Chevrolet S10 owners have reported 18 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Occasionally about 5 or 6 times and counting when initially applying the break at either 45mph or 10 mph my 1997 chevy S10 vehicle starts to accelerate with my foot off the gas and cruise control off at what appeared to be full speed/throttle. My first reaction was to break even harder, but then the antilock brakes kicked in and seemed to reduce the stopping force by not letting the wheels lock. The vehicle continued to accelerate until I placed the car in neutral and then the vehicle stopped and also stopped accelerating.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the engine stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the electric fuel pump was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

I was driving on freeway at 60mph and set the cruise control on, but the truck continued to accelerate, even after stepping on brake pedal, I was able to control the speed by holding the brake pedal, downuntil I got to my destination, turned the truck off/on and checked to see the acceleration had stopped, the truck stayed on high idle. It seems the gas pedal is stuck.

Cruise control cannot be shut off via brake, only via master on/off switch. Yesterday, even the master switch would not cut off the cruise control and it stuck in the accelerate position causing a run away vehicle situation. I had to smoke the brakes to stop an kill engine. Vehicle has been towed to local chevy dealership. This hapened first when the truck was only 2 weeks old and then again yesterday twice. Yesterday was the first time for the master switch to fail also. Very dangerous!!! f.
The cruise control was not shutting off with application of the brake pedal only the master on/off switch, however the on/off switch failed to shut off the cruise control resulting in sudden acceleration.
Vehicle exiting expressway. Shut off cruise control from 70 mph with brake shut off. . Vehicle did not slow but accellerated. Tried turn signal shutoff. Could not stop vehicle on ramp until engine shut off. Vehicle accellerator stuck wide open. Rear tires spinning when at stop and brake applied. Continued through 4-5 startups and shutdowns and 10-15 minutes. Coincidental: low fuel light on at time. Engine idled at top rpm until rev limiter slowed engine rpm at red line. Dealer listed on complaint states there is no problem found. Invoice ctcs47068 on 12/07/1999. Has not repeated to current date.
Consumer tapped brakes to shut off cruise control but it didn't release. The cruise control switch was cut off, and the vehicle started accelerating. Consumer contacted the dealer.

Intermittently the idle speed comes up, causing the truck to accelerate or maintain the same speed. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.
Driver tapped the brakes to disengage the cruise control, then tapped tap to re-engage cruise control, vehicle accelerated to over 75 mph. Driver had to shift to neutral and turn engine off to slow vehicle. Pedal was found stuck to the floor.
Driver tapped brake to disengage cruise control, when cruise control was re-engaged, the vehicle accelerated to over 75 mph. Had to shift to neutral and turn engine. Acceleration pedal was stuck to the floor.
Going about 60mph w/ cruise control on; while going down a hill, was applying the brakes, the cruise control failed to release. Vehicle rearended another vehicle & air bags deployed. Vehicle was totaled. Have a copy of police report.
Cruise control failed to disengage, vehicle continued to accelerate out of control. Was able to stop vehicle by putting it into neutral and turning off key.
Driver experiences problem with erratic idle speed.
When driving at any speed, vehicle goes into high idle, rmps reach up to higher than 2200, turn engine off stop the high idle.
Idle sticks at various rpm.
The engine fails to return to idle when throttle is released. Occurs when humidity is high and temperature is at least moderate. More prone to occur while air conditioning is in use. Engine rpm has hung at up to 2000 rpm. I have been able to travel at 35 mph for 1/2 mile or more without depressing the throttle. This occurred on level roads and the cruise control was not engaged or even on. I have been in contact with another individual, via the web, who had the same year/model truck with the same problem. This is a safety problem. If this occurred when the roads were slippery and accident would be likely. The dealer was worthless. When I contacted gm's website, I got a call back, but I'm convinced that the only purpose of the website is to deadend such complaints.
