I have a 2002 3. 8 Monte Carlo ss. I am currently having problems with my ignition. When I try to start my car all the instruments turn on but the engine does not start. I attempted several times to restart the vehicle, but I still have the same problem. Then I put the car in drive and returned it to park position several times. After about a few minutes the car started. I have been having this problem for awhile.

Certain lights in dashboard controls are burnt out. Right now the problem just involves the tachometer, ignition illumination and driver heat/cool control indicator. Problem is manageable during the daytime but at night, necessary parts of the dashboard do not illuminate. The problem is that the lightbulbs themselves cannot be replaced. The whole control board for that particular part of the dash ($300. 00) must be replaced which is ridiculous on a four year old car.

The speedometer displays the wrong speed. It started with just higher speed and now will display 20-30 mph when traveling on expressway when going 65. Sometimes the instrument cluster can be reset by turning off and on the ignition to reset. Now even that is not working. I took to dealer today and they want to replace the instrument cluster for over $537 ++. The chevy dealer I bought the car from is no longer in business. This started around 60k miles.
Car begin to have difficulty going into park and allowing the ignition key to be removed. Within 1 month car now will not go into park at all without manually going under the hood and moving the shift cable. Since the car remains very hot underneath the hood for a while this is very dangerous, especially for a woman, but necessary to remove your keys from the ignition and to put your keys into park.
Stop & go driving. Abs warning light comes on, traction control turns off, service traction control warning light comes on, brake pedal vibrates. All lights stay on while driving but reset after ignition turn off/ turn on procedure as described in owners manual. Next day, same lights & warnings. Take vehicle to dealer on 4/05/06. "computer checked system codes p1189, p0135, c1216 in system. Items tested per trouble tree. All items test good. " no charge. Next day, 4/6/06, same warnings! take to dealer again without resetting warnings. No computer system codes showing, but no input signal from right front hub. Dealer replaces right front hub assembly - cost $479. Vehicle seems fine, until about 4/20 when brake pedal vibration comes back and warning lights come on and off. I turned off the traction control system and everything was fine for several days. On 4/25, with the traction system off, the pedal vibration was back and the abs & traction control warning lights came on again. Went back to dealer. Although they told me the computer check show codes of c1222 and c1226, the codes do not show on my invoice. Code c1226 appears on NHTSA technical service bulletin item number 10017271 for my year and make of vehicle. However the service bulletin number 3500 is not know to the dealer as a valid TSB number, and they could not locate any information about it. Dealer "diagnosed and replaced ebtcm, and programmed system" - cost $697. I feel that by replacing the "brain" (ebtcm) and programming it, the dealer and/or the manufacturer may be covering up a potential safety issue with either one or both systems, abs and traction control. I also feel that the dealer put me and my family in a dangerous position by failing to diagnosis any problems on the first visit, and then doing it again by making me feel safe by paying for a replacement part that has nothing to do with either system!.
Reocurring electrical problems. The car has not been driven even 100 miles the last year and a half because it wont pass inspection. The emission system has gone out. Since we've had the car we've had to replace the ignition system and the windows kept going off track. As of now the passenger side window will not go up. I cant afford to get it fixed since I was diagnosed with "congestive heart failure" and I'm on permanent disability through social security.
