13 problems related to brake antilock control unit/module have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The abs have failed again. They were recalled in 2005 - 06 and the "fix" of cleaning them was obviously not the correct way of handling the problem. There has been no incidents as of now but there will be.
2001 Chevrolet Silverado 5. 3l 4+4 anti-lock brake problem , same as in canada. Truck won't stop at low speeds. Anti-lock brakes kick in and truck continues moving. Many near miss accidents, including almost running into gas station, concrete curb stop only thing that stopped me. All in one trip to gas station. Haven't driven truck since. Truck only has 34,500 miles on it. Very dangerous condition! needs fixed. Your more than welcome to see for yourself.
On my 2001 chevy Silverado my antilock brakes activated as I was coming to a stop causing me to run into the back of a parked pick up truck with its tailgate down luckily only damage was smashed turn signal and headlight/turn signal bracket.
The wheel speed sensors, rust build up between the sensor, and the mount of the sensor. At low speeds the wheel speed sensor malfunctioned while driving at 10 mph, which caused the abs to disengage, causing the system to pulsate.
Recalled anti lock brake sensor in canada ; had problem, and consumer paid $427. 07 for replacing both front sensors.
Anti-lock brakes activating while traveling at low speeds. While attempting to get gas the vehicle would not stop. As a result the consumer struck another vehicle parked at the pump refueling.
Consumer complained that two more front speed sensors had to be replaced after reporting this issue to hot line back in February, 2004 about a brake problem. Dealer was notified.
Abs module continues to run after ignition turned off. Had to pull abs 60 amp fuse to stop module from running.
When stopping and the vehicle's speed reaches 5 mph, the abs engages. When this occurs controlling the vehicle is difficult,when going straight and the vehicle is uncontrollable when turning. The dealership feels that the abs sensor which controls the abs at 5 mph may be corroded and needs to be cleaned. The abs sensor has been cleaned and the problem ceased. The consume was told that this is a cold climate problem. There are technical service bulletins issued but there are no recalls at this time.
Brakes failed at low speed (5-10 mph) and truck ran into a building.
Abs pump continued to run after vehicle shut off. Unplugged pump to stop. Required replacement of abs pump.
Per consumer abs motor will not shut off. This could result in a vehicle fire caused by overheating.
The abs unit continued to run after the vehicle was turned off, the consumer had to pull the main abs fuse to solve the problem.
