Three problems related to brake sensor have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dealer said wheel bearing was out of tolerance causing sensor to engage anti-lock braking which resulted in longer stopping distance. Cannot replace just bearing whole hub unit $300. Dealer says right side is going as well.
: the contact stated while attempting to apply brake pressure at 20 mph the antilock brakes engaged causing an increase in stopping distance. This occurred on normal roads during normal braking without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. Upon inspection, they replaced the hub and sensor which did not correct the problem. The manufacturer was alerted.
Abs locked up and consumer was unable to stop vehicle, which caused vehicle to skid. Ts inspection revealed that abs sensor needed to be replaced. However consumer chose not to have it repaired. .
