21 problems related to accelerator pedal have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
There is a high effort at the gas pedal on when the vehicle is cold. Sometimes this effort is so great that when backing or in a parking lot, I must apply force then the vehicle lurches forward. This has been happening for a number of years since I purchased the vehicle new in October of 1999.
The ongoing problem that I am experiencing is with the accelerator pedal. After the truck has been parked for a brief period of time and only when first starting out ; I have to apply excessive pressure to make the pedal go down. It seems as if it is stuck. This can be quite unnerving when parked in close proximity to other vehicles . I have to tap it firmly and quickly so as not to maintain pressure on the accelerator and accelerate unnecessarily. This is an intermittent problem but is becoming more common as the vehicle ages . * incident date does not apply to this complaint based on the fact that it is an ongoing occurrence.
Fuel throttle hang-up since purchase in 2000. Dealership performed carbon cleaning 3 times however issue does not rectify. Must "pop" at the fuel pedal in order to get the vehicle moving thus causing a lurching forward of vehicle. No further help offered by dealership or chevy corporate but to continue to have carbon cleaning ($85/service).
The accelerator is sometimes very difficult to press down. When it finally does, it causes a sudden lurching of the vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation.
Today and everyday my throttle locks up when attempting to accelerate from a stop. I have had many close calls when trying to maneuver through traffic. I live in a very large city and it is very important to be able to go when you need to. I have nearly been hit trying to stomp on the accelerator when it doesn't respond and I am trying to move into oncoming traffic. I have also nearly ran into many objects moving, and stationary, becouse of the sudden acceleration when the throttle finally decides to let loose. Why won't gm stand behind their products and repair this? is it going to take another firestone tire type fiasco to get a recall?.
While driving 40 mph consume r applied the accelerator pedal and it became stuck. Then, consumer applied the accelerator pedal several times and vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and contacted the dealer. Mechanic determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced.
Sticking gas pedal. Throttle body problem causes gas pedal to stick. When at a stop, a lot of pressure is often required to move pedal. Pedal "unsticks" and causes vehicle to lurch forward or backward. At highway speeds, "unsticking" causes truck to accelerate at a faster rate than intended. Chevy dealer replaced throttle body once (45k miles), but problem has returned (80k miles).
The gas pedal sticks sometimes. In order to accelerate, you must press the pedal hard and then the truck takes off. There's no steady acceleration.
While applying the accelerator pedal consumer stated that he had to apply more then normal pressure to get the vehicle to move. The dealer was not notified.
Gas pedal is hard to push when taking off, causing truck to lunge forward when moving from a stop.
While driving and trying to accelerate throttle pedal will get stuck, and will stay at the same speed, causing it to be hard for consumer to stop. Dealer notified.
My 4x4 ,6. 0 liter 3/4 ton Silverado has a sticky gas pedal. The problem makes the truck leap forward and I had just averted hitting vehicles numerous times. The problem does not last for long. I have not contacted the dealer as it has 50,000 miles now.
When putting foot on gas pedal it got stuck and vehicle acellerated uncontrolleably. Dealership was aware of problem.
80% of the times that you attempt to mome from a stop the accellerator hangs up and you have to exert tremendous pressure on the accellerator pedal to break it loose. The only safe way to do this is to put the vehicle out of gear. This can be very dangerous in traffic. I believe the manufacturer should repair this defect at no cost to me even though the vehicle is out of warranty.
When applying gas consumer has to almost stand on pedal to get pedal to go down. Dealer admitted there was a problem with gas pedal sticking.
When driving at 20/25 mph vehicle will not decelerate when feet is removed from gas pedal.
Consumer called complaining about having throttle problems. While driving throttle will stick to the floor. It doesn't happened all the time, but he is afraid that may cause him to get into an accident. Manufacturer5 was not dcontacted. Dealer was contacted, and stated that GMC ha addressed the issue. But it would cost the consumer if it was not broken, and the warranty will not replace it unless broken.
Throttle sticks intermittently. Dealer has not been able to duplicate problem.
After turning engine off throttle sticks. Consumer would have to apply pursuer to disengage throttle. Please provide further information.
Gas pedal will stick and is very hard to press down on acceleration. Causes truck to spin tires and lunge forward.
Increased pedal effort from idle position, I am afraid that if I am close to something or someone I will run into it! I am always spinning the back wheels because of this problem. I believe since Chevrolet is aware of this problem by issuing a bulletin, why don't they replace for free on non warrantied vehicles.
