1 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Purchased the used vehicle originally at 42000 miles. Have taken impeccable care of it. Acual dates of incidents are unknown due to the fact most have been ongoing. Brakes failed due to abs. Fixed twice by gm under the safety recall. Both fixes were bandaids (dealer cleaned and applied a "special" grease twice, they never replaced the abs sensors. Third fix I paid out of pocket to replace the sensors, and since then the abs has been ok. Brakes failed due to rust and corrosion (all lines and 2 calipers had to be replaced. Fuel pump failed, fuel lines failed due to excessive corrosion, fuel tank straps failed due to excessive rust and corrosion. Slow leaks in 3 of 4 wheels due to excessive rust and corrosion in the rims.

2 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2008

Tl- the contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 10 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal when the vehicle exhibited an abnormal humming sound and began to pull to the right. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the abs sensors would have to be cleaned. In addition, the mechanic suggested the abs fuse be disconnected to permanently prevent the failure but the abs function would no longer be operable. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) and contacted the manufacturer who then advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. Kmj.

At slow speeds the anti-lock brake kick in and causes me to loose control and making stopping distances longer. To correct the problem the wheel bearings and anti-lock sensors had to be removed and cleaned. Nhtsa has a recall # for this problem (05v379000) but the recall does not cover the state of minnesota.

6 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2005

On September 26, 2005 the abs system locked on and the brakes pulsated when going under 10 mph. When slowing down the consumer had to increase the stopping distance, and one could hear the abs brakes kicking in. This happened every time while driving the vehicle and was getting worse. The consumer contacted the dealer, and they said that there was a recall but this vehicle was not included in the recall. The consumer had an appointment for October 12, 2005 for them to check the brakes because the consumer could not drive the vehicle like this. The consumer had an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle, and they determined that the sensors on the brakes rusted from the salt on the highways. (11/23/05).

7 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2005

As an owner of a Silverado I was glad to hear about the recall due to failure of the abs system. However it was a let down to learn wisconsin trucks are not included. I have already replaced half of the sensors and need to replace the rest. I feel my truck is unsafe because of the brakes not responding as quickly as needed. I will have to replace the rotors this fall because they have rusted through. The dealer says it's because I park it outside. This has been one of the most disappointing vehicles I have ever owned.

8 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2005

My 2001 Silverado sat unused for about one month. After that every time I would come to a stop the anti-lock brakes would engage at about five miles an hour. This caused me to almost have more then couple of miner crashes. The light for the anti-lock brakes did not come on at any time to indicate a problem until I pulled the fuse out to prevent the brakes from not stopping the truck. I took the truck in to a shop and had them look at the anti-lock brake system. They found rust around the sensors on the front two wheels pulled the sensors off and cleaned the rust off put the sensors back on. I have not had a problem with the anti-lock brakes going off since.

9 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The front brake anti lock sensors are sensing that the wheels are locked when braking at about 5 mph or less. If slowing down and coming to a stop sign the sensors misread the wheel. The relay goes off and cannot stop within a reasonable stopping distance. He contacted the dealer and they told him there was a service bulletin on this issue, and they would take the sensors out and clean them. This will cost a $300 and will be a temporary fix. This does not occur all time it is only happens once in a while.

10 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2005

While pulling in to park, the abs activated and consumer crashed into the side of a building. The brake pedal eventually went to the floor but was making a clicking noise as if it were being activated. The road conditions were dry pavement with no debris or moisture. At slow speeds the brake pressure abs would come on lately. Consumer states that gm will pay for all the damages and believes instead of the gm dealer cleaning the sensors they should have replaced them with new ones and not some that will rust.

11 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2005

When the brakes were applied the vehicle's abs activated at about 5 mph, no matter the weather condition. When this occurred it was difficult to stop the truck because of the pulsation caused by the abs. Now this problem happens everything the brakes are applied. This incident occurs because dirt or rust obscures the wheel sensors located behind each brake rotor.

12 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2005

I have a 2001 chevy Silverado and my abs brakes are activateing at slow speeds when comeing to a compleat stop. I have 84000 miles on my truck and I've almost rear ended the person in front of me on numerous ocations. Abs system on 2001 Silverado 4x4 began coming on at low speeds with only gentle braking. Caused stopping distances to be much greater, causing overshoot of stop signs. No accident was involved. Had repaired at gm dealer, said abs sensors were corroded and had to replace ($600+ dollars). Vehicle only has 40k miles on it.

14 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2005

From November, 2004 until fixed in March, 2005 had repetitive episodes where anti-lock brakes came on at low speeds of around 7-8 mph. This led to several very near accidents on the military base I work, parking lots and on the city roads. Luckily no one was ultimately injured before the problem was figured out to be the anti-lock brake system sensors. They were fixed by dealer at price of $598. 40. A recall was released on this problem in canada and in the us (gm recall 05068) in December, 2005. This vehicle was purchased from o'connor Chevrolet in rochester, NY in November, 2003. A claim was filed with Chevrolet (file #1-409354542) and was denied because the vehicle was not purchased by me in canada and I didn't live in canada. This vehicle was purchased from a Chevrolet dealer in new york state with a now known defect that nearly caused several accidents to me and my family and now Chevrolet will not pay for the repair stating it is not covered by the us recall. If it is the same defect in all the vehicles and the truck was purchased from a chevy dealer it should be honored. Chevy nearly killed me and my kids several time by their negligence in manufacturing and should pay for the repair needed to fix their faulty product.

15 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2005

Consumer states: when pulling out from stop light or stop sign the brakes kick in. Only happens getting ready to stop. Makes a chattering noise. The sensor is calling for the abs system when it doesn't need the abs system.

16 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2004

For no reason and at low speeds the anti lock brakes activate. Happens most of the time when brake is applied. Dealer says the sensors are dirty, had the sensors cleaned ,but problem is still there. Had one sensor replaced at advice of gm dealer, and the problem is still there (left front). Has talked to manufacturer, and is not satisfied with what they are doing. Pulled fuse to deactivate anti-lock brakes.

Contact stated the abs sensor was corroded and had to be replaced. The front brakes were pitted and rusted on the inside of the rotors. Service dealer informed consumer that all four rotors need to be replaced. Dealer said the reason for this was because the brakes were not used enough. The consumer believes the system is poorly designed.

22 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2003

While driving at any speed abs brakes system is under the impression the one of the wheels is locked up. When this occurs the abs system will release the wheels due to corrosion. This problem occurred numerous times before the consumer became concerned about it. Dealer examined the vehicle, and cleaned the sensor disc on the braking system. When the brakes were applied the vehicle began to slow down normally until the speed was around 5-10 mph. When the speed was low the abs would activate. The vehicle would slow down but not stop.

23 Brake Sensor problem
