Applied parking brake on steep hill and parking brake did not hold. Took truck to mechanic and he said this was a common problem on this truck as the parking brake shoes fail even if the brake is seldom or never used.

Contact states he is a police officer that worked an accident case that was the result of brake failure. There is an NHTSA recall campaign id #05v379000 concerning the service brakes, hydraulic: anti-lock. The consumer experienced the same symptoms as indicated in the recall. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Brakes failed on two occasions. Pedal goes to floor vehicle keeps going. Once almost putting us in a lake and another hitting garage at home. Have records of brakes being repaired after first incident at gm dealer service garage, on 7-26-04 after lake incident. Vehicle is at gm garage at this time for second repair on abs brakes.

Problems began 10/04 when driving at low speeds, brakes would fail. Dealer reported no problems. Pulsating can be heard coming from brakes. Contact has pulled the abs fuse to remedy problem. Steering shaft: when making a left turn, slack is felt in the wheel, contact has the steering shaft twice. Popping and grinding is heard when turning.

Contact states: 2001, Chevrolet Silverado. Having problems with the anti-lock brakes. When driving 40-50 mph everything seems fine, but once the car comes almost to a complete stop while traveling 5-10 mph the brake fail. Happens in any road condition. The first time it happened the car was taken to the dealer, and they said it was the wheel assembly ,and fixed the brakes. Currently, , it happened again, but the car has not been taken to the dealer yet. No warnings prior to or after the failure.

The abs brakes come on when driving slow. I smashed other cars, ran stop signs, and been killed because of this brake failure.

The brakes prematurely failed to respond appropriately when applied. Consumer's vehicle almost rear ended other vehicles. Consumer was going to have the brakes diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership, but until then the cause was unknown. Chevrolet stated that this model year was not included in recall.

While driving at low speed and consumer applied the brakes they failed. Vehicle took longer to stop. Dealership inspected vehicle several times, and technician indicated that vehicle was operating as designed by manufacturer.

While pulling up to an office building, the brakes completely failed which caused the vehicle to collide with the building. (nar).

While applying the brake pedal brakes failed. The brake pedal went to the floor. Also, accelerator pedal stuck.

2001 Silverado. On going brake failures. Low speeds 0-35, and at 45 and up. Has been an on going battle since new.

While driving 5-10 mph powersteering went out, brakes as well. Brake pedal went to the floor. Vehicle was towed to dealer, ower steering pump failed, causing the brakes to fail, as well.

Submission in regards to problems experienced with 2001 Chevrolet Silverado after a safety recall; seeking reimbursement for repairs. When the brakes failed, the consumer slid across a stop sign and caused an accident. The consumer's husband had 2 minor accidents due to the brakes failing. The consumer believed the accidents were due to the brakes locking up at low speeds.
