimmer switch. I have been on the interstate and highway both, driving the posted speed limit when this has happened. This problem, in my opinion is a big hazard and very unsafe. I had to have the cruise control switch replaced, the instrument panel replaced, because it failed completely while I was going on vacation, I had no idea how much gas was in my car or what speed I was going all gauges were out of whack. The car smells like gasoline, I've taken this to the dealer auto repair shop, they claim they can't find the problem, even though they could smell the gas both on the outside and inside of car. There was a recall on the key, I took into dealer and they put a cover over the old key, I personally don't understand how that was supposed to take care of whatever the problem was. I have noticed that others on here have listed similar complaints about this car. What I'd like to know is, if there are so many people having the exact same problems with these cars, why hasn't there been a recall issued? I can't speak for anyone else, but I paid hard earned money for this car and I'm sick and tired of having to constantly repair stuff, which seems to be a big problem on this make and model. I think something needs to be done before someone gets seriously injured or worse. And it shouldn't take someone's life before something is done about this.

9 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Instrument cluster failure, loss of speedometer and other gauges.

10 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Instrument cluster failure.

11 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

All gauges have failed. 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

12 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 09/10/2008

Instrument cluster panel gauges gone bad for my vehicle. The speedometer needle starts at a random point on the gauge and always reads incorrect. When traveling on highways, the needle may turn 180 - 360 degrees around the gauge, making it impossible to determine speed, makes using the cruise control option dangerous, and a higher risk of getting stopped for a speeding ticket. The tachometer gauge works 50% of the time but the other times the needle is in the "red zone" giving the driver a false sense of the transmission shifting. The temp gauge works 90%, but in cold weather it can stay about the halfway line also show a wrong reading of the engine overheating.

13 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

My gauges are going dead in my 2001 chevy Monte Carlo. I have been to several dealerships and they say "they fix it" but 2 days later. . . Same problem. All of the gauges in the dash go dead. All of the warning lights flash.

14 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

I have been experiencing problems with the gauges in my instrument panel not functioning correctly and getting stuck and not resetting themselves when the vehicle is turned off. Currently 4 out of the 6 gauges within the cluster have failed. Upon researching this issue there has been a realization of how common this problem is. There has been a recall on gm models for this issue involving the same parts, but nothing for the Monte Carlo. I have contacted gm about this issue on 11/11/10 and have not yet received a response.

15 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/12/2007

All dash gauges have failed (one at a time) including speedometer (which was the last gauge to fail on 7-21-08). Trunk release (electronic) failed. Have been told the only way to get dash cluster repaired is through a dealer. Dealer refuses to sell necessary part to a certified mechanic.

16 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

Every gauge on my instrument panel of a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo are inoperable. This has been ongoing for years, with each gauge failing. Dealers, of course, are completely aware that the problem is rampant in Monte Carlos over a 5-6 year production period and are charging approximately $600 or more to repair. After reading many posts on internet sites and talking to owners and dealers, this is a problem that should result in a recall. Don't have $600 or more to repair so I have resorted to using a gift card and purchasing a gps for $50 so I can at least see my speed as I'm driving.
